I'm seeing a trend here.

I don't have slowdowns either.

Drag0n doesn't, the guy on the previous page didn't, and I don't... and we all have Win7 64-bit.

Maybe it's 32-bit OS's?

Nope, win 7 64-bit here. Steam.

This game simply has inconsistent load times. I remember when I played NWN2, the load times were always the same, and on top of that, you had a screen showing you what portions of a map were being loaded and could visually follow-through to see which parts were slow/fast. With this game, the initial load time is under 5 seconds for a decent-sized area (approaching 5 seconds). Every additional hour / few areas that you play, the load time increases significantly (in proportion to the initial load times).

There is a logical explanation for it, the game is one big memory leak, dunno the first 3-4 hours of gameplay it loads fast enough for me personally or incredible fast, but as soon as you pass a certain point the game just goes downhill, it would be nice if they could do something about it like adding a memory purge feature with a patch meaning when you for an instance zone to a new place or whatever or region it empties stuff out from the buffer and reloads or something, would be nice for sure.

4GB ram, XFX Geforce 285 GTX, Dual core 2.8GB Intel CPU and blah blah blah, by the way I run this on Western Digital Velociraptor disks.... just some fast noting down stuff.

I have loading time issues, here's my specs:

Windows 7 64-bit
AMD Phenom II 720 @ 3GHz
8GB RAM
Intel X25-M G2 160GB (with trim enabled)
Radeon 5770
Detail max and all effects turned on

After a certain number of loads/transitions the load time skyrockets into over a minute, although the HD is doing absolutely nothing while it's going on (probably because the game is 32-bit and taking only 4 gigs, so it's just swapping around with the rest of my free memory). Fortunately, I can alt-f4, restart the game and load my last save in less than 10 seconds Posted Image.

Uhm my 3 year old daughters computer has got that beat easily by about 3 folds.  What is a "Ridiculous" load time?  I mean you kids and your instant gratification need to relax a little and stop looking at things that aren't an issue.  If the game had the memory leak people talk about the load times would be 2 minutes or more.  Thirty seconds is not that long at all.

Big contradiction in your post, you call people kids yet act childish belittling other people.

Yes the title is silly and exaggerated. but it IS an issue, load times are inconsistent and get increasingly worse the longer you play, while it isn't game breaking and can be fixed by restarting the game it is still an issue.

Now stop playing a defensive fanboi for the WRONG reasons, personally I dislike when people complain about things that are only perceived problems but this is actually real.

Turn off Persistent Gore. It seems as if the gore effects don't get purged from memory otherwise -- in other words, they build up and build up and make the game slower and slower. Since a single fight covers you from head to toe in blood, just think how much memory ends up wasted on the gore.

YES, the loading times are a BUG BUG BUG.

Bioware seriously pi**es customers off with this. Even in NWN (old game, slower computers) loadtimes have been better... a shame, really.

Load times are "ridiculous" ...I can leave the room and fix a sandwich and come back before my party has transitioned out of Redcliffe Castle. There is something wrong with the game running on many types machines.

It starts out fine, then bogs down after an hour or so.

Some games have "garbage collection" functions, maybe this game needs that as well...clear out the memory more often, because it is certainly not speeding up screen load by keeping all that stuff hanging in memory.

Wouldn't be bad if there was only a few loading screens in the entire game, but its - corridor, load, hallway, load, small room, load. After a few hours playing with this memory leak even tiny areas can take over a minute to load...

Bioware please dump your rubbish game engine - its completely outdated in 2009

Memoryleak anyone?.

I thing the loadingtimes getting scary after a certain amount of "zonejumps"
of a certain amount of time played.  If i restart the game, it goes back to normal
loadingtimes. Can only be memoryleak.

A stupid question but can they make a patch to fix the excessive load times for the PC version?

They will when they can but checking/rewriting hundreds/thousands of pages of code takes a while

hey ogreinal poster, what does "long loading time" really mean to you? does it feel like 3 mins or 30 minuts? but most important, mind if you give us your full system spec?

I've actually had this off since the beginning of the game, and while it might lessen the issue, load times definitely do increase after an hour or two. After another hour or two, they've reached "has the game hung?" territory (save & exit time). Granted, I'm running the PC version in Vista32 with only 2GB RAM, but since the first dozen loads are quick, there definitely seems to be some issue, whether it be memory or data-structure-caching related.

After several hours of playing (yes, I can afford to play video games all night if I want) my loading times get to the point where I can smoke the cigarette before the next zone loads - that is more than 2 minutes.
Btw calling someone you have no clue about "a kid" is not always a smartest move. My daughter is 22 - beats up your 3 yo as far as kids go.

Load times do increase as you play, perhaps due to memory leaks and/or memory fragmentation.

When I notice it becoming slow, I see the memory is around 1.2GB. I save, quit the game, relaunch, load the game I just saved, and the memory is 0.8GB. Load times are fast again. Repeat.

And it's not my machine -- I have a Core i7 with 6GB RAM; Windows 7.

That's really interesting. Some people have long load time, others don't.

I don't. Really. It flashes "loading" a couple of times then it's done.

I might notice a slight increase when I've played for many hours, but it's not much.

What does happen, if I persist and play ridiculous hours without restarting, is that the game might crash.

Well, it's happened maybe a couple of times, and since then, I simply restart the game after about 6 hours.

Vista64, 8GB, AMD processor, AMD graphics.

Confirming that it gets MUCH longer after a certain amount of play - my initial load times are 10-ish seconds usually, but at some point it is nearly 60 seconds. I do have persistent gore=on, so just for grins later will try turning it off...

By all indications, I agree with the above posters that it is behaving like a memory leak due to good initial loads - if it was hardware, it should almost always load slowly.

My setup:

Core i7-975

12 GB Ram

nvidia GTX 295 2GB VRAM

Win7 Ultimate x64

I just bought the game and start playing it, after a few hours my last load time was...20 minutes.

I quit the game and loaded Wow in. Now Im reluctant to go back to it.
I think this needs fixing sooner rather than later because it is taking away from the fun of playing the game.

my system is
Intel core 2 quad 2.5 Ghz
4GB Ram
Vista 64bit
512 MB ATI Radeon 3870x2

Load times are really long for me aswell, it really sucks that you have to wait atleast 1 minute each time you're changing zones. Persistent gore is on if it matters.

Win7 Pro 64-bit
Intel i7 920
Radeon HD 5850 Black Edition
6GB RAM

EDIT:

Load times are terrible for me. I have a velociraptor hard drive which is the fastest thing next to an SSD, a core I7 870, 8 gb ddr3 ram, and 2xCrossfire Radeon 5870 and I still get terrible load times.

Well, I tried the suggestion to use the .exe file rather than the launcher, and noticed vastly faster travel times and load times. If you're having any troubles at all, use this method.
