Wondering what other forumers opinion is on this? Is it something you'd like to see in DA3 or would you like a definitive ending with an epilogue and no chance to keep playing until DLC or an expansion is released (save from starting a new game or loading an old save of course).

I'm on the line with this. In RPGs I love being able to keep on running around and exploring the world after I've finished off the main story. Just leveling up my character and exploring anything I might have missed. I also think it makes it easier to add DLC to the game because you can just jump onto your character after downloading it and go do the new content, as opposed to having to start a new game or transfer your character and launch the DLC like an entirely seperate game. On the other hand though not letting players continue playing after the end means they can make huge, world changing events take place because they don't have to worry about reflecting those events in the world after the game's ended. It also means they can do things like an epilogue that let them expand a lot on what happened after the main story finishes.

So at the moment I don't know what I want them to do with DA3. I guess it depends on what sort of story they want to tell and how they want to end it. One thing I hope they don't do is what ME3 has done where you're given a save before the final mission and if you want to keep playing after the games ended you play from that point in time. I don't really like that, though maybe that's because of the way ME3 ends and not because of the actual system itself.

Given that the endings of both DA games so far have caused major changes in the game environment (to be as un-spoilery as possible) I don't think running around the world after the end of the game is very likely. It just doesn't seem to fit with BioWare's storytelling style.

I guess they could introduce an arena mode or something, but I wouldn't have any interest in it.

Only if its a free roam game (but I want the Dragon Age games to be more like traditional Rpgs, i.e more linear, I have TES and Fallout and other games for when I want free roam...)

Arena mode might be a good idea and would add replay value but after the quality of DA 2 I think it'd be better if they focused on just the single player of DA 3 and don't bother with any side features...

I wouldn't be interested in playing after I've run out of content.

Depends. If it is more open like Skyrim, then it might be worth it. Otherwise, the game is effectively devoid of content anyway by the time you get to the end.

I agree if they can employ a radiant quest system I'd continue to play. But, even then, you'd quickly get sick of 'oh Hawke, can you run and get this item and bring it back to me' etc. Even with Skyrim I tired of it after about 4 quests...

Games like Tales of Vesperia not only let you free roam after you finish the game, but there is a bonus dungeon that unlocks after doing so. While other games let you free roam after completing the main story, the Dragon Age games have yet to allow the player to do so. I don't see DA3 being any different. Dungeons don't repopulate, enemies don't respawn, and before finishing off the main quest, there usually isn't anything left to do. If you've forgotten any side quests, you're out of luck.

I'm game with what they did with ME2. Basically, once the final boss dies, you're free to continue playing to finish off sidequests and stuff you missed, but you have to keep in mind everything you see actually happened in the past. Like when Kasumi's DLC came out and you recruited her to "fight the Collectors" even though that fight was over when you beat the game originally.

Bonus dungeons are awesome btw. Just putting that out there. They don't have to be the most costy thing to implement either. Create a few, smaller maps, say it's in the Fade and let the player progress level by level, deeper and deeper - all the while completing randomised objectives on these small maps.

I think its a concept that is more suited to open world games like Skyrim. I'd prefer DA3 to give me the huge world changing event at the end, and then the credits screen.

Nay to:
killing blow lands on main villain in end battle -> freeze -> credit texts.

This is what Bioware, despite loud protests, have served gamers through a varity of games, from BG saga to Awakenings. - Please, please stop this!!

My strong suggestion is to let the gamer finish up, and walk out of the area, before any transition.

Secondly, an end setting, like in DA:O, should follow.
Thirdly, play the end cinema and aftermath.
Fourth, credits.

I lose interest in a game after the main story is complete, so I will say nay.

Without having a goal for my character to achieve, whether it is personal or "for the greater good", there is no reason to continue afterwards. Looking for enemies to kill, for no reason except the thrill of the hunt, is like a hunter who shoots deer, pheasants and other animals, without any desire to take the meat to feed himself or others.

If there was a toolset to enable to player to load the post-game save and step through the door into a fan-made adventure, I would say "Go for it!" Since there isn't and according to Mark Darrah, there won't be, I say "No." BioWare isn't about open-world exploration. They're about powerful stories and big finales. They need to return to their roots. Not every game has to be Skyrim. Not every game should be.
