I know patching a game is usually easy thanks to the automatic game detection in a lot of .exe files used to patch. Unfortunately in my case it complicates things. I have two hard drives and I installed DAO on my second (D) (and not primary) hard drive ©. When I try to patch the game it tells me it doesn't exist. I have tried copying and pasting the patch into many folders in hard drive (D) and even © and installing it from there but it still cannot find it. Downloading DLC has worked find but patching the game is another story. Advice anyone? Thanks. :)

Your situation is exactly the same as mine, point for point, and I've been searching for a way to maybe manually apply the patch somehow. I am unfortunately, not savvy enough to even begin to figure out how this might work.

My DOA is on a different drive to my system, and I'm yet to have issues installing the patch. But it did take 4 hours to install the game and fix the installation problems..... :)

Try running the patch as Administrator (as the registry key below is from the PC, not the user).

If you run "DAOriginsConfig.exe", and select 'Game' on the left. Does it show version numbers for all 4 components and the CD key under product keys ?? I would imagine these values exist ok, or you would probably have trouble running the game.

If you know much about the windows registry, I've had a good serach throguh mine and there is only one location that has the path to DAO. Its stored under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE\\Wow6432Node\\Bioware\\Dragon Age. There is a string called 'Path' that has the path to DAO. Which in my case is 'D:\\Dragon Age'. This could be one method the patch uses to find the game.

to manually patch follow these easy steps:

google dragon age patch 1.02

download it from one of the many free links links

run the downloaded .exe file

it will find and patch your game, even if on USB drive

Many thanks, this solved the problem.

My situation is slightly different from the OP now that I've re-read it.  I'd had the game on my second HDD to avoid putting anything other than the OS on my SSD, but last week, that HDD croaked.
So I RMA'd and got a new one, and re-installed everything onto it appropriately, but it occurred to me that the previous installation was originally on the C drive (SSD), then moved to the D drive, and then instantly obliterated and not uninstalled when the drive died, as I had to modify the registry key for windows to find the content updater as well, when I finally re-installed the game.  This was an easy fix, I had attempted it earlier, but was unable to find the path for the game in the registry, as I know enough to make a minor change here and there and to search, but not savvy enough to know how to look for something if it doesn't reside where I'd guessed.

In short, thanks for the assistance, that solved my problem.
