A game set in the ME universe where you can pick your race like DA:O? Why not?

Well, I'd certainly support letting the player choose what race to play as... but.. thousands of years in the future? No thanks. If they jump it that far ahead, away from what we already know and love... what's the point? It'd be Mass Effect in little more than name only.
I just think the races, cultures, technology, basically the ME universe is fascinating and I would hate for them to just dump it. If they set an ME4 close to ME3 the universe would still be in shambles with no way from point to point. I don't know how they could make a game with that.

Mass Effect; ArchAngel (about Garrus on Omega)
Mass Effect: First contact (about Anderson during the first contact war)
Mass Effect: Betrayal (about Zaeed and his founding/betrayal of the blue suns)
Mass Effect: Justice (about Bailey working for CSec)
Mass Effect: Hidden shadows (a stealth base shooter focusing on Thane).
and those are just a few of the Spin-off ideas i can think of

i still think instead of a ME4 they should make spin-off such as

I would have loved all of those before I beat ME3 but now I just feel like playing any prequel type game/dlc would be too depressing for me knowing how nothing you do matters and everything just goes to hell in the end T_T

I was speculating maybe a rebuilding process sometime set after ME3, your character is a leader of stranded colonists and must find the needs and resources in order to survive and make contact with the rest of the galaxy.

That sounds like it would be a cool story if it were a SP game. I wouldn't play an MMO T_T

I wouldn't play a mmo either, mmos are horrible, to look at it realistically I don't think they would add race selection in a SP story, they'd only do it in multiplayer or mmo, if they'd planned to make a pesonal story like in DA2 with surrounding Hawke and his family then it's going to be a human rather than turian because most wouldn't connect with an alien species other than a human.

Mass Effect is probably one of the best-selling/most-loved game series Bioware has made to date, but Baldur's Gate was loved by many and you notice they're not working on a BG5 or BG6 by now...?
Sometimes, even if they're good, once the story is told it has to end. Otherwise you inevitably get shark-jumping. Shepard's story is, and always was, about the Reapers (with a side serving of politic beurocracy). That's all over know. We have ENDING THPOILERTH for Reapers and Shepard has united the galaxy to combat them. What remains is NOT an inveitable (eg krogan rebellions if the cure wasn't made and/or Wrex preventing revenge, geth going DESTROY ALL ORGANICS requires them to not be THPOILERTH on either Planet Thpoiler or 'the ending') and there will undoubtedly be issues with players that didn't 'create' that universe and resent that it even exists.
As for prequels, I'd say those are even worse. Maybe you know the characters, but:
1) character development is limited since they have to end up as they appear in previous game set later
2) story has to follow strict lines since, again, has to finish with the state of the setting in previous games set after
3) whatever happens can't be too flashy, because otherwise it would be mentioned in the SETTING OF THE PREVIOUS GAMES.
and 4), many twists wouldn't be twists at all. For example, if the 'prequel' they went with was Archangel's vigilante stint on Omega, we already know alllll about Sidonis. So through the entire production we just sitting... waiting... for it to happen. We know that what happens to that point won't matter. There's no point Archangel being friends with Sidonis, because we KNOW WHAT SIDONIS WILL DO ANYWAY. Sidonis's actions are FIXED.... IN THE SETTING OF A PREVIOUS GAME SET AFTER.

Wasn't the whole point of the 'diverse endings' (no thpoilerth) that Bioware didn't have to make a sequel, so they could feel free to just BAM, whatever, to the ME universe?

Yeah, I'm of the opinion that they made the endings the way they did just to kill the franchise, but I can fantasize right? About a new story with new characters in the same universe. If it was in the far future there would be no constraints. I think it would be really cool to start a new story and be able to pick a race like in DA:O.

If there is an ME4 campaign i would not like to see a prequel. Nor one set in some far distant future where the galaxy has recovered from the Reaper War.
I personally would like to know how the galaxy was able to take the first steps in rebuilding the galaxy

That should have been in the ending. Maybe it will be in EC

Oh yeah, definitely. They've built up a great setting (as least initially, as it is now RUINED FOREVAAA, NOEEES) and I love the alien races.
I don't actually like playing humans. I AM a human. I play a human by STANDING UP and GOING OUTSIDE. I like something different! ...which is why I only ever played human in MP until I had one of the other aliens (that I could play, of course!) unlocked. And I never went back.
In DAO, I was almost always a dwarf. (Their men are manry, and their woman rock them curves). The rare occasions I was not a dwarf (usually magin' it up) I played an elf. I only ever played humans for completionist purposes.

Maybe, but the Extended Cut DLC is going to show us that, so it's a moot point.
