that depends, if Shepard dying meant no relays going KABOOM, no Normandy crash and having the Galaxy a new age to rebuild instead of a crappy Dark Age i would be ok with that. although i would like an option for shepard to live in this new age of rebuilding Galactic Society

There should be as many options re: the future as there are Shepards, really.

My sole survivor Shepard is going to survive. I got 100% in multiplayer just to make this happen.

My renegade Shepard is now God Emperor of the Reaper fleet. Kind of ran out of pathways my other Shepards to take, though. Oh, I miss Dragon Age: Origins.

No, I'm not. Call me old fashioned, but I just don't see why Shepard can't be rewarded with a bit of happiness at the end of this journey. I knew it was a possibility, and if Shepard died in a way that made sense, I would eventually accept it ,but I hoped I would at least be given the option of keeping Shepard alive in the end.

"The hero must die" trope is annoying and cliche, and (for example), I'm glad JK Rowling resisted the myriad calls for her to off Harry Potter.

I'm OK with Shep dying if you didn't adequately prepare, as you know, one of the 16 "different" endings... but if you did completionist playthroughs and made your galactic armada as strong as possible and engineered the Crucible to perfection, you should survive.

(And I did, so there's that. Sorry EDI and Geth. Gotta watch out for Numero Uno.)

Hmm, it's tough to say. I'd be fine with Shepard dying if it was for a good reason but if the endings stay as bleak and cruel as they currently are I'd say forget self-sacrifice, I wants my Shenko.

Edit: Voted 'no' since my answer is neither 'yes' nor 'I don't care'.

Shepard dying is fine by me. I get it. I don't like the mass relays being destroyed. Because any content that BioWare puts out in the future can't be in the future of the ME world...unless it's a one dimensional idea.

We've all had a taste of traveling the galaxy...the only way they can hold onto that would be to do something that occurred in the past, during or before Shepard's time.

I don't think I'd mind a game with Saren in it, though...

Hard question. (yes I answered the poll too) I don't really want her to die... but I understand that sacrifice might need to be made. I don't think it feels right in the context of the present ending though, and I'm not going to get fully into that, but suffice to say that the choice being what it is, the death as result doesn't feel heroic the way I would want it to in order to accept her/my death.

I would much prefer her not to die, obviously, but if it must be then I do wish it was a better death, perhaps with friends nearby who might know what happened and care and offer half a kind word for the saving of the entire friggin universe before I/she passes into the great void, y'know?

More than willing to die. Now the question is did I believe dying to be the only option? No. Was it the only option presented? Yes. Had they stuck to the decision formula, Shep would have interacted with the AI instead of being a follower of it and its doctrine. I expected a blaze of glory ending if it came down to death, not a lukewarm nodding my head yes ending. Realistically, Shep didn't survive all the games by simply agreeing to what was told to him/her.

The poll lacks this option.

Meh, this poll also does not provide enough context. It only has a binary Yes/No. For me, it would depend on the overall tone of the sacrifice.

It really depends.

If the death makes sense and doesn't feel like the cruel hand of the writer screwing with me, then yes. But if it's done just to add DRAMA!!!!!!1, then no.

That said, I'm really getting tired of "The Hero must DIE!" trope. It's overused to the point of being cliched. Shepard's earned a happy ending. Let the man retire and rest with his love interest and friends.

Honestly, I'd like to see him help Tali build her house. I didn't even romance her, but ending the series with him helping his friend build a house on her newly acquired home world, while his LI and child run around would be perfect.

the game series is Shepard's story, and Shepard is Bioware's creation, so they can Kill him/her if they want. i have no right in forcing them to keep a hero they would want to kill alive.

The book was released almost five years ago mate. There's a statue of limitations on this stuff.

There must be a way to survive, and have a happy ending. After all we were promised 16 endings, if not even one is happy, why the hell have 16 endings?

And more important, Shepard deserves to have a happy and calm life.

Indeed. Statute of Limitations on "omg spoilers!" is commonly acknowledged to be one year.

To bad BioWare said Mass Effect (3) was co-created with the fans. They had to know this statement would come back to bite them in the ass.

Yes I was fine with it. But it was unfair for those who are uncomfortable with Shepard dying to have destroy as the only option in which they can survive.

If Shepard dies while blowing up the Reapers and not killing the Geth or EDI I'm perfectly fine with it. Hell at least that way she can acutally die for something she believes in and not in a way that pleases glow boy. Speaking from my femshep persepective of course.
