I have been thinking does anyone else find it odd that ME has tasteful intimate scenes yet Dragon Age does not. Sure different games but the name Bioware is on both games.

Never played Fire Emblem I take it ? Well given that the particular one with the relationship/weddings never got released outside of Japan that would not be a suprise. Supports for friends fighting together is in all of them though.

Make the actual the LI as weird, interesting, cool as you like but make the connection you feel to them real and its not huge acts of love, dramatic is fine but not constantly. If your stuck and don't know what to do next don't say something over the top say something simple or a hug or a kiss. The simple things is what will touch the heart.

It's a pretty common mechanic in Japanese stuff. I've only really seen Binary Domain carry it over, but that might be Japanese too, not sure. That one is really good, the AI of the squad changes depending on your relationship with them. Be a dick and you will find yourself soloing levels while they don't do much of anything. Get their trust and they will take care of most of the threats or suggest weak points and stuff like that.
Dragons Dogma does it too althogh I'm not sure how that one works yet. The AI appears to learn over time as it does stuff.

Honestly don't care about the sex scenes. Don't care what we see, hear or..i dunno smell? What i want from a romance is a real connection. Make the player fall in love with their LI, like when Alistair was like "Its the sanest thing I've ever done" Urgh just killed me! I was close to crying.

I couldn't agree more. Not interested in having sex with a character I barely care about so that *ding* I have achieved a relationship. I'd rather have no sex scene at all if it means precious resources will be spent on cinematics that are inconsistent with the depth of the actual relationship.

CDPR could not have nailed my type any better with Triss unless they gave her a soft Irish accent.Even so I did not love Triss any further than I was Geralt. Loving pixels is kinda weird ,so if the developers set out with that goal, they are going to fail badly.
This is why there is a gameplay aspect to improving romances, it has more than one purpose. Kind of like Harvest Moon. Sure there are some people who go all gooey over the romances, but there are many more who do them for the free wife/child labour on the farm.

This just made me lol!
Although I must admitt I like it when you can have a romance in a game not just for the more practical reasons. The whole thing has to make sense tough and really do not need anything explicit to see. Think even game characters should have some privacy

It's much the same as I said on the thread about character death. You can't rely on emotion, but you can hit/reward the player through gameplay near 100%.
Underwear sex makes me cringe, other than that I'm not really bothered. Witcher2 or fade to black don't care which.

Firstly, it's definitely great writing and not the pixels that makes you fall in love with a character. That's exactly why we need more great writing and not animated nipples if DAIII romances are going to be worth our time. I absolutely fell in love with Laurie from "Little Women" and never had a visual for him, much less a naked one (though Christian Bale suited me just fine years later when I saw the movie.)
I agree that it's much less creepy to love a character than it is to be, y'know, loving a fictional animated naked representation of a human sexually.
Secondly, I absolutely love Harvest Moon and I smile inside every time you use it as an example. I've been itching to say that.

Agreed. Fade to black or whatever game that isn't explicit is always better than seeing people in their underwear. Suggested on another thread that had this subject that they could ly under a blanket f.e. as an alternative.
Saw the romance scene on youtube from ME3 and must say (again) that that was made in a way I can really live with; very tastefully made.

Yeah, I know. Someone from BW explained that then on the thread but maybe if they use another/new engine?
Probably not for DA3 but if the franchise continues they will maybe get a new engine for DA4?

SIMS 3 animates blankets quite well. Or is that apples and oranges?

In the end, if you constantly switch protagonists, to what effect does the romance effect them? How did meeting an old lover of the Warden affect Hawke in any way?
