I tried making a lightsaber, problem is the game can't support the glow, so it ended up looking like a pole.
I wonder is you could create a custom rune that would give the glow. Or just a crust.

I think that is how you would do it, why stop at items why not a total Dragon Age to STWKOTOR MOD

You can't.
Even if you use Flaming Weapons spell or Frost Weapons spell in-game, the custom weapon will not light up. Don't know what must be done, yet. Even so if it does work, it'll look weird, coz the lightsaber's blade is pure white in the middle and only glows of colour at the edges. I can get the effect in the 3D software but I don't think there's a way to get it in-game.

I'd be careful saying things like "You can't" or "impossible."cw8 wrote...

It may not be easy or obvious, but there very well may be a way. The templar spirit in The Fade, during the Harrowing, has a glowing sword that comes close to what may be desired. There are plenty of visual effects possibilities. We just need to figure out how they all work.

Cool, if someone figures it out, I'll be more than happy to know how to implement it. Programming and scripting are not my strong points however, I only do 3D modelling, so I still have to rely on people for the solution.

It uses a basic diffuse map, a specular map, then a luminance map and a glow map and generated through the software itself.

It's not like the effect is hard to mimic in photoshop.

Like I said, if you give it an emissive map, it will glow like that, just without the halo. I assume this is possible since it looks like that's how the dragon armor glows red.
So I just add the emissive sentence into the .mao file? Or do I need a seperate bitmap for emissive for the effect?

Wouldn't it just be easier to texture the blade model. that's all Kotor did really. (Might have even been a sprite rather than a 3d model of the blade)
KOTOR used flat planes for their blades. Four of them, arranged in an asterisk pattern:

The planes get scaled to extend and retract the blade.
The textures are pretty simple, basically using an alpha to hide the unwanted parts of the planes:

(I'm using some old images here from my KOTOR modding - that pic is two blade textures side-by-side)

Not exactly the lightsaber glow, but it's a start.

as for the glow, have you considered multiple shades of said color to acquire the glow?
