I promoted until around 190 and then I think every successful run adds points or something, so its been going up since then even though I no longer promote.

@shadowweaver...

The way N7 works, if only goes up when a class gains experience/iz promoted, all classes combined going up from 0-20 is equal to 120 N7 points, 10 points plus the standard 20 every time a class gets promoted then back to being level 20. At 190, not a number divisible by 30, your classes cannot all be 20, hence any time one that isn't gods up, you see an increase. A maxed out non-promoter will always have an N7 divisible by 30, like me sitting pretty at 600.

Back to the discussion, I don't promote because I see no point beyond the increased likelihood people will think me experienced and let me play as any character with any loadout without getting any grief. And that's about it. If promoting will give me a free N7 weapon, sure I'll do it again, same if 600 stops being high enough to grant me my desired immunity, as it is I just recently got all my stuff besides the ultra-rares maxed out and have bought nothing but Jumbo packs since, a healthy 1 million credits saved up and counting, once I have enough saved up that I can mass-promote and buy enough PSP's all at once to instantly go back up to 20 with every class, well that's my plan. Same for when new dlc comes out, I plan to have every new weapon and character maxed out right off, a good 10-15 million should be enough to promote and re-max every class twice, and Max out all the new stuff in one fell swoop, I think I'm gonna aim for going straight from N7 600-900, which means some classes not being promoted twice, but even if some of those character cards get wasted it shouldn't be too many.

So yeah, that's my story, I believe a number of people to be doing similar things, either way I don't care about N7 at all, as it is I look to see people 120+ with N7's divisible by 30 playing a lv. 20 character as potential non-promoters, something I would hope everybody does, but I know I chose 600 even to make the connection with me hard to miss for anyone I play with, only reason I didn't stop at 300 is I accidently promoted too many times without thinking

Level 20 is boring and too easy.

No easier than a level 1 on silver.

I do it because I keep looking for ways to improve my game play so as I learn new things about powers, builds, weapons, tactics, ect I will promote in order to tweek my character so I can make use of what I have learned.

I also do it right before I drop a lot on PSP's since ive got all my common, uncommon and rare weapons and dont like the character cards going to waste.

Also each promotion gives me +75 war assets.

I guess to try new builds if u have no respec cards?? Or maybe some ppl get bored of always being lvl 20 and like the whole leveling up thing (or for N7 rank)

Because what's the fun in doing the same thing on lvl 20 over and over again?

I've made it more RP like for myself. I level all classes to 20, one by one, and then promote them. I give them all the same color scheme and a squad name that fits the colors.

I try to play a different class/race combination every cycle - that means I might not get super amazingly good at one class/race, but I'll get the max gameplay experience and better understand the abilities of other players. Of course, I could stay level 20 and just play the other races that way, but... meh.

I hate promoting, but I'm doing it for the simple fact that you get kicked from Gold less with a higher N7 rating.

I know I don't do it either, unless I really want to make some progress other than gaining money.

But I absolutely HATE the fact that you lose your character's names, appearance, and weapons/mods you had. It's just that I built my favorite builds and got everything reset, and I can't remember exactly what they were unless I write it down, all the builds/appearance/weapons/mods for every race of the class. If only they lost just the level's and builds it would have been much better

If that were true for everyone, then people wouldn't have been so disappointed with the Mass Effect franchise after reaching ME3's ending :P
I personally care more for the destination. It's a strange fact, but it's true,

I promote all the classes all the time and no I don't play silver often. The key it to get enough character cards so that the level is usable on gold, for me this is generally around 12, but some can be used with lower levels. By promoting I find that I actually use equipment and learn the best builds for my play style.

My current single player war assets from N7 promotions: 1500

That's why I promote, that's why I'll always promote. Bioware forced MP on us SP players, so I play MP (and I've come to love it, don't get me wrong), and I promote and advance my war assets. I play no other MP games at all besides the very rare game of Civ IV or V with some friends.

I also didn't understand the point of promoting. But since I'm getting only character cards from PSPs I figured why not promote the lot so those cards are not a total waste ;)

There is your answer.

People promote to rebuild the character to get a better build. Better as in more optimized or more fitting for your playstyle. I have all non commendation pack N7 guns except the scorpion and indra, all characters, most customizations, all mods and a couple of maxed rares. Yet I've had like 7 respec cards. I've had 3 different builds on each of my soldiers alone. Since I don't use the human female, that's a minimum of 15 respec cards FOR ONE class.

Double what I've unlocked. So I've had to promote. Quite a few times to test different builds. There's still 4 or 5 class/race combos I want to change, but I'm done promoting. So I just have to wait to pull a card.

Seriously, my N7 rank is 180, and that's because I promoted 2 in order to get a Commendation pack in one of those events.

I just don't understand the appeal of grinding more and starting it over again.
I personally prefer having everything on level 20, so I can pick whatever character I want at the moment, and use them to maximum effeciency at all times, and thus have a higher chance of success.

So why exactly are people promoting, instead of keeping all classes at level 20 and enjoying the power?

To re-do a build when I'm out of respec cards. Plus I'll get extra war assets for single player when they shut down the multiplayer servers. (Its going to happen, its EA we're talking about).

Protip: roughly 2.5 mil of PSP can bring all promoted classes back to level 17+ and at least 1 at 20. Since gold card provides 250k XP now.

That's what I do right now, save up to 2.5 mil + and then promote all, so the char cards won't go to waste. Also, can save some respec card.

I promote because I like the challenge of an underleveled characetr in Silver Gold.

It's always nice to have that level 5 character in a group of level 20 players and showing everyone just how little things like character level actually mean. Especially when one or two try to votekick you and rage into the mic "Stupid n00b, go back to bronze!", only to see me handily top the score and see them leaving after the match. It is insanely satisfying.

Plus, as I am getting mostly character cards now anyway, I do not want those free XP to go to waste, so I promote my level 20s before I go on a buying spree.

Rince and repeat. If I am grinding for gear, I might aswell get something from those redundant character unlocks.

This definitly. Along with the entertainment value of re-leveling a low lever character. Level 20's get dull fast for me at least.

I've never gotten a respec card, and I love trying out new builds so therefore I must promote.

Mainly to try out new builds. I don't get a lot of respec cards.

Another benefit is that promotions are permanent war assets for the single-player. The MP servers aren't going to stay up forever, and if I want to replay this game in a couple years I won't have to worry about coming up short at the end.

This. you never know when the servers may go away.
