Thx again all for your encouragement, and no worries, if i let comments discourage me I'd have stopped modding in 2005 :D

For a very nostalgic laugh, here's the first comment on my first vault submission ever (Plasma Blades v1.0) :

Posted by Anonymous ( 203.173.xxx.xxx ) at 2005-03-28 22:07:00
what, you think you can just do a retexture of the bioware blades and think your leet? ack.
Make some new models and learn to texture bro.
this sucks lama +blocked+.

and some kind and encouraging words by...

Nice work on these. While I generally frown on custom content that overrides the standard items (as your blades do), these were worth the time for me to rework in my own personal hak to make them compatible with the game and with the CEP.

I've been looking for sword blades that seem to glow on their own without one of the standard "elemental" effects.

Keep up the great work.

:)

Deja-Vu :D

<cheerfully doling out coppers...>

Sinful M: I'll be working pretty hard to get the Builder's Source files up by this weekend. can't promise more than that as there's a *lot* of stuff here :-)

I like that =)

Interesting discussion about textures. My thoughts - in general I have Cestus stick to provided textures to reduce redundant resources. For Red Mercy, only the damascus and maker's mark textures are custom. Most of the textures used are the w_metal_tex and the various crystal textures. In fact, the grip is plc_x0ice (very nice ice ;-). They work and are already in game.

OTOH, I don't have any problem at all looking around and creating new textures. For Baba Yaga's Hut, I used a lot of default content, but I wanted to tweak some of it and ended up creating a texture atlas (ala OTR).

That leather grip texture of Big C's is great :-) I'll be using that, I'm thinking.
Likewise, I am all *over* TAD's texture on the Vault! Coolness!

I think the texture section of the Vault is depressingly under-valued. Please upload cool, original textures :-) <more! more!>

Reforged: Texture Pack for Model Makers

For those interested.  Smaller, but good quality textures.  These are the ones that I use in my Reforged weapons.

Why did you have to go and post an image of Ignus? Now you've got me wanting him as a creature for my personal server.

As for your weapon work; those are looking very good, and the added texture work really makes them stand out. Great job.

Maybe.  Just need to find the time.  Lots of "real life" stuff going on and lots of NWN things higher on my to-do list.

First, this thread is made of pure awesomium.  I finally had enough time to look over everything and it's just amazing.  I can't say for sure but I think when this pack hits the Vault it'll wind up being up in the top five most expansive weapon haks ever released.  Maybe even the biggest, I dunno.  Especially in the pound-for-pound "new" content deptartment and variety.

Second, having spent so much time diving though old Vault submissions, reading old forum posts in the Omnibus to learn how to do this or that, etc., it's easy to develop a certain sentimentality and nostalgia about the so-called "heyday" of Neverwinter custom content, presumably some debatable number of years ago.  I'm also a person prone to nostalgia, anyway.  It's easy to get bit.

But then I look at threads like this and they blow me away, reinvigorate me.  Just amazing stuff, guys and gals.  These CC challenges are responsible for the generation of more new, unique custom content than anything else in NWN's history.

And that realization lead me to another: The heyday of Neverwinter Nights custom content creation...it's not some time between 2002 and 2004 or whenever.  It's NOW!  It's right-freaking-now!  And that is a very pleasing thought.

:)

I had a look at the placeables that the vault has to offer and it seemed to me that retextures of old placesables plus placeables taken from tilesets and placeables taken from other games (mainly NWN2) make at least 80% of all the placeables.
There are more new placeables in the CCC than in the whole CEP.

This is not the case for armour and the like, but there are really very, very few new placeables that have been made before the CCC.
I know there are hundreds and hundreds of placeables taken from other games, but I don't count them as new. I know how easy it is to convert placeables from NWN2. There's not much work involved.

Now if only it could convince builders that including custom content isn't a sin for which their heart will be plucked from them by a vulture every day for a thousand years, it really could be a heyday of NWN custom content.

How awesome it'd be to log onto a server and instantly be greeted by some of this CCC content.

This part I completely agree with.  The CCC has enough interesting things I started a seperate hak for my mod just for items taken from the monthly challenges.
Most of all, it's the ease which someone can pick specific parts of each months offerings to add just what's wanted that appealed to me.  Admittedly, it still means 2da merges, but that's a minor thing for the benefits.

I've been getting positive responses from some of my players about the content I've pilfered from the CCC along with the other good stuff I've found on the vault. But I have been disciplined so far doling out just a little at a time so as not to spoil all the presents.

I think the issue for many builders however is that in multiplayer you want to get the CC nailed down and stable before you start building. That is how I think about it anyway. I'm just too busy week to week trying to get the module ready for the next event to pour over more community content.

At some point, I'll need to get onto Version 2 of the Arnheim HAKs and include the weapons from this challenge. Perhaps when Q1.5 rolls out. :)

<carefully placing one more block...>

I'm really liking FB's idea of a CCC hak, where that is the only hak that needs to be toyed with for new content - rather like the purpose of the patch hak.

Still doesn't get the content blueprinted and placed, but is such a nifty idea I just gotta copycat!

I used to try to avoid updating the hak content for my PW, doing any updates only every 6 months or so. Then I just decided that I want to add things on my schedule and restructured my haks so that the list includes an "updates" hak. I dump new content into the updates hak whenever I want, and players that don't feel like updating right away can still play...just without being able to see the new stuff. For instance, today I'm uploading a new copy of the file with a set of placeables that will get used in an in-game event next week sometime. :)

Now days, I update content anywhere from once a month to once a week, depending on how much NWN time real life lets me grab.

I do have a HAK like that, but I'm uncomfortable with the thought that players would have different content on their hard drives than I built with.

That said... I wish I had the amount of time for NWN that you seem to. I am jealous of how productive you have been.

So true.  And if you fall out of practice, expect to do double duty on the other two until you shake the rust off.

It's a .7z file (CCC_201205_Source_v0.7z), a type of file compression like zip or rar. (Download at www.7-zip.org)

A very rough idea atm, but how about elemental monk gloves/bracers?

Posted Image

As a test, took normal hand models and linked them to Weapon Emitters.

With a touch of scripting, one could make more visual versions of Burning Hands/Chill Touch...

Did you ever release these, Carcerian? I've got a vengeful soul who needs burning hands...
