Oh, and by the way,
Here's the final version of the flyer that we developed and for distribution at Origins Gamefair between 5/30 - 6/3.  http://www.filefacto...AD_v1_FINAL_pdf

Check it out.  It came out nice.  Feel free to use it in whatever situations you feel appropriate.  Take it to your gaming group.  Give it to your friends.  Post it on any public bulletin board you can.  Forget 'Kony 2012' ...it's all about 'NWN 2012'!!

Much thanks to Brian and the whole NWN Podcast team who will be facilitating the distribution of the flyers at Origins while they record a podcast episode there (don't forget to check that one out).  Also thanks to The Amethyst Dragon for creative collaboration on the flyer.

There will be only 1 Grand prize winner (i.e. the Grand World Walker). Depending on the distribution of the data for participants, we will create other levels of prizes (e.g. World Walker, World Seer, World Visitor, World Tourist, etc..).

I was thinking to only use 1 prize code per world per login/cd key, because to do a raw total count of visits would unfairly advantage worlds with frequent players, rather than support the objective of the challenge, which is to encourage visits to all the participating worlds. However, if we do 1/day/world/login max, it's essentially the same thing, so I'm good with that. It still limits the number of points that visiting a single server can get you, thus preventing a high-frequency visitor of a single world from winning. Participants would still need to frequent other worlds in order to stand a chance of winning. (So, with 9 worlds participating with 15 days of events, that is a maximum point score of 135 if a player visited each world 1x per day - hard, but doable).

i always thought that 1 entry per PW was going to be too low to be able to clearly decide a winner, but i wanted to see if enough worlds would sign up to make it a non-issue.

i also felt that 1 checkin per day would be more appropriate, but if it takes 30-60 min to find the chest per world (not even including the time invested in learning the world), then it could be 4-10 hours per day to find all the signs.  that's quite a commitment.  on the other hand, that player will truly deserve to win first place.  i'm going to predict, however, that the winning player will get 83 entries (assuming the participating worlds stays at 9).  hah, maybe we should set up a pool  :)

there will be some extra logistics to syncronize what "per day" is.  adjusting logs to UTC will be difficult, because my server will place the chests based on its own local restart schedule, which doesn't coincide with UTC.  i guess we'll just have to ask for submissions to be categorized into "days" before they're sent in.

the PW admins should also let potential world walkers know their restart/placement schedule so people don't accidentally miss a day.  players would also have the chance to plan their adventures around that.

Hmm couldnt you post the details on pastebin?

EDIT:Im thinking what I can do is add a special token to players inventory thru theses NWPAD date then after the date those characters will be transported not connected to the player wolrd where they will have options.

EDIT:Oh hear is my original question, doh.I know that there will probably be a central event board giving times of where and when. But is it possible to have a realtime whats happening now kinda thing?I have a levlup up server also  but doesnt have to be that can be anyones for a place to kinda meet in game.Could give the DM password out to other PW DM's so they could meet with people there?Just  thoughts.

you mean like a chat room?  for what purpose?

as far as a list of events, that part is somewhat unorganized, but all of the information is available in one place:
http://social.biowar...63/#discussions - is the location of the project as a whole (other than this thread, of course).

http://social.biowar...scussion/80085/ - a quick howto for PW owners to participate in the world walker challenge.

http://social.biowar...scussion/79857/ - a list of participating worlds.  each PW should have a post in the thread giving some details about their own world (connection information, forums, webpage, list of events, flavor, etc).

so no, there's no centralized schedule to coordinate all the events for all PWs.  nobody's taken the initiative to make a google calendar or something to do this.  for my own PW, i've linked to the relevant events thread in my forum and asked players to check it.

BTB - you are right you only have TWO WEEKS remaining, so go login to each of the servers where you see any population, hit the DM channel and ASK. YOU are the organizer, who better to ask/inform than you?

Lurking in gamespy chat is not very likely to find the ear of a DM let alone an ADMIN. But, if there is a DM online, the DM channel of any server will do. In the end, the difference between a hundred servers participating and ten servers participating is going to come down to your time promoting it directly to the servers' staff. There is NO better place for that than the DM channel of the server or the forum of each server (the downside of the latter is you have to sign up for each forum, then come back to it, the downside of the former is you may need a boat load of haks).

Either way, time is ticking.

Best wishes.

As far as checkins per day, it should not matter what time zone the server is located in. The server logs show time and date (or at least mine do.) Publishing the restart schedule is also not necessary due to this. It would not be a bad idea for each participating world to post exactly when the event starts for them (e.g. 12:00 am CST June 18th for us since our server is located in Chicago) though so people can know when a "day" turns over for the server log.

Flyer looks great. I'm wondering though if simply telling people to google NWPAD NWN will lead them to the proper place? (I was send here, for example)

We've decided to go full in on this and will be running our recurring Play-New-Characters event for the entire period - effectively meaning that we seal of the low level areas and hubs from all existing characters so that everyone starts out new and on same terms. It's usually great fun and there'll definitely be a lot roleplay to experience for anyone dropping by

I would love if we could get some final word on what we need to record though (CD keys? Logins? Daily?) so I can make sure that we are ready for that.

Looking forward to it all!

zara -

you can either use the readymade world walker challenge prize code giver thingy found here:
http://www.dalakora....loads/nwpad.zip

or follow the submission guidelines here:
http://social.biowar...scussion/79929/

specifically:

Alternatively, the world may incorporate an alternate system that records, at the very least, the public CD key and login of the player who checks-in.

this information must be collected once per "day" of the event. the "day" will be left up to each server's definition based on their restart-schedule. hopefully it will coincide with about once per 24 hours.

This approach is still problematic for us since we only restart manually (using the reset plugin is not an option for us at this time, although I have been experimenting with an alternative.)

Will there be a problem if I manually seprate our log files into 24 hr periods? I will just cut and paste all info from each 24 hr period into 14 seprate logs corresponding with the 14 days of the event if that is acceptable.

no, that would be fantastic.

to tally them up, i would just need some idea how your are counting a "once per day" find for your server.

BtB suggested some sort of twitter thing somewhere already....

ahhh, here it is:

i have no idea what any of that means.  just wanted to point out that BtB had already tried to organize some twits (?).

Well if that is acceptable, I will just make a seprate log for each day starting at 12:00am, and going to 11:59 pm.

Hey all,

As with many you, I have also been feeling that there's a need for a more centralized source of info about the events, participating worlds, and all things relevatn to NWPAD.

So, I've created a basic website at:   www.nwpad.weebly.com.

Its still early in development, but you can see where I'm headed and should have it fully up and running later today or tomorrow (or at least ready for ppl to point to it). I'll be adding a schedule of events, more about Rolo's Server Crawl, hopefully more about individual server events, a list of how PWs can support NWPAD, and some upcoming cool stuff that will be done to highlight the efforts of the most under-appreciated group: custom content creators (think NWPAD's community lifetime achievement awards!) - more to come.

Much of the content will be sources from this thread or the project boards.

What I need:
If your world is participating - PM me your schedule of events (or a link to it). I'd love to add screenshots of your world as well. send them to me at thudnblunder at hot mail dot com. I'll add them throughout the site and will try to tag them being from your world.

Awesome!  This is very cool and I can't wait to check it out.  What's even better is that you've done it before, so your players know what to expect.

Well so this is how it's going to go down for us.

I am still not sure how many global winners will be accepted, but for Av3 I will award 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. The awards are noted in the thread on our boards. If the global winner(s) choose to redeam on Av3, that prize is also noted there. If there is a tie (both locally and or globally) the prizes will be split (at least on Av3, I can not speak to how this may be handled by NWPAD.)

As far as the event is concerned starting June 18th I will place one of the code redeaming chests in low, mid and high lvl areas, and will update the sign accordingly so that people know where to look for them. This should allow new players access to them, but yet not have it in the loading area, where by all people need to do is log in for 2 min to get the code for the day. And yet also provide regulars an opportunity to get the codes in areas appropiate for their toons. I will most likely move the chests around periodically through out the course of the event (the 2 weeks), and update the sign accordingly.

Keep in mind this is a competition for the players. So delvulging the location of the chests to others may not be in your best interest, and yet finding one with a party for that particular day may be.

Also, you can open the chest multiple times, but only the first time you do, per 24 hrs of the event, will count towards your local and global checkin count.

The 24 hr interval will start at 12:00 am 6/18/12 CST. and End (for Av3) at 11:59 PM 7/3/12 CST. Every day the day rolls over from 11:59 pm to 12:00 am begins a new interval at which a new code will be accepted (both locally and globally) towards that individual's check in count.

The check in's are logged in the server log, and tied to our public CD keys. There is nothing players need to do, other than find the chests, retrieve the codes. I will award our local winners, and the global winners will be notified by the NWPAD team. If the global winner chooses to redeam their global prize (in addition to the GoG sponsored, free copy of nwn1) on Aventia 3, I will facilitate that in addition to our local winner prize.

Anyone have questions related to Av3's participation feel free to ask.

Neverwinter's 10th anniversary is 12 days away. Are you ready?

Is your server interested in saying thank-you to the players who play there and taking some time to reflect upon the limitless fun this game has provided?

visit www.nwpad.weebly.com to learn more.

The website looks absolutely great. We'll be sending newsletters out soon linking to it and the excitement is really building in our community. Most DMs have also said they'll be around all they can running events, so we'll probably have a good handful events each day. Personally, though I imagine it being busy days, I also hope to get around visiting each other world participating once.

As for the chest (or the equivalence) I hope it's alright we simply have it in our OOC entrance areas. We're just really zealous in avoiding OOC elements in the IC game world.

I am sure that is fine Zara, BTB stated as much. RP servers have a unique challenge integrating this into their worlds, and however it is handled is all good I imagine.

I just wanted to say, thank you very much BelowTheBelt, and acomputerdood for organizing this. I imagine it has been a tremendous amount of work, especially considering it is something for the community, and not just your own individual servers.

Cheers, I am looking forward to celebrating this momentous occasion with you all.

Sorry about that...the website editor must've screwed that up.  A couple of the links got merged I think because the text editor was considering Ravenloft and World of Caenyr to be the same text line in the list, thus was using WOC's link.  It's fixed now.
