Exploit Weakness - adds an expected (0.52/3) * (cunning-10) bonus damage to each backstab.
Tainted Blade - adds 5 + 0.2 * (cunning-10) bonus damage.
Song of Courage - gains 3 attack (+10% of cunning modifier ), 2 Damage (+5% cunning modifier), Crit chance 3% (+10% cunning modifier).
High Armor Penetration - each point invested in Cunning will add 0.14 Armor Penetration to all attacks of the character.

Its easy ?
Strength: Allows to use "real" melee weapons instead of daggers, gives 1/2 attack and 1x damage
Dexterity: Gives 1/2 attack
Cunning: Gives Armor Penetration and, with Lethality and if higher than Strength, 1x damage (instead of Strength!)
With Dexterity fix and daggers, damage is instead 1/2 Dex, 1/2 Str or Cun.
So if you make a Strength based Rogue, you can use big swords etc and deal a lot of damage plus get high attacks. But for Strength doesnt help you with any Rogue skills, your Rogue will be screwed.
With high Dexterity, you really need the Dexterity fix and use Daggers. That will give you 1/2 damage and very good defense. But then again what do you need that one for? Use Stealth or Feign Death already, and Taunt on your Tank.
With high Cunning, your attack will be bad, but your Armor Penetration will rock, also because you'll be forced to use daggers, as will your damage (if you also have Lethality, anyway). I'm not sure, but doesnt Cunning also raise your chance for critical hits ? Also you will rock as a Rogue, of course.
My personal choice is Cunning. Brilliant Rogue FTW.
Just don't name your Cunning rogue "Lingus" like i did. But then...
Lelianna approves +25

This is especially true if you drink the potion in warden's quest. Cunning is improved even more with assassin talents also so it's your best stat.

since cunning gives strength with a talent, you only need dex for the talents prereq, strength for armour, then everything else dumped unto cunning

Ah, haven't done Warden's Keep yet. Are those talents worth it for each class?
The PoB talents are different for each class. I only tried the Power of Blood talents for the Rogue. It's more useful for the CUN rogue, IMO.
Dark Passage - Tapping into the power of tainted blood makes the rogue more nimble,
able to move more quickly while using Stealth and more likely to dodge
a physical attack.
Best for CUN Rogue's survivability.
Tainted Blade - The rogue's blood gushes forth, coating the edges of weapons with a
deadly taint. The character gains a bonus to damage determined by the
cunning attribute, but suffers continuously depleting health in return.
(All enemies hit by the player's weapon receive a damage over time
effect)
This one deals uber damage using the CUN modifier. The depleting health is not as bad as you think it is.

I went minimal dexterity to qualify for my skills and went all out
Cunning. My hit rate by end game was still hovering around 92-95% at
hard difficulty.
How is that even possible? One of my main dudes is a mage and has 95% hitrate and well, mages pretty much always hit.

For Archery and Lelianna i get Cunning to 40 and out the rest into Dex. This gives great attack(hit) from the extra dex and a good cunning score.
From testing 40 Cun to 70 Cun the difference of 30 cun with song of courage was only around 1.5dmg, 3%crit but 13 or so attack down from the 40 cunning/higher dex build.
Lethality is a must for archers.
DW rogues tho have more abilities that gain from cunning, especially if you go assasin. So you will prolly want more cunning than dex on a DW, as you should get 20 attack from flanking. Tho im still playing with my DW rogue atm.

Ehhh, I've tried those high cunning Archer builds and I can't even hit a barndoor. Theres something horribly depressing about priming an Arrow of Slaying with that type of build because it takes like 5 seconds to shoot the arrow, you lose nearly all your stamina, incur a temporary stamina penalty and half the time the arrow misses anyway.I went minimal dexterity to qualify for my skills and went all out

I think he wasn't talking about ranged
For ranged rogues i wouldn't skimp on dex too much, unless you collect every atk-buff there is maybe.

Maybe +2 Dex and +1 Cunning generally for each level?
