If you're playing on Easy/Narrative mode, damage doesnt really matter

even the weakest weapons do incredible amounts of damage.

I agree that the PR isn't quite what the Mattock was in ME2. Yes, the PR is still a cheeze gun (like a can of spray-cheese, if you will), but it's awkward to use. IMO the PR is best kept as a Squaddie gun, since the AI can consistently hit things with the full beam. That said, Explosive ammo is probably a must have to get the most out of it.

Overall, the PR is probably more like the ME2 Incisor.

I dunno about this. The ME2 Incisor was a squddie weapon because it perfectly made headshots while its major weakness - ammo supply - was a non-issue.

For the PR I really don't understand why people say the PR is awkward to use. I've never had an issue keeping it on target and its accuracy is far better than any other full-auto weapon in the game, and its unlimited ammo make it an excellent weapon for Shep.

Explosive ammo doesn't so much boost its effectiveness but takes it dangerously close to 'OMFG OP BROKEN' levels :P

The Particle Rifle is annoying to use when it comes to enemies who tend to move or run sideways. Getting 'ahead' of their movement is less than simple. Once they stop moving and go to cover, the Particle Rifle (particularly with Armor Piercing) is nasty.

It's all a matter of preference.

This is all that really matters.  Test out as many guns as want and use whatever you like the most.  Or change weapons every mission to mix it up.  Again, whatever your personal preference is, that is what you should use.  But I'll throw in my support for the Revenant, oh how I love that gun.

I find myself using the M-96 Mattock Heavy Rifle and the M-13 Raptor Sniper Rifle a lot course I tend to switch to the Javelin once I get it

Mattock is perfect for keeping me from wasting ammo and the Raptor's punch isn't as strong as some of the weapons but it's quick firing helps if you don't have the preorder weapons.

I dunno, I didn't see this as any different to any other full-auto weapon. In fact this was one of the things I liked about it - if enemies evaded the beam for too long then it would just crank up to Death Star mode and it would only take a moment to melt even tougher troops like Centurions - I just have to wave it around until it I strike an enemy and it'll stagger them.

That said, Incinerator has a point - in any game with an arsenal and levels as wide and as varied as this, preference does play a big part. My modded weight-agnostic Adept carries five guns and every single slot has required a fair amount of thought to fill, since there's at least two per slot that I really like.

seems a bit redundant as a loadout, the only difference is some of the dmg and the mods you slap on them, but functionally they are pretty much the same thing (mattock and raptor)

True but in a new game the rest is just to heavy to have a mattock, handgun, and a heavy sniper rifle

I use the Mattock all the time, every time. The reason is the sound of it firing. That heavy shot just... gets me all excited :)

gonna be honest here if you want the best semi auto AR in single player use the Chakram Launcher

it does a crazy amount of damage, and it can be charged up in a similar fashion to the geth shotgun...seriously 1 charged shot takes out a turret...

it's very similar to using the other semi auto rifles...

if you don't have it then download the KoA: Reckoning demo and play it till the end (will take a lil over a hour) and you'll be awarded it for doing so...so easy to get and totally worth it...

Chakram launcher isn't hitscan and doesn't get a headshot bonus though.

And more damning is the fact that it isn't a real assault rifle. :)

Well if you dont have Prothean DLC - all assault rifles suck IMO, exept maybe the Falcon.Way better drop it at all and get a decent rapid-fire sniper rifle (Raptor or Valiant) or a shotgun. As for ARs - The Avenger is in fact the most balanced choice IMO, since its light, and can be fired a on full auto. Mattiock weights a ton, and (if you want compareble DPS) - is pretty tiresome click-click-click weapon. Though particle rifle is simply the best AR in game, with DPS in charged outclassing even Saber, and weight less then Avenger.

Anybody found a use for the Argus yet? I reduced its weight to be identical to the Mattock yet I still find it to be a terrible weapon. Its complete lack of accuracy even at medium range makes the gun unbearable to use IMO.

The particle rifle weighs as much as the Saber.

Strange, when I tried to equip saber on my adept instead of PR - recharge dropped in deep red, and with it its about +70%. Maybe it was a glitch, then.

I must have imagined it when I beat the game with the Vindicator or the Revenant. :)

I like the Vindicator the most out of the actual AR's. It is light, accurate if you know how to fire it, and does decent damage. And you can take down armored enemies relatively quickly if you use AR Piercing (which you should on most of them).

I'm fairly certain the Particle Rifle weighs more than an Avenger. I am not sure if it is equal to the Saber (which is Revenant weight), but it is heavier than an Avenger to my recollection.

As for the cooldown bonus, that is relative to your weight capacity. If you have low weight capacity, like on an Adept, the swings for an amount of weight are more drastic.

Its definitely a glitch, the Particle Rifle weighs as much as the Revenant.

Having said that, it's still the best full-auto AR, even with it's weight. Godly charged DPS + 100% accuracy + zero recoil + self-regenerating ammo = a truly mighty option.

I'd argue that things like the (pre-nerfed) Falcon or Saber are probably equivalent in performance but simply aren't real assault rifles - they don't really cover an AR's role. Personally I don't see the point in either as you have powers for explosions and there's about half a dozen options across the Heavy Pistol and Sniper Rifle slots that do the Saber's job much better.

Nothing in the game comes close to offering the PR's performance as a full-auto main weapon except for stuff like the Spitfire. It's only real weakness if short range.
