I really don't get "promoters".

I want to promote enough peeps so I never have to touch MP again even with 50% readiness.
That's a lot of grinding you're going to have to do. Doing some quick math, it looks like it's going to take about 40 character promotions in order for 50% galactic readiness to be sufficient (provided your total force is around 7k near the end of the game). The MP is decent fun, but nowhere near interesting enough to go through that many promotions in a reasonable amount of time.

Seriously, my N7 rank is 180, and that's because I promoted 2 in order to get a Commendation pack in one of those events.
I just don't understand the appeal of grinding more and starting it over again.
I personally prefer having everything on level 20, so I can pick whatever character I want at the moment, and use them to maximum effeciency at all times, and thus have a higher chance of success.
So why exactly are people promoting, instead of keeping all classes at level 20 and enjoying the power?
promoting is a good mix, I only use lvl 20 1-2 times on gold and then suffer the lower credits to get to lvl 12 and then its right back to gold, its hard simple as that
easy kills are for babies and whiners

so you get some use out of all the character cards (the experience part) you get when you've maxed out the weapons.
Pretty much this. They're still fairly useless, but at least it feels like you get something out of all those character cards.

Besides you don't have to play Bronze at all, a Gold Card gives you enough EXP to reach level 5 (3 with silver and 2 with blue), I can make my level 5 shotgun infiltrator work pretty well in silver, so why play bronze at all?
(disclaimer, I do play bronze when I get lucky and I get no exp cards, making all my characters level 1)

I didn't bother with it really until I got all my non-N7 guns to rank X. After that, I got nothing but character cards so I promoted all my characters at once so I could at least benefit from the experience from the cards. (BTW if you do this the game will break).
Errr, you mean promoting everyone at once breaks the game? How so btw?
RE OP:
Respeccing. Respec cards are hard to come by, so if I want to try a different build I need to promote. Simple as that.
Also, challenge. Doing silver or gold runs with level 1 characters. That's something (and yes, it's doable).

The game flashes the +10 N7 level screen forever and you can't get out of it except by closing the game.Zjarcal wrote...

2) To try new builds
3) To keep the game fresh.
It only takes 2 decent bronze games to get a character to level 8, where you can start doing silver. It really doesn't take long to get back up to level 20.
I'm going to stop promoting when I start playing gold properly though.

I promote because I like the challenge of an underleveled characetr in Silver Gold.
It's always nice to have that level 5 character in a group of level 20 players and showing everyone just how little things like character level actually mean. Especially when one or two try to votekick you and rage into the mic "Stupid n00b, go back to bronze!", only to see me handily top the score and see them leaving after the match. It is insanely satisfying.
Plus, as I am getting mostly character cards now anyway, I do not want those free XP to go to waste, so I promote my level 20s before I go on a buying spree.
Rince and repeat. If I am grinding for gear, I might aswell get something from those redundant character unlocks.
I've been only promoting my Soldier's and Sentinel's because I never play them, and I"m trying to see how many times I can lvl them to 20 without even playing them... I"m about halfway through my 3rd cycle now on both.

Here's something I wanted to ask for a while: promoted chars give 75 extra war assets each, but is that value persistent (as in, once you have it, it will be there for every Shepard career you may start in the future)? Or it goes back to zero for new Shepards you start after promoting?Mr. Heavy wrote...
To try a different build without a respec card, to increase war assets for SP, or to increase epeen size for the truly desperate.

- So that the XP from matches and (some) character cards doesn't to go waste
- To keep me from getting bored
- For the war assets in single player. So that when I eventually get tired of multiplayer, I won't have to play it again just to increase my galactic readiness.

THIS
Take a SI for example.
First time I skipped proximity mine and went all 6 in every other skill...
Then I played round with proximity mine and no fitness
Then I went with a melee focused build with proximity mine
Then I went with energy drain only at 3 with fitness 5 and played around with it...
Then there's my build where I went for headshot damage over general weapon damage etc...
I found that all of these played differently (difference between only having energy drain 3 and full energy drain is huge for example) and even now I still can't decide on which loadout is best for my play style...
