I'm pretty sure Bioware have some weird attachment to their "untouched" games. From the things i've heard them say, they have more of a problem with the fact that we're messing with their artistic integrity, rather than the difficulty of releasing the toolset.

If this is true, BioWare has changed a lot since the old days, as they were very verbally supportive of the modding community for Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II.  In fact, David Gaider himself even contributed a mod to it called "Ascension" for Throne of Bhaal.

Very sad to see these changes in BioWare.

There was a time when the Dragon Age series was meant to be a "spiritual successor" to the Baldur's Gate franchise.  This seems to no longer be the case.  Baldur's Gate 1 and 2 were highly successful, critically acclaimed PC games with no console feel to them whatsoever.  They had a modding scene that thrived looong after the original release of the games, for about 12 years I would say.  I myself still go back to the BG series thanks to mods and always will as long as I live and game.  This sort of longevity will not be the case with Dragon Age 2, sadly, unless Bioware releases something that makes modding that game much easier.   Doesn't look like that will ever happen though.

Don't get me wrong.  I love many of the other advancements, like the same sex relationships, and David Gaider can still write a great story and I think he and his team did a great job with what EA allowed them to have, but its just not what Dragon Age Origins or the BG games were.

That being said, when EA came on the scene, they seemed to have expunged everything that made the Dragon Age franchise a spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate.  EA doesn't care at all about Baldur's Gate and how loved that franchise was, because it was one of the BioWare titles they couldn't absorb into their own catalogue.  They just care about the "bottom line".  Dragon Age 2 is very consoley and highly unmoddable.  :(

I agree it is a bit sad to see this devolution of Bioware. But one would think that having a modding community is ultimatly a good thing for EA and Bioware. By having a active modding community people will keep playing the game for a longer time and that will give EA and Bioware more time to do what they love to do; making money of DLC. Now, i stopped playing games on my MAC many years ago, Baldur's gate enhanced edition will change that however, so it don't affect me.

I am very much looking forward to BG Enhanced. The team working on it seems to have their heads on straight too, as they plan on making sure the game is nice and moddable. Ultimately time will tell, but I am very optimistic.
