There is also a "Mitochondrial Eve" who lived about 200,000 years ago - and all humans (from all, without being unfair, "major" ethnic races) can trace a lineage back to this single female ancestor.

http://science.howst...le-ancestor.htm

Don't worry, it isn't religion disguised as science - just a interesting thing I thought I'd throw in.

In the context of the game, the bible itself has been seriously debunked as a myth. I guess that the sudden discovery of alien races who are not only more developed than us and could fairly easily destroy us: proving we are not the most important thing in the universe after all, but also the fact that they don't have religious beliefs that could coincide with ours would ultimately destroy the notion that religious instruction came from an all powerful God who created the universe and everything in it. Otherwise, wouldnt they also have the same beliefs?
I think the whole discovery of us being "uplifted" to small degrees by the Protheans would shake pretty much anyones faith too.

Its why Ashley's belief was made enough of a deal that she had to mention it after you gained some of her trust. Her language implies that very few people continue to believe in god, even that it is potentially looked down upon.

I can't help myself: notice there is no religion in ME? Notice how humans tend to get on well with each other? there's no racism between them anymore? Yeah, me too ;)

I don't see why. If you believe that there is a God and he set everything, and I do mean everything in motion, then he set that in motion, too. It all came from somewhere basically.

And if you think that religion causes racism, you're barking up the wrong tree.

Not at all, but it sure as hell doesn't help it.

But if is all powerful and did indeed "set everything in motion", then why would the Turians not believe in him/her/it? or the Krogan? or Asari? he seems fairly insistent on praise in our abrahamic religions, why make an exception for the other races? Would they not get a "divine revelation" too?

Maybe they did but not in the same way.  Plus this is a fictional story in a fictional universe so why worry about it.  Look at it this way Tolken is a Christian, but his universe says nothing about Christ, now there are a rare few who are offended by this, but Tolkens idea was to get across many of the same themes in his religion without using allegory.  What's to be offended.

Put it this way - What reason is there for any advanced species to have developed or kept their religions? You can argue that it's all just because of the Protheans, but even so, it doesn't excuse the level of faith at evidence even after 50,000 years in so many races. Why do so many species feel such a need to believe in something?

They are called 'spiritual needs'.

They are just as important as food, shelter, medicine, and companionship.

She never mentions Christ, or any other identifiers of any particular denomination or religion. Only a belief in God and the afterlife.

I consider her a deist.

Though I just recently noticed she calls the Temple of Athame a church at one point.

It was during a conversation with Mordin on the Normandy after you retrieved Eve from Sur'kesh.  When Shepard hears Mordin call her that name, he says, "Eve?"  To which Mordin replies that since they were on a human vessel, he felt it was appropriate to give her a name from human mythology.  So in other words, he explicitly refers to Judaism, Christianity and Islam as mythologies, since Eve is a prominent figure in all three religions.

It is Mythology, what's your point? Why should this upset anyone? If he mentioned Thor god of thunder, would anyone be offended?

No.

Not really, it's just considered a big deal to say religion is a myth. The truth hurts and people somehow convert this into thinking athiests are "harsh" or "outspoken".

If I said the sky is blue, people wouldn't call me outspoken on the sky being blue.

If I said invisible unicorns are a myth, people wouldn't call me outspoken on that either.

I would.

Look around you.
How many frost giants do you see?
None, because Thor vanquished them for you.

And what do you do with the free time that you now get to enjoy because you don't need to fend off frost giants every evening? You mock him on the BSN...

Shame on you, Elmo.
Shame on you.

The only thing that bugs me about this is that Wrex still calls her Eve even after she reveals her actual name. He's making babies with her, he shouldn't be using Mordin's substitute.

ME is not a religious experience. It is not even spiritual/metaphysical one - besides that ending thingy. So why would anyone who plays ME games should be offended by this?
P.S
Now i understand why Mordin died in my ME3 play through. It is not because he knew what the ending would be and did not want to live to see it,as i previously assumed. He was smitted as a sinner he was!

That should be a lesson for anyone who names Krogan an Eve and then calls it all a mythology! You would be either blown to bits in fiery explosion or shot in the back by the Shepard.
P.P.S
Those Mordin's that survived despite their sins are statistically irrelevant and hereby are declared non-existing.

Maybe it's just me but I swear on Earth he did call Eve by her real name, or is there another time that is this brought up where he didn't?

No it doesn't bother me, and I'm a Christian.   It doesn't bother me because we already call Ancient Greek and Roman religions Mythology, and the other races have no reason to think that human religion isn't mythical.  Many humans probably find the Asari goddess or the Hanar religion mythical too.

More like "As if we need another reason to divide people on a controversial subject when people are already divided on another."

I have friends of different faiths and spiritual backgrounds, and it's opened me up to accepting people have different beliefs than I do.  We're all just trying to understand the meaning of life, we just do it in different ways.  I'm not going to bash someone because they see things differently than I do, including Atheists, but anyone who bashes me, including other Christians who don't believe what I do (I'm more spiritual), offend me more than someone saying that they don't believe what I do.

I don't have a problem as long as people don't insult what I believe, and I expect people to respect that the same way I respect their beliefs.

Not true. Cerberus assassinated the pope, true story- it's mentioned in a Shadow Broker dossier:

Pope Clement XVI assassinated via rosary beads coated with sodium nonacetate and dimethyl sulfoxide. Death attributed to age and heart failure. Replacement, Pope Leo XIV, has eschatological beliefs in-line with militarizing humanity; forgiving attitude to salarians re: genophage proves useful for strategic alliances against turians.

Why not if she adopted the designation? She makes it pretty clear that she's a krogan shaman and as such has given up her true name for all practical intents and purposes. How dare Wrex respect the beliefs of their people and use a designation other than her true designation which would be taboo? What should be call her? Woman?
