I dunno. The last time MP DLC was leaked, it turned out to be right so...

I dunno.

This.

The "Pheonix" class is most likely Prothean. I wouldn't mind having them in multiplayer, but... would get the Particle Rifle for multiplayer with this DLC, too? I love that gun.

They would need to balance it in some way, probably have it take normal thermal clips instead of the regenerating ammo.

Of course it'll be "free", because it's not really free. They know damn well that as soon as they drop that pack in, people will go buy a bunch of Bioware Points and go nuts trying to unlock the new stuff with Spectre Packs.

We have a winner.

If they release DLC as paid, they'll recieve a lot of scrutiny, as they are essentially making you pay to make you pay to get the items, or if that blew right over you:

Buy DLC -> Buy packs -> possibly recieve the content you paid for originally.

Not many people will buy the DLC, and of those, less will buy packs using actual money, and so the profit they recieve will be less.

As such, providing it for free will drastically increase the amount they'd recieve, as more people will buy the packs to recieve the items, and overall, people spend a fair bit more than 800 on these items. Think about it: What will pay off more for them? A medium-sized one-time only payment, or an unlimited number of smaller payments?

So BW does not earn any money with the MP on PS3? Would not bet on a longe lifespan for it ...

Out of principle if they released it as a payed DLC, then all the stuff would have to be unlocked already, to avoid the controversy of double-paying. If they release it for free, they can get away with putting them in the packs with everything else.

The packs stopped being available for real cash right around the time it was announced we could be part of the most recent Operation.
My luck is horrible, so, I don't have the other species unlocked, or weapons other than the starter ones.
The randomness of how things are unlocked is my only complaint, so far, in MP.  Otherwise, I surprisingly enjoy it.  A lot.   I however, won't spend real money on new maps, and a random chance at weapons (that I most likely won't ever get).  With my bad luck at chance, I'm just playing MP long enough to get the 5K kill trophy.  It's all I have left for platinum and I'll go back to TOR.  Which I enjoy a lot (though, I'm just playing it for the storyline of the various classes, beyond that, I won't stick around).

Well, they should be concerned, even if minorly.  We are fans of their games too.  Even if we are a small population.   But to be fair, I got tired of my 360 having issues, so I rebought ME2 and ME3 for my PS3.

Lets say you have to pay for the next DLC.

Maps -
After a few rounds of FW Geth farming you decide to try the new map in Silver (see what I  did there?) however 2 out of the 3 people haven't purchased the dlc so you can't play. What to do?
Kick the 2 out & wait patiently for others to join? Basically causes a divide.
Every time you want to play new map you have to select the new map & join a lobby or create new. With random it will just avoid if no one has the map in the lobby. Is the multiplayer system even smart enough to do that?

Also the amount of dlc purchasers is going to be low, how many will be online actually playing the new maps? Sure at first it will be busy (ish) but eventually they will play other maps &  do other things so the numbers will drop. Also if the maps are not very good, even lower numbers.

Characters/weapons -

No issues here except jealousy, however with the current unlock system most if not all will be pretty pissed if they have to end up spending 1 mil + credits to unlock characters like usual. What to do?
Special packs for dlc owners that have very high chance of dlc unlocks? I guess but as bioware are constantly screwing up packs, I have no faith in them.

So recap - maps won't be sold.

Characters/weapons could be sold but will have to be a low price. Is it worth it when they have to create a new pack (which will cause issues no doubt) which is the only way I can see it work.

They aren't going to charge for DLC because they don't have the player base to accommodate the split it would cause. In terms of the PS3, they will either release it for free and shrug their shoulders as they keep making money off of packs on the PC and 360, work out the real money purchasing issues, or will not release it at all.

The PS3 thing is a bug, they've said that somewhere around here. I imagine they'll fix it very soon, since it directly affects their bottom line.

They will probably not charge for DLC because of the mess that Origin is and all the problems it has.

Kinda funny that you imply that people make up examples for NOT having protheans....since you have to make up examples for the prothean to make sense... its already canon that protheans are extinct...its not canon that there are a bunch of them  running around with N7 squads.. so technically you have to make up stuff to put them in the game...not for keeping them out..

Just sayin :P

I found it a quite ex kring image, it took me 1 minute and 24 seconds to Google it and paste it here.

If dark channel and slam are in the MP files and the fact cloning etc. Is possible with 1 DNA fragment from javik due to the very extensive research on protheans its quite easy to do.

As well lore tells us there are many cryo sleep bunkers like javik's one so there is a big chance there are alive ones out there.

Just sayin.

It's one thing to preserve one prothean for 50k years, but an entire army of them? Yeah, no. The bunker on Ilos (which was meant to endure a long time) barely held out for a few centuries, and even then it lost more than 90% of it's inhabitants) The bunker on Eden Prime was designed to hold an army for a few hundred years, until the Reapers are gone, but not for 50k years. And other than Javik, we don't have any prothean DNA, and it's less than likely he'd allow anyone to make clones of him.

Add to that the fact that BioWare already had their fair share of asspulls in the game and that adding yet another one would just end up causing more trouble than it's worth, and protheans in multiplayer are suddenly (not really, lol) not so likely at all.

But trying to explain this to you is like talking to a wall.

I'm glad to see people discussing this like it's a possibility. I don't understand approaching this like if /you/ had the free time you'd write an article based on misinformation and a fake EA contact. Not to dismiss the possibility - but approaching it like the most likely explanation is it's not real is just pessimistic and depressing.

Well anyways, regardless of your negative or positive view of BW - they want you to like their babies, so I'm inclined to accept the possibility.

Given I'm not filtering through 40 pages of ****ing and arguing, I /am/ very curious about "Phoenix". I doubt it's Jean Gray. Maybe though.

Its called collector DNA samples, as you know salarians and asari have been researching their DNA tissues, and as we all know collectors are prothean reaper husks so à part of THE DNA must still be there.
