I'll see if I can't convince the rest of the team to run something. The chest/item approach for the challenge honestly irks me a bit, but I'll get over that :)

i would suggest to BtB that a slight modification to the official rules should be made along the lines of:

"OR an alternate system that records at the very least the public CD key of the player who checks-in is acceptable in lieu of acomputerdood's chest."

i, too, would be irked if i had to use some chump's system that i didnt like just to participate in a cool event.  especially if i knew i could come up with something equivalent that fit my server better.  of course, we'll have to wait for BtB's official ruling on this, but it was never my intention to force everyone to use my system.

One thing I've been pondering about though - the different gameworlds have very different game types. Our server for one is rather strict about roleplaying your character and keeping everything IC, and it would ruin things a bit for us if a lot people started flooding in with no awareness of that. Perhaps we could make people aware of the game types and what they entail? I figure that many aren't aware of the concepts of IC, OOC and all the other aspects of PnP-like roleplay.

a fantastic point that i think BtB has already responded to.  i agree - i would hate for this event to ruin the specific flavor of each PW.  the intent is for players to experience and appreciate each different world, not the other way around.

Agreed and I updated the Official rules.  I also made a locked sticky on the project board that has the official rules

You might also recognise the world that attracted the most world-walkers ;-)

While I cannot figure a way to reliably divide a world's challenge participants into those who are 'new' from those participations of its existing playerbase, I like the idea in concept.  My concern is that this would almost automatically go to the world with the largest existing playerbase (rather than being driven by those visitors who joined as part of the world-walking event, which I believe is your intent).  However, I'm all for rewarding the worlds that participate and would love to figure something out.

Heck, I'm all for making every player who participates a winner.  For example, once we get the distribution of participations after the event, determine (forced % or some other method) the distribution breaks.

All theoretical here, but something along the lines of:

25 worlds visited:  1 player = Level "Grand World Walker"
20 - 24 worlds visited:  25 players = Level "World Walker"
15 - 19 worlds visited:  75 players = Level "World Seer"
8 -14 worlds visited:  230 players = Level "World Visitor"
2 - 7 worlds visited:  560 players = Level "World Tourist"
1 world visited:  850 players = Level "World Xenophobe"

Accordingly, even those players who only went to 1 participating world could be eligible for some prize that is significantly less valuable (maybe just a hundred XP or gold.  That's significant on Arenthyor, but something you can achieve within 20-30 minutes of hunting).  Successively higher levels achieve more valuable cash or prizes.

What do you think?

The Burrow currently has only 3 active players.  From my perspective I would just look in my servervault and see how many new accounts were created during the competition period.

I'll happily open the entrance to The Burrow for anyone who wants to poke their nose in and sniff around

Tassie - excellent!
int iNWPAD = 5;
iNWPAD = iNWPAD +1;

Looking forward to seeing what the burrow of a wombat actually looks like.

Download the sign placeable and the chest/script package that ACD developed. Put the sign up in your world asap (customize as you see fit). Then, have a think about what events you could run during the NWPAD event period and post a schedule on your forums so players (old and new) will know when to participate.

Welcome aboard!

Many thanks to Ehye_Khandee for supporting NWPAD through the ArgentumRegio server!

int iNWPAD = 6;
iNWPAD =iNWPAD+1;

We now have 7 servers officially signed up for Neverwinter Player Appreciation Days.  Find the full list here.  Get the word out!  With the number of servers that are live and the minimal requirements to participate (just run some events between 6/18 - 7/3), we should have strong representation from our persistent worlds!

Brilliant news!!

GOG.com, who offers the NWN Diamond download (DRM-free, I might add) for the low,low price of $9.99 is on-board with supporting NWPAD. They will be supporting us through a promotional giveaway program (TBD on the specifics, but I think it will be like a small sweepstakes) as well as helping to get the word out about NWN through their social media.

Kudos to GOG.com for supporting the NWN community!

I'll be at Phoenix Comicon this weekend. I'm going to be putting a simple sign on my backpack that says:

Are you a NWN Person?
Player? DM? Builder?
Introduce Yourself!

Me? I'm The Amethyst Dragon

I'll talk up NWN to anyone that say's "hi". :)

World of Caenyr is definitely on board. Let me know how I can help, and I'll get our community rallied around this. We're celebrating our 10 year anniversary as well, so this rolls up nicely with other activities we have cookin'! And I'm glad to be able to help cross-promote other PW's and strengthen the larger NWN community. Let's make it happen! PM me any details, we can even get on MSN and discuss live if you want.

<scribbling madly...>

Ai! Two more to add to my Grand Tour!

Tentative details - I'll be staging Skeaver Demonsbane (pure death-wish fighter) on each server (which means I have to find some time to finish Argentium's Noob U :-).
On June 30th/July 1st I'll start my server-crawl with servers in the order listed, spending not less than 1 hour and not more than 2 in each world. Schedule to be determined, but I'm hoping to use Neverwinterconnections to do it. Because of the tight scheduling required, if you're interested in joining the crawl, please create/stage a low-level PC on each server you plan to visit. We want to dive right in, right? =)

I hope to see friends from here during my crawl and really *really* hope some of them are good at healing ;-) Skeaver gets a little... excitable.

For DM's/admins: as a player I hope to find a gathering/staging area quickly, and a quick submersion into something that highlights the flavor of your world.

As Skeaver, I just want to kill things. Especially things a sane person is terrified of.

Well so I am still not exactly clear on how many winners there will be, but this is what Av3 is going with:

For Aventia's local winner I am offering 12 QP, and if the global (cross server) winner wishes to redeem their prize with Av3 I will offer 24 QP and 10 mil xp. If multiple winners are granted (i.e. 1st, second, and third place) I will offer those as 1st place rewards, 6 QP and 3 QP for second and third local winners, and 12 QP and 5 mil xp for 2nd place global or 6 QP and 2.5 mil for 3rd place global winners if they choose to redeem on Av3.

So my question is how many global winners will there be?

Well, I've just updated The Burrow to let players know we are participating ... unfortunately I have also discovered that I will be working full-time during that period.  Given that we are in Australia I don't think we will be able to run any specific events during times when people are playing ... shame, I was hoping to unleash the wombats on some unsuspecting tourists !!

So we are committing ourselves to being open for the World-Walker Challenge and if we happen to stumble across some victims tourists on the weekend then the muzzles are off and we shall 'let loose the wombats of war' !!

i'd encourage you to spend some time reading each server's homepage and the game journal to get a feel for the flavor of each server.  i tried to highlight some things in the official server thread, but most of the server flavor is posted in those other resources.

also consider reading through each server's scheduled events to see if there's anything special you don't want to miss.  no reason why you can't make a second visit.

Can I get a little clarification here?

"* That NWPAD representative will integrate all the data from all worlds and count/clean the entries to determine the unique entries per world per cd/login. Just to be clear, 1 entry per cd/login per world. This will standardize all worlds regardless of restart frequency. " from (http://social.biowar...scussion/79929/)

So, does this mean, that only 1 check in per cd key per server is going to be counted for the whole duration of the event? I still think it should be one for each day of the event. Otherwise how would you ever have a clear winner? If only 7 worlds are participating, and everyone has 7 entries...

Also what is going to happen if there is a tie?

For us locally, I am going to offer 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prizes. If we have a tie, I will split the prize.

Gloably though (across all servers involved), we need to decide how to handle this.

And speaking of PW involvement... come on guys and gals, this is a great opportunity for big and little servers to showcase all their hard work. It would be great to see more PWs get involved. I find it kinda disappointing the lack of broader community involvement in this.

It doesn't take much to participate. List your PW here:
http://social.biowar...scussion/79857/

Download the sign, chest and script here:
http://www.dalakora....loads/nwpad.zip

Import into your module, and put the sign in your loading area (it's in the pallet under placeables, [ACD do you know the exact catagory? I wrote it down, but can't find it now]), and when the event begins, place the chest in your loading area (or where ever you choose.)

Save your server log once a day during the course of the event, and at the end send them (or the required info [i.e. public cd key, and checkins]) to the NWPAD person who will compile the data and determine the winners, await the results, and award your players.

BTB, it might be good if you stickied this type of info on your boards, to make it clear to PW owners what is needed to get involved (I know this info has already been presented, but would make it easier it if were clearly defined as a sticky instead of having to wade through posts of discussion).

Maybe one of the organizers can make a PC and visit some of the more active servers to ask their operators if they might be interested in joining this effort? It is entirely possible they just don't frequent these forums and so don't yet know. Time is short, but still... it may be worth a visit to some of them.

Agreed, 7 participating worlds is nice, but there could be 100. Especially if a facet of this is to re-kindle some intrest from old players, and spark interest in new, it would be nice if some of the big time servers out there (like PoA, HoW, and so many others) jumped on board with this (not to mention other smaller servers like mine). It really doesn't take much, and it certainly won't take away from anyone's player base in the long run. In fact most likely quite the opposite. I hope that fear isn't what is preventing more PWs from coming aboard.

A long time ago, the original owner of Aventia predicted that as the NWN player base deminished, more servers would start merging, or sharing server vaults. Or being connected in some capacity. He did this with Gondolyn, taking it under his wing, and linking it to Aventia, and had a shared inter-server link with Dor-Maganil (?). But ultimately I believe this never really came to fruition due to how highly customized different PWs have become, and it just not being feasable to have inter-server plane walkers due to this. Never the less, we are part of the greater NWN 1 community, i just think it's too bad more of the community is not banding together to celebrate this 10 year anniversary collectively. Not as competitors (between servers I mean), but as a group of gamers who share a love for NWN, and want to see it continue to persist.

With PoTM and Caenyr on board, we're officially up to 9 worlds participating.  Here's the running list that I keep updated at the project board

Arenthyor
Dalakora
Netheril Rising
World of Aenea
Aventia 3, Merged- Unlimited Levels
A Wombat Loose in Nordock
City of Dohral
Ravenloft - Prisoners of the Mist
World of Caenyr

It's a great start, but you guys are correct in that this should be much larger number.  I've thought about the fact that many admins may not be on these forums or, if they are, may not be frequenting the PW/Multiplayer thread.  However, I didn't want to spam all the other threads (though I've made some shameless plugs for NWPAD on a couple of posts).

I think that if other people spread the word on the other forum threads about the event, it will have more traction than if I did it, but I'm happy to do it in order to raise awareness.  Many times, the collective voice of many people whispering is louder than one person screaming.

I have been hanging out lately on the Gamespy chat channel spamming to players about the event and asking them to talk to their DMs.  I'd encourage everyone to do the same...before you get on your server, spend 10-15 minutes on the chat channel and try to engage the players you see there.

We have just over 2 weeks until the events.  Participating worlds should be doing the following:

1)  Download the sign/chest/script package
2)  Prominently display the sign in your new player start area (customize the description as needed)
3)  Develop and post a schedule for the events that you'll run so players and visitors will know when to focus their visit.  As an example, here's the one for Arenthyor.  There's no minimum number of days/events.  Just do something.
4)  Encourage other worlds/players to participate.  It's up to us, and only us, to maket this HUGE!

Regarding the 'World-Walker Challenge:

There will be only 1 Grand prize winner (i.e. the Grand World Walker). Depending on the distribution of the data for participants, we will create other levels of prizes (e.g. World Walker, World Seer, World Visitor, World Tourist, etc..).

I was thinking to only use 1 prize code per world per login/cd key, because to do a raw total count of visits would unfairly advantage worlds with frequent players, rather than support the objective of the challenge, which is to encourage visits to all the participating worlds. However, if we do 1/day/world/login max, it's essentially the same thing, so I'm good with that. It still limits the number of points that visiting a single server can get you, thus preventing a high-frequency visitor of a single world from winning. Participants would still need to frequent other worlds in order to stand a chance of winning. (So, with 9 worlds participating with 15 days of events, that is a maximum point score of 135 if a player visited each world 1x per day - hard, but doable).

In the event of a tie, the players will be ranked according to their weighted average number of visits per world.

If there's no objection, I'll update the 'rules' accordingly. The official rules are posted here.

Let me know if you have questions.

As far as prizing, the fine people over at GOG.com have been very generous in the support of our little soiree. They will be supplying us with codes for a FREE DOWNLOAD of NWN Diamond to offer as prizes.

World Walker Challenge:  The top 10 World Walker Challenge winners will earn a free download copy of NWN Diamond.

Worlds should also develop their own prizing structure to offer to the winning players.  A winning player will be able to 'redeem' some in-game appropriate prize based on their performance in the challenge (the player who redeems the Grand World Walker should get a better in-game prize than the World Tourist).  Lazarus Magni did a great job of outlining his example a few posts up.  AND, for the worlds lucky enough to get a winning player to redeem a prize in their world, that world will ALSO be provided with a FREE DOWNLOAD of NWN Diamond (courtesy of GOG.com) that they can redeem for their personal use or to give away to their own playerbase.

In addition, feel free to adopt additional prizing that sits alongside the World Walker Challenge to encourage maximum visits to your server during that time.

Shameless plug:  Please remember GOG.com for all your game download needs (incidentally, their downloads are DRM-free).

I could do this, however I am prolly not the best NWPAD ambassador. I am far to outspoken to not have made enemies left and right.

It's not a shameless plug. You don't get any personal gain from this (other than perhaps getting more people interested in your world if you even have one). It's merely getting the word out on what should be a massive event given the continued player (and server) base of a 10 year old game.

Well please decide on the final number of potential winners, so PWs can scale their rewards accordingly. TY for the clarification on checkins per day. I really think that will make this a much more competative, and balanced challange for players.

This is pretty amazing. If some of you other PW owners haven't realized yet, this is semi-official with the main distributor of the game on board, if not fully official (*waves @ bioware*). I don't understand how or why more of you all aren't wanting to get involved.

And so apparently GOG has set the standard. 10 Winners. I will scale our local and global rewards offered accordingly. Does this jive whith what you guys (ACD and BTB) are going for?

Also BTB can you clarify who will be the data compiler, result distributor?

That person hasn't been identified yet.  If someone is interested in helping with this critical task, PM me.  I think the logs should come to me and then I'll distribute them to the person who will do the compiling/reporting.  That way, 2 people have the logfiles in case there's some issue with the data.

The person should have the skills to take the text logfiles for each world for each day, sort for the prize code log info, extract it, and then count the deduped unique number of entries/day/world, accounting for the 1/day maximum/world (there may be a couple more steps from there).
