N7 Crusader, a useless shotgun?

For one, it weighs a ton. On low level characters it alone is enough to bump the weight into the red zone. Sure, higher levels might weigh less, but when you only have a one in four or five chance to get it every couple weeks, you're probably not going to see much weight upgrades.
Second, is the rounds and clip size. This gun fires one slug per shot, and has four shots per clip. Now I don't expect to deal claymore level damage and have a fair clip, but it seems kind of strange to have this kind of slug per clip ratio when you compare it to...
The damage. Even with a shotgun barrel upgrade and using my lvl 18 Krogan Sentinel, the damage from one shot to a Geth in the chest is enough to drop it down to around 30% health. And it doesn't matter if you hit this guy from across the map, or point-blank, it's the exact same damage. So unless you can pull off a string of headshots (which isn't particularly hard given the incredibly high accuracy of the weapon) you're looking at 2-4 kills for a single clip...on gold. I can do better than that with my Geth Plasma Shotgun and it's only lvl 2, and I'd have around the same accuracy, probably a little less.
Probably the only plus about this weapon is that it has some powerful natural penetration, but you deal about as much damage as you would do if you hit the guy outside of cover, unless you manage to hit him in the head.
So honestly, if nothing else my Geth Plasma Shotgun blows the Crusader out of the water in terms of effectiveness on the battlefield, and is worthless on characters you want to try and spam powers with, unless you have some serious weight buffs.

Does anyone else have any other opinions? Because honestly, if I wanted to be popping headshots with a gun, I'd pick a heavy pistol or sniper (and some snipers even weigh less than this shotgun while dealing more damage). And I haven't tried to put the shredder mod on it, but I'm not sure how that would do since it already has penetrating power, if not bullet power.

Compare it to the Valiant. The Valiant has less weight, more damage per shot, higher fire rate, less recoil, and a quicker reload. I don't know how anyone in their right mind would call it balanced.
Edit: never mind, it does slightly more damage per shot than the Valiant. That tiny amount doesn't score any extra one shot kills, so it's insignificant.

I noticed you compared it to the GPS. I really only use my Krogan sentinel (melee) with GPS. The crusader can be a bit tough to use agaist the regular enemies (accuracy is too high) but against guardians and atlases there's nothing better. The GPS is 100% useless agaist atlases and guardians.
I would like it if I could carry both at the same time but at this point I'm leaning towards the crusader.

Better question: If the accuracy bar is not filled, is there actually any purpose to attaching a smart choke it it?

That being said, I slapped a Crusader on my Krogan Sentinel once to try it out, and I wasn't impressed.

a nice long range accurate shotgun would be a playstyle i would enjoy.
But I got the Valiant instead so I aint complaining.

If you're looking at it like a sniper, you're doing it wrong. It's no shotgun, it's a carnifex that fell into a pool of radioactive liquid and came out as a large two-handed gun that shoots prefectly straight.

Nope, it already fires single slugs with pinpoint accuracy. Something like AP mods for increased AP or reserve clip mod. Wouldn't advice CQC with it so probably no reason to bring the melee mod.

Nearly every shotgun is better than this. Even the Katana and Eviscerator.
It's odd to be a shotgun. It's accurate - but because of this, you need to aim your shots well. It also weighs a ton, because it's hard to upgrade.

Geth Plasma Shotgun and Graal Spike Thrower both work at long range and have a much higher damage per second. They're also way lighter.Brettic wrote...

Believe me, I'm not trying to look at it like a sniper. Unfortunately, the only way to make it useful is to aim for the head, otherwise the clip size is too small to take down a group of enemies on bronze, let alone silver. And I don't even want to think about gold, since even a headshot probably won't kill something on gold.

I don't understand why they give it the ability to use the mods in the first place, It's like giving a GPS an AP mod, they could at least make it have some effect on the weapon.

I really enjoy using those shotguns, totally wreck stuff with them on my HS. I would have liked to see how the Crusader compares.
I do use the GPS very successfully at medium-long range.

Not that I think CQC with this weapon is a problem, but if one does, then I would argue that the melee mod is a good choice.

Except those guns kick ass.
@OP
Don't have it, so can't say for sure, but it sounds like the worst of the four from what I've read. The rarest shotguns aren't the best for some reason. Wraith II is a huge disappointment.
GPS probably is a bad comparison though. That gun is going to get nerfed. And no, I don't support nerfing on coop games.

The Crusader has half the power, infinitely more recoil, an awkward reticle, and a long reload time. That's how it compares. Oh, and don't forget a ton more weight. It weighs as much as the Widow.Brettic wrote...

... I hate you.

I was running into the problem with it on a human soldier where cannibals were taking to hits at semi-mid range to die. and the only way around that was adrenaline rush. Its a terrible gun to be sure. Im not sure if getting it or the Eagle III would have been worse. I guess I'll just stick to my limited pool of guns like always:
Geth Plasma Shotgun
Mattock
Avenger
Predator
Phalanx
Carnifax

Congradulations, you got the two worst guns in the game...well, when you stack how hard it is to get them against their actual preformance, they are the worst guns you can get.

I would hope that they aren't going to nerf the GPS... It's not as overpowered as a lot of people seem to try and say it is, it's just an effective and easy to use weapon...the downside is that it has a small spare clip size compared to some other guns, which I'd say balances it out. I think that the only people that would think it's really overpowered are the people that haven't used it much or have their kills stolen by someone overclocking a GPS.
