'Decency' on the boards would rise by an order of magnitude if terms like 'fanboy' and 'hater' weren't tossed around so freely, and if people didn't decide to flame others just for posting their opinion (no matter how it's worded). Just sayin'.

Why is it apparently ok to post inflammatory, insulting critical threads but not respond to them in the same manner? That doesnt make sense. You will see little flaming of critical opinions of DA:O if the derrogatory trolling posts were removed and civil posting guidelines, for both sides of the issues,  were enforced.

Neither are ok. That is the point.

^^ this.  Report it to us and we'll take care of it if it needs taking care of.

Yeah, i know. After finishing reading the whole thread all i really have to say is that if the mods are going to allow baiting and inflammatory threads and thread titles, there is absolutely no way to stop the flaming in response. Not going to happen. Telling the flamers to "quit arguing and just address this points" is not going to cut it. It just seems like an endorsement of trolling.

Some universal posting guidelines would go a long way to cut down the discension and still allow for the posting of all opinions of the game.

Merin, you're projecting.

Posting in a thread is not the same as supporting it, nor is it seen so, as you say, "regardless of intent, THAT is how many will view your response." This may be how YOU see it.

How am I projecting?  How am I "attributing my own repressed thoughts to someone else" exactly?

I am not repressing my thoughts, I am sharing them.
And not counting my own posts, since Eurypterid posted the "I agree with much of what OP and Wild Maiden said" response, I count over 20 posts, of which I'd say over a dozen agree with how I saw Eurypterid's post and about a third that many agreed instead with Eurypterid (COUNTING Eurypterid's posts and yours.)

I think if you took a poll you'd find it's more than me who saw Eurypterid's post in such a light
and
I'm not repressing what I'm thinking.  Great Maker, have you read my posts?  Me?  Repressing my thoughts? Is this the introduction to the opposite sketches?

No need for all the confusion. Since the game's release many, many people have written well thought out, balanced, and reasonable critiques of the game citing specific issues that they liked and those that seemed to be "unbalanced". Instead of being left in peace to have their say, they have been lionized, insulted, and ridiculed by the game's squad of "defenders" who claim that the game is exactly is the devs intended, "mages are supposed to be uber", "just put more points in willpower" etc. However, this same laundry list of fixes suggested by the game's players matches very closely with the issues the devs agreed needed to be addressed and fixed.  Hence the patch addressing mage powers, stamina regen, loot tables, etc.

It seems very clear that these players were right and all the "working as intended", "it's not an mmo so balance doesn't matter" people owe us an apology, or at least stop crapping threads in which people express differing opinions including the god forbid, request for a change or an explanation. The game needs no defenders but the forum needs far less brown nosing jerks.

A jerk, by any other name, would still smell as bad.  You see, you were on a roll, until you finished out like you did, then, you just became another jerk on a game forum.

Well, as a Mod has stated earlier in this thread, the website was broken and they were unable to really do anything but warn.  Now that issue has been fixed.

It is rather odd that there are no stickied Forum Behavior threads.  They're all over the place at the Bioboards.

I'm guessing they're not at all done tweaking this site. Stickies would be welcome as well as the option to just view BioWare responses, should they be in a given thread, like on the BioBoards. Does make finding information a fair bit easier. But getting people to conduct themselves in a civil manner would be more pressing, I'd say.

if i were to start a thread that said  "Hey trolls, you are a bunch of idiots with nothing constructive to say so stop using the forums unless you want to have an actual conversation about the game.  Clearly you are full of yourselves so die in a fire"  would it stay unlocked for a day with multiple moderator posts?

You did EXACTLY that (I swear you actually used the words "die in a fire") and it remained open AND had multiple moderator posts... Seriously, you went through all the major criticisms people had and told them off one by one in epic troll fashion.  If the search feature wasn't so terrible I'd post a link.

Your hypocrisy continues to astound me Sloth...

...

I have to agree somewhat with Wild Maiden here.
:pinched:
While I was amused, the thread referred to was (at best) borderline.

Sorry, SoD.

Ok, lets take a look at the original post of this thread and how it applys to these rules.  Just for fun.

The OP:
Time to eat crow, not working as intended after all Read the patch notes and from now on don't be so mindless and intolerant of people using the forums to discuss what thehy would like to see changed.  Clearly the devs listen and agree, so stand down mabaris.

Now, what rules does this break?

No slander. Insults, language, belittling of others or anything
else deemed offense will be deleted without warning if considered
unacceptable by an official Moderator or member of BioWare/Electronic
Arts staff. Content that is insulting to anyone based on gender,
lifestyle, religion, ethic group, race etc. is unacceptable and will be
deleted without warning. A person or persons found to repeatedly
slander others may be banned from these forums at the discretion of the
staff.

-The original post calls people mindless and intolerant, as well as referring to them as animals.

No fighting, name calling, taunting or flame wars. There is no
place for fighting and flaming others on these message boards.
Disagreeing with other Community members is acceptable and understood,
but actively fighting and/or flaming will not be tolerated. Topics that
are designed to start a flame war (defined as abrasive and/or offensive
argument that serves no purpose but to make people mad) or posts made
that are discourteous and/or hostile to other Community members or the
discussion at hand will be treated as Spam and deleted without warning.
If someone acts in a hostile manner to you or to others, DO NOT engage
a person or persons who is fighting. Contact staff or a volunteer
moderator and let them handle the issue. What is considered fighting or
flaming is up to the discretion of staff and volunteer moderators. A
person or persons found to repeatedly fight or flame others may be
banned from these forums at the discretion of the staff.

-The original post not only directly engaes in name-calling but is written as a tauntwhich is obviously trying to start a flame war.  There is no actual point to the OP other than to provoke a negative response.

I could aso state the rule of precedence, where similar or even more on-topic threads have been locked due to not actually being about the game at all.

Take from this what you will.

They removed all DLC options, made the game incredibly easy and difficult at the same time, and gave us multiplayer?

*ducks* sorry, can't... resist... snark....

No, but they DID seem to nerf Cone of Cold.

Thanks a lot, guys.
Your senseless blabbering got a powerful spell for a SINGLE PLAYER RPG nerfed.

It's always the whiners that get things nerfed. It amazes me that game developers(and not just Bioware) listen to the vocal minority so much.

Alrighty, having spun our wheels back and forth as much as I think we can, gonna lock this one down.

Guys, things to take from this discussion:

a) Be excellent to each other.

B) If you see people NOT being excellent to each other, then tell a moderator.

c) We can and will ban you now. Behave.
