I don't know about that, sometimes it's cool to see an avatar with your face on it laying waste to the hordes of evil, you know... slinging about the powers of the elements or cleaving apart enemies with battleaxes. And then I wink at the camera.
Okay, I love the way that was put. I highly suspected that was the case for most people but I still don't connect to that myself..for me it's just fun to BE as different as you can, y'know?

In the godfather game I did make a cahracter that really looked exactly(!!) like me at the time. That was quite fun to play actually but since then I've gained some beer-belly-weight and I don't want to see this in a game

I make none of my characters look like me. I think people play games because they're fun. They're fun because you can do things you normally can't do. You can cast spells. You can kill people that need it. And you can look however and be who/whatever the hell you want. At every opportunity I play the different gender/race/etc. Why would you want to be yourself, like you already are in real life? Talk about pointless/boring!
hrm actually I think the opposite is the case. There is something escapistic about seeing oneself in a different world. The character that looks like the player can still do things the player cannot after all....

"hrm actually I think the opposite is the case." - Yes, for most. As I already said in a previous post that's how I personally feel about it, I prefer to make so many changes I get lost in the difference rather than bringing some of this into some of that - don't worry I'm already well aware I'm not like mostmrjazzman wrote...

I agree, in games, ppl can do and be everything they like, be handsome/pretty, be magical/strong, that's why we (I) play games, to be a lot cooler than ourselves in real life
