From the latest balance changes:

 - (Silver) Increased chance to sync kill players from 50% to 60%
- (Gold) Increased chance to sync kill players from 60% to 80%

Does this mean instant kill?

Yeah pretty much.

It's annoying and stupid. If it didn't take you out of the round it would be fine. But unfortunately it's an end-all thing.

Yes.

But I believe that change is for Altas only. Banshee, Brutes and Phantoms remained unchange? I think.

Atlas instakills are the easiest to predict, IMO.

They should bump it to 90% for Atlas.

Also, I've always wondered what the chance is for brutes.

Seems pretty damn low to me...which is appropriate since they spend a lot of time in close proximity with players.

yeah, me too.

i think that is what it means. strange decision to increase the chance. if they wanted to make them harder, i would way rather have gotten more damage, dr or health than a better chance to kai leng you.

They are so slow that only vanguards will ever be close to them. I've only been instant killed be an atlas once, becuse it trapped me in a cornor where i could not get away.

Only Banshee is True-Random, as far as I know. Everything else will instagib you after a staggering melee.

This change just makes Altas more likely to grab you when you're in melee range, but I really don't see anyone would want to go toe-to-toe against a giant mech, except Kroguards.

I've been wondering about this too. What's the etymology of the term "sync kill"? I wasn't able to find it on google.

Ive been wondering too, and the only thing I came up with is maybe it means when a synchronous event, such as a pause between animations, occurs for both your avatar and the atlas/banshee/brute, it does a die roll on the possibility of an instagib.

Not sure if that makes sense.

I'm glad it wasn't a Banshee or a Phantom.

Atlas Does the ground smash, after this he can do the instakill, the % of him doing this is increased.

Does this mean banshees can drag people from another game completely and insta-kill them?

That's the way they are going.

Banshees are experimental and don't actually have a set percentage. they're "sync" kill is to come at random which is why sometimes you can punch them and walk away without dying while other times you can run within a 2m radius of them then get like 10m away just to be dragged in by darth banshee and killed ....

But yea it's about the instakills and how often the ATLAS does it.

It's when Banshees go POW and you die.

I'm hoping that Atlases still only insta-gib after one of their ground pounds.

Or else my Super-Über-Vanguard-Atlas-Containment-Procedure just got invalidated.

If that percentage refers to the probability that Atlases will insta-kill after a ground pound... then it doesn't really matter, since I get the hell away from them if they do that.

Presumably it stands for "synchronization kill." I'm guessing that it refers to how there's an enforced link (animation and control) between killer and killee rather than just running out of health.

It's because the animation locks both the user and victim into an animation.
Whenever you cover grab an enemy, get instakilled, or (to a far lesser extent) lunge in with a heavy melee, that's a sync.

Sync kill was increased only for Atlases, their insta kills are very predictable and easy to avoid. Haven't seen an Atlas insta kill for a while and last time I saw it, it was a manguard charge, nova, nova spamming Atlas at close range for dozen or so seconds...

I am quite used to charging atlases with kroguard, shooting few times and charging again, always worked fine. But recently I charged and even before I had a chance to back up I got crushed. Then I realized I just switched weapons to burn off some of the 20+ smg rail amps, so my cd was actually 200% and not usual 180%, means the first melee slam animation didn't finish when I was back in melee again... at least I hope it was worked that way, because there was noone else at melee range.

Brutes will only Sync Kill if their staring directly at you I think it's a 50-70% chance if they are.

Fun useless facts: Banshee's only sync kill when they have that blue aura around them, Atlases only sync kill after a melee, and Phantoms only sync kill after they do an attack with thier katana.

pretty sure the blue aura theory on the banshee OHK has been disproven.
