Given the small size of my logs/checkins, I've been making one singular NWPAD file by extracting the prize code info from my daily logs and dropping it into one log that is chronological.

I also have done this, and in fact have not saved my actual logs for this reason.

BelowTheBelt wrote...

Also, I was planning on posting the login account of the winners there as well as here (not the CD key, though). I think that the servers should also post the winning logins on whatever signage they used to promote the event. Anyone have any issues with displaying player public login info?

Umm... player account names should not be an issue. Public keys (the ones that show in the logs), should not be published. For the 10 global prizes perhaps just send these to the PW owners/hosts for the purpose of validating the winners.

BelowTheBelt wrote...

Also, we then have the interesting challenge of validating a player to send out the download codes for the top winners. I'm thinking that one of the admins of a participating server needs to verify the winning login/cd combination of the player and then acquire an e-mail address that I can use to send the code and directions for its use.

If a winning player approaches an admin to "redeem" his winnings on your server, please let me know asap so we avoid any attempts to redeem for winnings on multiple servers by the same player. Also remember that servers who have players redeem on their for their in-game prizes also get a copy of the game to distribute to their playerbase as they see fit.

Coming into the home stretch! Congrats to everyone for their participation and hope that it was a great experience for your players and that you saw some new faces around while celebrating NWN's 10th anniversary!

And regarding winners, there should probably be a grace period. Winners names posted. The winners then have a week or something to contact you BtB with their e-mails so that they can redeem the copy of NWN1, and notify the PW of their choice which one they want to redeem their global prize on. That PW aDMin can then contact BtB and verify that yes indeed, that individual (with the correct player account, and CD key) is legit, and will be redeeming their global prize on that world.

That's my suggestion anyways...

P.S. If a player doesn't want their account name published, they could always request this, and the name can be changed to annonymous 1, 2, 3, ect... or something. Really only the PW owners need the official list of the top 10 world walker winners and their associated player account names and public CD keys for verifying and coordinating award distributiion.

i wrote a script that assumed the logs were in the format i asked for earlier.  if i don't get them like that, then i'll likely just break them up myself.  and if i can't tell what each server considered a "day" to be, i'll just do my best.

there is no reason why the public CD key can't be posted.  you can't derive the non-public parts of the key from the public, so nothing can be stolen.  any given public cd key may have multiple player accounts associated with it.

Also, we then have the interesting challenge of validating a player to send out the download codes for the top winners. this should be easy - the winning player(s) will be announced on the webpage and in this thread.  it's highly likely that he reads one of those two things.  otherwise, he's a player on one of the servers and can be reached that way.

once the global winners are announced and identified, (maybe even verify they have the cdkey by having them log into BtB's server), then he can send out the prizes.

and yes, these local prizes should be coordinated through BtB as well.  though each server can give out extra awards as they see fit.

I have broken my tally count into days, it should be perfectly clear (not to mention the time/date stamp on each entry)...

If you say so...  I personally don't see the need, and won't be doing this myself.  The only people who need this info are the tally counters, and the PW owners (who may be awarding global prizes.)

I personally am not planning on tracking down winners to coordinate prize claims. I have a real life as I am sure most of you do also. If I catch one in game great, but if not, I am not going to be on the server 24/7 for a week straight just to do this...

This isn't a bad idea, except for the fact that BtB's server requires a hak to log in (as does yours...) Redeeming these prizes shouldn't require jumping through hoops. Shoot the prize giver a pm, tell them which world you are wanting to redeem on and bam, done (from the players perspective anyways... aDMins and the event coordinator [BtB] will still have to communicate to ensure only one prize per winner is redeemed, hence my purposed grace period...).

Local prizes do not need to be coordinated with BTB or anyone out side the server giving them. It's strictly an optional internal affair. Once I know my local winners I will go directly to the DB and award them accordingly. The only thing that needs to be coordinated cross server are the global (world walker) awards.

Here's what I'm thinking to let your players know whether or not they were a global winner:
1) nwpad.weebly.com will be updated with login info. I think we need to keep the cd key info separate so that we have something to 'validate' the player with.
2) We'll update this thread with the winning login names.
3) Servers can update whatever signage they have in-game with the list of winners. Can we agree to keep that sign up for a month at the most?

If a player says he/she's a winner...
1) Check their CD key using a DM tool that you probably have...this will validate that they are indeed the winner
2) Get their e-mail and PM me on the boards.
3) I will send their code to them directly with instructions

Because part of a global winner's prize also includes in-game gifts from 1 participating server, I'd still like to know that they redeemed on your server, so we can coordinate those winners across sites and prevent them from redeeming "local" winner prizes on multiple sites. I consider it highly unlikely that any would do that, but you never know.

I can keep a running tally of which global winners have redeemed for global prizes and their local prize.

If you have alternate local prizing structures for other local winners, I don't need to know that.

And as we head into the final hours of NWPAD (and in some timezones, it's already over), I just want to thank everyone for their effort and participation. More to come on that, but wanted to send out a hearty thank-you to everyone who participated - players, admins, contributors, etc... that helped make this event a success.

Congrats everyone!

This sounds good guys, I think there was some confusion as to the vanacular in terms of the use of "local" winners. For Av3 I have a prize structure for local winners (Av3 players) that is independant of the Global (cross server, world walker) prizes I am offering if one of those top 10 chooses to redeem on Av3.

So to sum it up, as a PW aDMin, if a world walker winner approaches me on the mod (or boards) and says they want to redeam their global prize on Av3, I then get their e-mail, PM it to you BtB along with their public CD key, and await to hear back from you that they have not already redeamed on another world correct? I can then award them their in game global prize. You will also then send them the code for the free copy of NWN 1 diamond. I just want to be absolutely clear for all parties involved what is expected.

Also, we still need an e-mail of the person tallying up all the results... If that person doesn't want to post it, can you PM me please?

Thanks, and yes cheers on a great event everyone.
Laz

The Burrow's final tally (once per day, per account):

Wibble Woble = 3
Gelmar = 12
Deege = 7
Below The Belt = 1
Lazarus Magni = 1

I too had put all my code redemption log entries into one notepad file ... so I will get to work sorting them into the correct format ... with so many it's going to take hours *rolls eyes and tries for melodrama ... falls flat and lands on face*

Just started working on my logs and came up with a question. I made 15 folders, named 01-15 as requested ... but there are actually 16 logs ... 18th to 3rd inclusive is 16 days!!

So which date am I leaving off ... 18th or 3rd?? Or am I making 16 folders??

You guys over at the Wombat, you sadly lack players! Im that Gelmar guy :) It do look interesting on the other hand.

I wrote some over at POTM that we need to get a tighter and more close knit community then we have right now. Support each others and be friendlier :)

EDIT: And also! I pretty much visited every single server on the list. The NWPAD chests varied a lot. From close to impossible to find to upon entry. If we for example, start doing this every year by this time!  Communication between the servers should become better so that it can be arranged similar on each server or atleast discussed on how to do this.

I think it's a brilliant Idea, I wish there would of time for the Border Kingdoms to join up for this. (If there is any list for NWPAD, put us down, if there is still.)  I think a General 'Roleplaying Alliance' in Neverwinter Nights should be made. Collectively shares players, maybe a few scripters, area designers, and has a 'Alliance Hold' on every forum, with one topic for each server apart, giving some detail on the server. Work together, use the playerbase, and not fight. Have some donations being made for this 'Alliance' to find roleplayers, and maybe give some free copies of NWN 1 out?

Thanks for stopping by so freqently :)  It was unfortunate that RL decided to hamstring me right at this time so I couldn't even attempt to hold any events.

I know I did sic a wombat on somebody ... can't remember now if that was you or not.

OK, I have the data separated - where do I send it and in what form? [I'm just a bit confused as it was discussed at length above - but I'm not totally certain of the outcome - could you review it here for us all?]

Thanks in advance.

Huh?  If you are starting some sort of 'Roleplaying Alliance' you should share a link to that thread for us - your brief mention of it above really does not illuminate the matter for me and worse, it detracts from the topic here in this thread. I look forward to seeing an URL to a full work-up of your idea when it is ready.

You should send a version to me and then separately a version to ACD. That way, we have 2 versions of the files to ensure we can reproduce the results by a third-party if we ever have any disputes about the winners.

Send my version to (minus the quotes): xxxx

If you have trouble deciphering that, PM me and I'llsend it to you the right way. I'll let ACD provide his contact details.

Just a suggestion for an Idea. Maybe you should do it? Seems like you have a touch for organizing community.

I had 16 days worth of logs (June 18 up to and including July 3).
