Yeah GI just made it official.

Now those rumours can get laid to rest.

http://www.gameinfor...lls-online.aspx

I have little to say about this, other then. If you want to turn your succesful Fantasy RPG franchise into an mmo, you will make alot of your long time fans. Dissapointed.

Your thoughts?

Why would it be disappointing for anyone who is not into MMOs?

The BGS team will continue making singleplayer TES games. It's a completely different group working on the MMO.

I'd prepared some images in advance for this day. Let me show you.

Welcome to business. After World of warcraft, I have no intention of touching an MMO for a long, long time. Preferably never. So ES Online is a pass.

Did you read the OP?

I said ''Long time fans'' aka the players who have being with Bethesda since Elderscrolls 1 2 3 ect ect.

Not the players who have never played MMOs before.

The good news is Skyrim wrapped up my interest in the series, so I can't really say I'm that bummed. Welcome to business. After World of warcraft, I have no intention of touching an MMO for a long, long time. Preferably never. So ES Online is a pass.

This.

But McGeek's dream has come true

I would like them to focus on their strengths instead of trying to compete in other areas. Same thing with BioWare really.

Elder Scrolls Online: NO THANKS.

Like Dominus I also prepaired pictures for this day. Meaning I stole them from the Internets.

Here you will see my persona holding the ES series.

I'm sure game informer will go

"OMG THIS IS BEST THING EVER YOU NOT THINK SO YOU STUPID BIG STUPID!"

As for me I'm burned out on MMO's permantly. And seeing a 2nd series I love being killed by an MMO...

Well all I have to say is.

Thanks Mass Media and Corporate sponsership. Killing  Anime wasn't enough,  good music, TV,  Star Wars, but now your stomping on gaming in general?

Thanks. Soon I will have so much money saved up as I can't find nothing I want to spend it on.

You can always invest in real estate. That'll solve your money problems :)

lol maybe more profitable to be an arms trader.

But really between dumbing down, cookie cutting, and just marketing that goes on. Most mediums now are either hard to find if your a "niche" market. Or its crap.

Then you look at other hobbies, thanks to land grabs, most outdoor stuff is now hobbies for the rich, or at risk of being arrested/shut off for "enviromental" concerns.

Or they are hobbies with such a small Yes man Group, that major sellers can charge what they want which is often high. Then take rising energy and utility costs. Weapons might be a wise investment, or learning how to make toys out of wood.

And Docs say you only should spend two hours a day in front of any electronic device (like TV or PC). So I guess I'll just use my money to be an arms smuggeler and a dirt farmer lulz.

Edit not that I'm not that worried about it myself really. Just ES has droped the ball on this one. And investors, well, they make nothing better for the most.

Yeah, well, I didn't really explain what I meant when I said "solve".

Anyway, there are plenty of good hobbies left. I used to play pen and paper RPGs for example. Nothing wrong with those. Grab yourself Advanced Dungeons and Dragons 2nd edition, and you're good to go (skip all the new books, it didn't get any better anyway). I wouldn't mind playing again to be honest.

As for games, do what you can to support good efforts by developers. Actually PAY for good games for example instead of pirating them. Or if you like free games, make a donation or a contribution. I'm sure people will make good games if there is a market for them.

There are many longtime fans of the Elder Scrolls games who have never played MMOs before.

At any rate, it's a different division, so it's not taking resources or employees away from BGS.

Meh. The Elder Scrolls with all the sandbox elements removed from it won't be much of an Elder Scrolls game. Because lets face it, the only way a game where you can make any character you desire work is if you don't have to balance it against what other players are doing.

Once you add in some sort of highly restricted class system in, you're really just left with the story and lore...which isn't really that exciting on its own.

One of the original writers for Mass Effect is at Zenimax Online. I'm interested.

I know it's not the same division, but it still goes to show that more and more effort is being put into multiplayer, and everybody wants to be a part of it.

That other division could have been working on an excellent singleplayer game instead. But no.

It's not because I won't allow them to try something new really, it's about taking the world and lore your fans have come to love and twisting it into an MMO abomination (and this isn't new at all). I genuinely hope it will be a good game though. If they prove me wrong, I won't complain.

Very good point. It would either be a very poor MMO or something entirely different from a classic Elder Scrolls game.

That doesn't make any sense at all. Zenimax Online Studios was created in 2007 specifically to develop online MMO games. The head of that division is Matt Firor, who made Dark Age of Camelot and AFAIK he has no experience making single player games.

Obviously the work that ZOS has been doing had no effect on the development of BGS games released during this time period, such as Fallout 3 and Skyrim, just as id's work on RAGE and DOOM4 or Arkane's work on Dishonored do not hinder the work done by BGS.

It's like you are trying to argue that no business anywhere in the world should ever be allowed to make MMOs. In a free market, instead you must vote with your wallet. If MMOs weren't generating enough revenues, then no one would have interest in developing them.

If they have ponies and or unicorns I'll play it, otherwise no. No need to get upset over it. If the ponies are pretty pastels then there might be a lifetime subscription. Custom weddings would totally rock as well.

So they couldn't have spent their resources on making a singleplayer game instead? That's what I meant by the way. Obviously you don't hire an MMO team to develop a singleplayer game. But if they hadn't wanted to spend their resources on an MMO, they wouldn't have hired that particular team in the first place.

I'm not at all arguing they are not allowed to make MMOs. I'm just not happy with the trend towards making everything online somehow. I know they'll still make singleplayer games, and that's good. But I can't help but think it's a wasted opportunity when they make a new TES game and it's an MMO. Particularly because I'm sick of MMOs by now.

In any case, they're making it whether I like it or not. But I do hope it won't be a half-assed money grab based on the popularity of the TES series.
