Before I go any further, I apologize to BtB that I screwed up your poll.
But I believe that right evaluation of the winning rankings and its deserving prizes comes first.

Now, I think it is time to reveal terrible and scandalous secret that was only suspicion so far.
I am one of the 8 players who are “World Walker Scout”, we, 8 players do not know each other and use same CD key.

How is that possible? Our CD key we share(Public CD key: QC4PQ3UL) is one of the most wild spread CD key on the internet. If there is any difference between this CD key from others on the internet is that users of this CD key had good standing and it wasn’t banned on many servers.

Logically speaking, what are the chances that 8 players have the same public CD key? Perhaps chest open log will show that some of them are obtained with impossible interval between servers, etc.

As much as I want to get in-game prizes, I cannot ignore the players who worked harder than me to get their chests. We do not deserve the honor of being listed as winners and I wish to withdraw from this event.

Once again I am sorry, BtB that I caused so much trouble during this event as a representer of 8 accounts.

Doomsayer,

Thanks for your honest accounting.  As a community-led initiative spanning multiple worlds with volunteers and imperfect measurement devices, NWPAD and the World Walker Challenge could never ensure 100% validity.  We don't have access to the tools or resources to do so.

The event largely ran on the trust and honor of the participants (both the server and the players).  I'm happy with how the community has responded and conducted themselves.  I applaud your clarifying remarks - further demonstration that the NWN community is the best in the world.

The issue of CD Keys is not one that NWPAD is going to touch.  The Challenge used it because as the time, it was considered the best representation of a unique player, while multiple logins are common.  I don't think any of us contemplated that there were dupe keys that circulated with any great frequency.  It is what it is and we can move forward with this new information.

Given this, we will have to reassess the methodology by which we count check-ins.  Looking over the list of winners, there are only a couple of CD Keys/winning accounts that are affected by multiple logins.  We will re-sort the list based on individual CD Key/Login combinations.  This will affect the standings, as there were a number of logins that were just shy of making the top 10.  At least 1 of those will likely become a winner.

This issue was raised by a participating admin and I thank him for that.  At the time, we quickly looked into the issue, clarified our tabulation logic, and I decided that, in my estimation (wrongly), the likelihood was small that these were different logins (especially given that a couple of the login names are similar).

Again, thanks to both for helping to identify and confirm the issue.  It is through efforts such as these that we can ensure the World Walker Challenge is the most fair and serves to achieve its purpose of strengthening and reinforcing the NWN community.

Obviously, hold off on announing any winners as we resort the list.  I will make updates to www.nwpad.weebly.com

Stay tuned.

Hey Doom,
I just wanted to say it was brave, and noble of you to come forward.

I also want to point out there are a few reasons why people may use publicly available CD keys. Not the least of which is the fact that the game is over 10 years old, and hanging on to game manuals (and subsequently CD keys) for over 10 years is not always possible. Thankfully I have not had to deal with this (I still have mine, although in tatters), but I don't imagine it is easy to retrieve them from Bioware (if it is even possible at all any more.) Hence the easiest (and possibly only) recourse many people have in that situation is to pull one off the net.

Now, unfortunately due to this, we have 2 imperfect methods of tallying winners for this event. The first way, which BtB and ACD presented initially, was good in that it ensured the same person using multiple player names (but the same CD key) would not be able to win more than once. But as we have seen it has also resulted in different people being grouped together, altering the real result. The second method, which I believe they are working on now, is to break up the counts by both cd key and player name. This could mean however that the same person could potentially win twice.

Given that, and in the spirit of camaraderie, I would hope any such player who after the recount, finds themselves to be a multiple winner, would inform BtB, and only redeem their prize for their highest winning standing, and give up their other winnings to the next lowest winner. Which might mean an additional winner or 2 may be added to the list after the recount results are released. We are all just a group of gamers, with a common interest (nwn 1), and I have faith that any such players who find them selves in this situation, will do the right thing and share their winnings.
Laz

I'm pretty sure that no one but me has the same cd-key. As it is the one that came with the game, and I have not given it to anybody. When the competition was announced, I downloaded all the haks and custom content needed to log in to all the worlds that were in this. I then proceeded to log on in to them all, but didn't even found the chest/check in board in most of them. I checked in almost daily to three worlds that had the check in chest/sign. Whether that was enough to win or not, I don't know. But it wasn't that much of a hassle anyhow, just two worlds beyond WoC, that I play in any case almost daily.

Honestly I am not really even sure how the public CD key thing works, or if they are truly unique. But regardless it should not matter any more now that those with the same key aren't getting grouped together. Hopefully the final results can be released soon. I already have people on my PW asking (actually they have been for a little while now.)

yeah, the CD key is only 8 characters long, generated by taking a subset of the unique CD key for the game. it's completely reasonable that there would be collisions. i didn't expect there to be so many in such a small dataset that we had.

but no worries. simple problem to overcome.

Alrighty, folks. Thanks for your patience. ACD and I have resorted the winner's list in light of the new information and I have updated the winner's list on the previous page.

Also, www.nwpad.weebly.com has been updated to reflect these winners.

Congrats to all the winners and participants!

This looks like an awesome event!
I wish I'd signed my own server (Dragon Myrth) up for this, had I seen it in time.

For those that participated: was this enough of a success for it to perhaps be set up for a recurring event, maybe once every few months or so?
If something like this were to happen again, I'd certainly be very interested!

i'm quite interested in some community feedback in the event as well.  i was slightly underwhelmed by the amount of new traffic my server got.  i only had 7 new users register in total.  i can either assume that:

a: i didn't advertise myself enough or in the right places.  it was a little late in the process before we really got organized enough to publish good place for all things related to the event.  all of my regular players who read my forums knew where to look, so maybe i didn't advertise my forum thread enough or in the right places to draw in other players.

b: just not that many people participated.  i'm curious to crunch some numbers to see if i can get an idea of how many players actually created toons on new servers, but i only have full logs from a couple servers.  i mostly got partial ones with just the entries.

actually, it's likely a combination of them both (for me at least).  i definitely could have organized myself better, and judging from the results of the logs, it didn't seem to me that there was much server crawling going on.  only a couple people got more entries than there were days of the event.  one of my players won just because he logged into my server each day to get the prize.

are people's bubbles really that small?  did they not want to go visit other servers?  did THEY not know how to find them all?  i think we could do with some feedback about it.

anyway, i rather enjoyed the event myself (and i know my players did, too).  i was hoping to make it a recurring event as well, and was secretly hoping to not have to wait an entire year to have another anniversary.  the effort (on my part at least) was pretty minimal.  the hardest part for me was to figure out where to move the chest each day.  but even that was fun to put it in places to get my players to explore more.

BtB put in a most of the work organizing it all, but i think that if we scale things back to just semi-regular server crawls (rather than a huge 10 year celebration) then the work will be less.  most of the groundwork has been laid for rules, how things work, etc.  and he won't have to work to get prizes.  i'm sure players will be happy to have just in game prizes and not need free codes and other promotions.

or maybe re-structure the event a little to spotlight a different server each day or week?  that way all participating servers won't be running things at the same time, players won't have to look up 12 different events threads each day to figure out what to do, etc.  if each server had its own day/week/whatever where everyone checks in, then maybe it would be easier for players?

Since I and my server unfortunately did not notice this in time to participate, I obviously cannot provide much relevant info, but I do believe the main problem is simply the lack of a proper community site.
We used to have the old proper NWN site, but after the switch to the Social.Bioware.com site, I think only a small percentage of the old NWN users moved with the new site.

I know I don't log in here, remotely as often as I did at the old site (hence why I didn't even notice this event before it was over), and I'd suspect the same was true with alot of the rest of the community.

For some reason, this doesn't count as a "go here to see what's happening in the community"-site, as the old place did.
Now, obviously we all have a large role in re-creating a common community here, but so far I think I may be exaggerating if I say 10% of my regular players have even signed up here...

The event itself seems great, and excactly what the community needs to be bound closer together, but as of now the whole community still seem to lack a "go-to" site.

As for the succes - to my knowledge, this was one of the first events of it's kind.  As with all things, it'll start small, and increase in growth if it's kept going. If this server-crossed activity is made to continue, it's success is sure to grow with it, I believe.

Great news! The first 2 download codes have been distributed to players on 2 different worlds.

If you haven't already, please update your in-game signage to list the winners and direct them to www.nwpad.weebly.com. Let's get these codes into the players' hands!

And remember, provided we have enough to go around (since we have 11 winners rather than the intended 10), PW's with winners who redeem for their in-game rewards will also get their very own free NWN Diamond download code. To make room for the incremental player winner, if a world receives 2 or more players redeeming in their world for in-game prizes, I will withold one of those codes from the world with the most player winners. In case of a tie, it will be determined by way of random draw.

Regarding lessons learned for the event, I too would love to hear about the different experiences and am willing to consolidate everyone's feedback; what worked well, what can be improved and what you would like to see added.

If there's interest among worlds for some version of a regular server crawl event, I'm all in.

Well my own personal experience as a player was fairly limited. Since becoming a mod owner/host my playing time has diminished substantially (but it is still my greatest joy as far as NWN.) But I was able to check out about 5 of the worlds (basically all of them that didn’t require a hak other than CEP.) When I was exclusively a player I was more willing to take the time to get all the files needed to check out a world, but I just don’t have time for that these days. What I found though was that a couple of the worlds didn’t even have the sign located in the loading area, or any information that I could find easily about the event. Granted I only spent about an hour give or take a half hour on each world, and mostly was just checking out some of the amazing building, stories, and features I saw.

As far as my experience as an aDMin, we had a few new accounts created. Mostly on the first day when the chest was in the loading area. After I started moving them around (even though the exact area was listed on the sign in the loading zone), the bulk of the player participation was from existing players. As far as them though, I got some very positive feedback, and requests to run a similar in house event in the future. Many people commented it was nice to have incentive for exploring areas off the beaten path, and it was fun for me too to see some friendly competition amongst some of the players. Some people really got into it.

200+ player participants, and 9 participating worlds, is kinda small considering the nwn 1 community at large, but as perXX82 mentioned, a lot of the community doesn’t check this site frequently, if at all. Given that, I would say it was a strong showing, and I suspect if something like this was done in the future, it would be even stronger. That being said though, it was a fair amount of work for me personally just being a participating aDMin given all of my other interests and responsibilities. It was well worth it though, and Av3 would participate in something like this again, perhaps next year, but I am not likely to go through all the effort on a regular monthly basis I don’t think.

However, there is no reason PW aDMins can’t band together, as a collective, and have certain events like this from time to time. I certainly would be interested in being part of such a group, as long as participation in such events was opt in, and not mandatory.

It’s one of the beautiful things that came out of this, which was the idea of PWs banding together, and doing something collaboratively. And this event proved it can work. I have some further ideas about a NWN 1 universe, PW collective, or what have you, but as mentioned before that should really be the topic of another discussion.

Thanks to gog.com for supporting this, ACD, and especially BtB for all you guy's hard work putting this fantastic event together.

Cheers,
Laz

We've now distributed 5 of the 11 codes to the winners. Still looking for the following winners:

Nappi99
gelmar
Ramir Thel
Deege
Ramana Jala
Rayven Nightkind

If you see these players on your server, get their CD Key info and e-mail address so I can send them their prize. And remember, if the player wants to redeem for winnings on your server, let me know that too so I can track that.

Congrats to the winners.

Hiya All, I was "ZenBlade " in the competition and have just redeemed my NWN1 Diamond Edition from "Good old Games".
I really enjoyed taking part, and i am hoping to install CEP 2.4 if that is the latest, and be better prepared for any future cross world events if they happen. I was very lucky to be amongst the winners, as i was reluctant to risk my setup on Dalakora by tweeking my setup to include hakpacks and a different CEP Pack.
A very big thankyou to BelowTheBelt and dood ACD and the other players and people involved in this thread and in other places.
I play NWN most days, and yet i still need to invest considerable effort in order to acheive the levels that i aspire to on my main stomping ground Dalakora as xp is on the slow side there, so i cant promise to spend much time visiting other worlds for now.
I followed much of what was posted on this thread, but didn't feel it was my place to post anything until now Posted Image
I am not sure myself if we are quite ready for "Monthly" events yet Posted Image
I will continue to follow  this thread with interest, it is in my "favorites" Posted Image

We've now distributed 8 of the 11 NWPAD free NWN Diamond codes. Only looking for or need to confirm the following winners:

Nappi99 (need in-game verification)
gelmar
Deege

I've heard back from a few of the winners that the NWN Diamond download process from GoG.com is relatively painless and everything has worked as expected.

Please try to find the last 2 winners who haven't made contact. These codes are buring virtual holes in my virtual pockets!

Thanks!

Only looking for the following player at this time: Deege.

All other player awards have been distributed. We can now begin providing server awards. I will have to hold 1 server award in reserve to account for the server that the above player will redeem in.

The following servers had winners redeem:
The World of Aenea
Aventia 3
World of Caenyr
Ravenloft - Prisoners of the Mist
Dalakora

If you haven't already, PM me with a contact address for your server and I'll send out the codes.
