Vanguard's against Nova - VAN - Show your support

Welcome, I bring a message to strike out the cancer imbeded within our vanguard tree. This "nova" is an afront to the very spirit of what it means to be a wtf melee pawnzor.
So it began when me3 started I went with vguard. After hours I realized this spec was truely trivialized to a one trick pony with nova at the root of it all. "Charge/Nova" repeat win. Even at instanity this would work pretty well with proper squad support. The spec was sadly boring. Instead of a truely "high risk / high reward" in me2 was a circus act in me3.
Then I made a play through without nova at all... /tear. Welcome back Mr. Vanguard. Is that a shotgun or are you happy to see me? I know there must be more folks who feel the same. Discuss!

I also got my CAR back, so now Bug Man can run around in his usual gettup. Yay.

Now in ME3 I can charge and nova all I wish, but I agree that charging and shooting is more fun, although I occasionally nova stupid crap (like the damn ravager bugs) just because I enjoy the yelling. I might try to revive the distance Vanguard in a future playthrough and aim for Biotic Detonations Everywhere.

I don't want to rain on your parade dude, but the Vanguard has been a one-trick-pony since ME2. Sure, you could try and play it like something else, but you were gimping yourself if you weren't playing a Heavy Charge/Inferno/Squad Cryo melee machine.
The classes generally feel simplified compared to what they were in ME2 and in the Vanguard's case, when you simplify a one-trick-pony, you get.... a boring one-trick-pony.
Still, as with a lot of things in ME3, while the challenge has been brought down a notch, I happen to like Nova. The Vanguard was supposed to be a class that combined weapons and biotics at short ranges to wtfpwn everything, and its nice to have something other than a shotgun to use.

Charge, shotgun, and energy drain. I used pull and shockwave a lot.
Nova was bearly touched.
For me the idea was to keep my barrier up as much as possible. I didn't use nova much because I found it boring. I didn't use nova much because I struggle as a vanguard as it is whilst keeping my barrier up. I managed single player in the end on insanity. But I'm more of an adept and engineer type player (caster).
My vanguard in multiplayer
Bronze: Charge and Nova spam
Silver: Charge and shockwave
Gold: Rarely touched Charge (except as an emergency barrier restoration power), used shockwave 80% of the time and as for Nova (only used as a finisher).
It took me ages to get used to Nova. It keeps getting me killed.

charge/nova combo doesnt work on silver or gold difficulty.
Aside from it leaving you open to attack, its damage doesnt scale up like biotic/tech combo explosions do.
Even if you spec "half blast" for survivability, shields dont last long on silver+ if you are taking fire.

Edit: Just for reference I don't use Vanguard in Multiplyer.

Actually I hit it once accidentally on Benning, which didn't do anything but deplete my shields.
Personally I think they should have made it trip a cooldown like Tech Armor or those powers do when you burst or purge them. And certainly not give you crazy bonus to cooldown if you take that evolution. Sure that would make it more situational and more dangerous to use... that would be the point.

That said, Nova is an awesome addition to the Vanguard's arsenal. Just a few minor tweaks (like reducing insane power cooldowns and removing Nova invincibility frames) and I now love Charge + Nova again.

It definitly makes Vanguards seem like the most brutal, violent class, what with all of the battle cries and roars of super saiyan rage.
That said, I prefer to put my points into fitness for all that sexy, sexy, SEXY Melee Damage boosting.
Falcon Punch FTW

Lolwhut. Novaguards are unkillable when played right. Strongest vanguard for Gold by far.
I'm with JaegerBane on this one. I don't find "Charge+Nova" remotely different in terms of difficulty or tedium to "Charge+Shotgun w/Inferno." The fact, however, that I can now do both has doubled the variety and thus the appeal of the class. Add in the fact that Shockwave is actually useful now and we can pack snipers or Carnage from jump for effective long-range soldiery, and the class is what it should be again, incorporating the best parts of the class from both ME1 and ME2.

You use Nova with barrier/armor lv 6 evo, take down shields, charge, get barrier bakc, nova, wash , rinse, reapeat.
I can solo brutes, atlas', anything i want with that combo, but everytime i go charge + nova i get raped.

Drell Vanguard ftw
Charge, Melee, RUN
i think the drell has the best combo of melee speed + strength, it's awesome. Now that i have the pistol melee bonus, going to be lots of fun.

that want an easier to play charge happy vanguard. If you
don't like it, it's really easy to set up a single player vanguard
that is very effective, with no points in nova.
Personally, I liked vanguards in ME2. Of all things, the multiplayer
asari and drell vanguards are pretty close to that playstyle. Really
fun classes in multiplayer. For the drell, it's fun to set things up
so that you charge in and explode them. And for the asari, seems
most fun when you're trying to charge on cooldown, with lots of
disciple fueled fire explosions.
For single and multiplayer, nova is just an option. Let people that
enjoy it have fun.

If it's multiplayer, if they're remotely competent, why do you care what others use?
