Is there any way to make him not run away to his death? It's killing me here! I think I got my elf on my last playthrough to get him to go to the Chantry, but I can't remember. Any help?
Generally I ask who his mother is? And then make sure to ask about his father. Then I ask him to come with me to find his mother. He refuses and I tell him to go to the chantry and they'll take care of him. His response is he'll go there if he can't find his mother. After taking care of the bandits for the chantry you get a quest to find his mother.

I end up giving him a silver to buy himself some food...
Me too. OMG he is adorable when he goes "WOW!!! A WHOLE SILVER!!!".
Anyway I don't think he dies, as was said they look for a keepsake for the boy to have, he just ninjas off somewhere.

I assumed that no matter what he runs off and finds his way to the Chantry, since you can get a Chanter Board quest to find a keepsake of his mothers.

That kid is always there, he's someone else.Cuiva wrote...
If you zone after this conversation and walk by the chantry board, you'll notice a boy standing next to the quest-hand-in-fella. I assume that is him? I never really looked real close, but it looks like him...
I always tell this kid his mother's dead. No point sparing him the truth.

There is a pc mod where you can kill him if you really want, therefore sparing him from death at the hands of bandits.

Chantry or not the kid'll be slaughtered by the darkspawn when they destroy Lothering, so... you know... you can take comfort in that I suppose.
I think by the time the darkspawn destroy it the people have fled. When you get there it looks like everyone is packing up and getting ready to head on out.

"Yes, she's over there somewhere"
*kid wanders off*
*Run into the kid later*
"Have you seen my mother?
"Yes, she's over there somewhere"
"You're lying! You're a bad man! I'm not listening to you!"
