Thought it'd make for an interesting topic to discuss. What's your take on this?

"However, Microsoft said that the ruling did not mean that its products would be taken off retailers' shelves because a U.S. district court in Seattle has granted Microsoft a preliminary injunction against Motorola to prevent the phone maker from enforcing any German court order."
US company, US laws. Lol Germany.
"But following complaints by Microsoft and Apple the EU competition authorities have opened two investigations into whether Motorola has been over-charging for the use of its patents in their rival products.
Technology companies have invested billions of dollars in buying up patent portfolios that they can use defensively or offensively against rivals and spent still more money litigating in the United States and Europe.
Last week a judge for the U.S. International Trade Commission also said Microsoft infringed Motorola Mobility's patents for technology used in the Xbox's wireless internet connection and video compression functions.
However, Wednesday's ruling is also expected to have little immediate impact for Microsoft's wider European distribution operations as it has already moved its regional software distribution centre to the Netherlands from Germany in anticipation of adverse judgments in the patent trial.
Germany has in recent months become a major battleground in the global patent war between makers of mobile phones, tablet computer devices and their operating software as court actions there have proved to be relatively cheap and speedier than in other jurisdictions.
Earlier this year German courts forced Korea's Samsung Electronics to stop selling its Galaxy 10.1 tablet in the country and told Apple to de-activate "push" notification features for some customers in Germany".
Smells like Motorola is being an Ass, and the pretty much only trade pact nature of the EU assures that X-boxs European Market isn't hurt.
Edit, this also affects Windows 7, a Whole OS in large use. So I don't see the German Law actully lasting or going into effect. The judge is obviously a moron.
Edit 2. Lulz watch no one read this.

Not that I am affected by this since I already have a 360 and definitely won't install Windows 7 on my Mac. And since the whole thing seems to be on hold right now anyway nobody else is actually affected. However that doesn't stop me from thinking that it is stupid.

YouTube lost a court procedure about Music Videos, their copyrights and marketing which will affect all Music Video platforms in Europe in future for sure.
And now this - I was like O_O as I heard it on the Radio, and happy that I have already Windows 7 and NO XBox

This reminds me of when GameCube controller sales were banned in America when this guy in Texas drew up the design for a very similar looking device, took Nintendo to court about it and won. Thing is the man never actually filed a patent for his device. AndI think I remember hearing he thought the device up AFTER Nintendo made a patent for the controllers during the GC's development.
Just throwing that out there I guess.
What!? How the hell did that even work? That would be so difficult to prove in the UK patent system.

I can see America doing something like this 20 years from now, unfortunately. It's headed that way. It's supposedly called "progress".
There is a very high bar for injunctive relief in US courts. I imagine if there were a similar outcome in the ongoing dispute in Washington (Microsoft is claiming that Motorola smartphones are infringing on its patents relating to "synchronizing email, calendars and contacts, scheduling meetings, and notifying applications of changes in signal strength and battery power"), the court would likely impose damages rather than an injunction.
