Why didn't the scientists just blow up the Citidel?
They'd already figured out that it was the key to the next reaper cycle and the protheans were already screwed at this point.
Why didn't they simply destroy the Citidel and keep the reapers from possibly ever returning?
Just a minor nitpick that I thought out...

Because they rendered the Reapers use of the Citadel defunct when they sabotaged it, atleast that's what I picked up from vigil.

Shepard and his squad of up to 12 people destroyed an entire space station housing an incomplete reaper....with a bomb made from a box of scraps.
If those 12 smart enough to alter the Keeper's eons-old code, why couldn't they work out a way to cause the citadels core to malfunction and blow up?
Like I said...minor nitpick so it doesn't really matter.

I'm talking about the Ilos prothean team, not the empire. During the war, the reapers controlled the citadel, I was talking about after the war.
And yes I did.
And yes I did.
