I mean, theres so many things that are just wrong and don't flow.

I could be on the edge of cover and sometimes I can't repeatedly shoot.

Half the time when I choose a conversation choice theres an uneasy pause between when the NPC finsishes talking and when I begin.  It seems so non organic.

Whenever I go to cover thats waist high, Shephard just stand there against it instead of crouching.  I know some will say "WELL GOD!!!....do you want the game to play for you too!!!"  But the fact is anyone with a decent mental capacity would duck appropriately.  I wouldn't think about it in life why would a soldier go "O, hai, I'm getting shot...guess I should duck" >then hit the default button to duck.

Some of the conversations aren't organic either.  It's basically NPC asks a question and the different choices start off like a completely new conversation that someone started.  It's seems sooo odd.

The scale of ME1 is still there and I the RPG elements are better.  But anyone who chooses ME1 over ME2 or ME3.....I dunno....I don't even think it's a matter of opinion.  These things in ME1 are not objective.

ME2 was great. Just the movement with so much smoother. ME2 was the best.

yeah the combat does really blow but I think people enjoy the RPG side more and the combat just becomes bearable.

I don't argue that the later ME games had better controls and such, but ME1 still holds a special place in my heart, for the awe I experienced when first reaching the Citadel and similar moments... :')

I guess it comes down to whether you play an RPG for the story or for the gameplay. To me it is a no-brainer, but some people need to get their button mashing fix.

The combat was a little clunky. Didn't really have issues with the conversations thou. Still better than ME3.

I could actually get around the combat, but the conversation part of the story is soooo strange.

ME2 and ME3 both flow like a movie unless you stall when choosing your conversation choice.

The story isn't as immersive since the conversation problems I'm talking about hinder it.

Not sure how this fits into the campaign and story forum but still:
Sure, ME1 has aged and the systems are not as refined. However, for me it will always hold a special place since it was my first step into the ME universe.
The art was and still is amazing and the flow of the story is unarguably the best in the first game. ME2 feels like tv series (which is nice by itself) and ME3 has a very weird narrative flow to it. In ME1 it just seemed ... right.

Besides, SR1 >>> SR2!!! :)

EDIT: As for the conversations, that was something that didn't really exist at the time (at least in RPGs as far as I know). I couldn't name any RPG before ME2 in which conversation were not somewhat static. As a matter of fact, ME1 was already a step forward in the sense that sometimes you coul draw a gun on people or interact by grabbing them during a renegade option or something. IMO you always have to weigh a game in the context of the time it was made in. As for the lags, I recently replayed ME1 and didn't notice anything (I play on PC though)

ME1 is the greatest by thousands of Mass Relays. It isn't even a competition.

Its like comparing a retro game to current games. For example Quake II still holds a special place in my gaming history, but that doesn't mean its the best shooter ever made from a technical standpoint.

The funny thing about ME1 is that it has "manual auto dialogue". I mean, there are a lot of times when all your decisions are the same.

The 2 things that get me every time I play ME1 after having played ME2 or 3:

1. I keep thinking I need to reload, so I toss a grenade I didn't want to toss. I ALWAYS forget that "R" is set to throw a grenade in ME1, even though that's the universal reload button in every other shooter I've ever played.

2. I can't run at all when not in combat and I can only run an incredibly short distance while in combat. Shepard is a trained, battle hardened soldier. Do you expect me to believe she'd be out of breath after about 5 seconds of sprinting?

At least it's better than ME2. I'll take rehashed environments and sketchy shooting over a butchered corridor shooter with a generic storyline anyday.

I'm going through the first one again too. It's not that old, but man, it sure could use a remake.

Imagine if they took 3's graphics and mechanics and applied them to 2 and 1, then repackaged all three as a single, seamless game. Awesome.

That's strange....my ME1 experience on the 360 wasn't that buggy....never noticed delays between picking a response and Shep talking and sure as hell never had the cover issue with standing up against short cover.....if you're on PC then I don't know I just remember that there were A LOT of complaints about about the late PC port being buggy when it was finally released. It might be worth trying it on 360 instead unless you're hypersensitive to fps or start tripping over minor graphics differences....overall the gameplay should be significantly smoother than what you're describing now. Hell I'd try suggesting upgrading your PC but if you can rum ME3 then I doubt that's the issue so it's probably just a bad port...

Ya technically ME1 was poorly done to say the least. Graphical glitches galore and the clunkiest gamelay mechanics around.

It's what got us all into this wonderful series though.

Damn that ending though just makes me sad. If BW ever fixes it, I will do a playthrough of all 3 games again with joy, but until then I can't even play ME3 with my 4 other Sheps.... ugh

Combat was bearable for me. It was worth going through that once I got to experience the story. And I never really noticed the delay in dialogue. In my opinion, ME2 was the best but ME1 was a very close second.

ME1= free of EA = ^^

ME2= rpg/story sacrificed = vomit

To me ME2 is kids stuff, I personally can only see youths enjoying that game. The story is bad and the combat is mediocre.
