With that in mind, I noticed the intention is to fold the story content that was to be in the DA2 DLC Exalted March into what we'll call, uh, Wyvern Era 3.
I'm sure many are disappointed that this DLC won't be released and Hawke's story (and most of the companions) remain stuck in a kind of narrative limbo, but hopefully the extra time given to Wyvern Era 3 is worth the lack of closure. Ideally I'd have loved a meaty content pack to end Hawke's adventure (and also tie up the Sebastian plotline, if that was the intention) but zots are scarce and it's probably even a better choice to spend them on content that more can use.
What I'm wondering is: how is Exalted March going to be neatly subsumed into another game in any great detail if the characters, setting and story are going to be totally different? If WE3 is set more towards 'somewhere French', but Exalted March dealt primarily with (as far as the addled fanbase knows) Kirkwall, Starkhaven and another few Marches towns (I vaguely remember E(a?)s****ch [EDIT: Overzealous spam filter, East-watch] from those T-shirts?), it's hard to see how we'll see (much less participate in) these events as the protagonist of WE3, unless a conveniently-appearing Kirkwall envoy sums up the events of the exalted march in a conversation or two.
There's an argument to be made for a more-or-less clean break in every game in terms of setting and protagonist (and I sympathise with what some devs said about DA2 not referencing too much of the previous game because the coincidental cameos were verging on the ridiculous), but when Hawke and the Warden are counted the list of whereabouts-unknown-protagonists is two for two, and it'd be nice to get a proper explanation about Kirkwall's fate without it being a throwaway reference.
I realise devs can only talk in generalities (and of course Wyvern Era 3 is, uh, totally not being made), but some clarity on just how in-depth any future projects will tie back into DA2 would be appreciated. As much antipathy towards Hawke as there is on the internets, I think the shattering consequences of an actual Chantry Exalted March do deserve some sort of narrative attention, particularly when they involved (as far as we know) quite a few of the cities of the Free Marches, and most of the themes we encountered in DA2's plot.
