The first time you bought it at a store or from online and put it your computer and finished on your first go. What was your opinion and did it change afterwards?

My first opinion of the game is that it was really enjoyable, I played as a rogue with an agressive personality and was just agressive all the way though and it was great. But then my opinion changed long after I became influenced by other opinions and it went from great to not bad.

I bought it from the store, and hopped right into a mage Hawke. I found the idea of the Chantry seeking aid from a mage who wasn't a grey warden such delicious irony that I was willing to overlook the recycled maps. Loved the characters...just wish they weren't all bi. Didn't get Sebastian until my second playthrough (didn't get the downloadable content till then) so him and anything related to that...I can't discuss concerning my first playthrough.

Personally, I thought the ending came out of nowhere (I was pro-mage and fully expected to fight Meredith, but not Orsino) and my jaw dropped when I saw him turn into a harvester. But overall I enjoyed it.

Initially, I was impressed, and absolutely loved it, but then as I replayed it more, I compared it to DAO and saw its flaws. That being said, both DAO and DA2 are great games, just great for different reasons.  I will say that overall, my opinion hasn't changed much since my first playthrough.  Good game, fun combat, intriguing characters and plot.

Ha, I can actually stand to look at the new art style and it doesn't look bland and boring and mages finally play like mages should. The only thing that changed while playing it was I noticed the acoustics of Kirkwall are quite noticeable and things started to obviously look alike. My view stayed as a great game through out.

"Prologue" to Act 1: Consistently "meh" to "bad". It fluctuated between the two.

Act 2: Overall a great experience, but there were some pretty big flaws IMO

Act 3: WTF.

Endgame: So I just played a game with 3 disjointed stories and a really bad ending. This game is really mediocre.

Over time when I began discussing it on the forums, my opinion of the game only worsened. That said, I thought the companions were pretty good. Not enough to make the game great, but they were one of the better aspects of the game.

I've played the demo first, so I already know what's in there in Prologue. There' isn't much to comment. It was ok I guess. But i was expecting something else. I was expecting to play my character in real time. I'm not interested with what Varric told inside his story. I mean,  I can see Hawke and his family at Loitering. But I know  he's not real. .He is just character told by Varric. And the event already happened 10 years ago. It like looking back what happened in the past..I thought it was just  snipets of  Hawke's past. But atter long hours of gathering coins in ACT I, I cannot stomach it anymore. I keep thinking it's not real. It's not real. It's already happen. What is going on NOW? Where is Hawke? Why is he not there at interrogation scene? Why is he not present in game's real time? What happen to him?  I can't concentrate with all this questions lingering in my head. So I stopped playing at the end of Chapter I. Everything beginning to feel nonsense. Why am I playing this? I asked myself.  A day later, I tried new character and different gender hoping to find the answer and reasoning with different perceptive. I manage to complete it while struggling all the way not to stop playing. Then credits roll in. The end just end. And my head was numb. My questions were not answered. There is no Hawke in present time. Only a character and events of the past. Told by Varric.

Things never get any better since then. I play without role. I pick the dialogue without any thought. Direct Hawke behind the curtain, never actually view things in his perspective. Choice that doen't matter only make thing even worst. I miss out romance and most of game's content for being neutral and  indifferent. toward the companions.

It's not fun and I wasn't roleplaying.

First two acts of the game just felt like DA, usual good stuff, then the end of the game left me scratching my head for a little bit. The leader of the mages turns on me for no damn reason, and I'm not even really defending them against the violence inherent in the system, but just some giant space flea from nowhere. So it's like, what am I fighting for? I can see why Hawke just walks off, **** this ****.

"This is epic! It's far far less awesome than DA:O, bet it's still twice as good as 80% of the games out there today."

Act 1: Decent, has it's problems but I enjoyed it overall. The collecting money by different means is interesting.

Act 2: Great, it's few flaws are hidden by the Arishok and his awesomeness. Unfortunately, the Petrice plot should've had more impact and introducing Meredith / Orsino this late was, imo, a mistake.

Act 3: Lots of potential, ruined by how condensed it is.

I was introduced to the series through a playable download from my X-Box 360. My first impression was that I liked the dialog options that let you know the direction the conversation would take, but still let you be surprised by exactly what would be said. I thought the combat system was interesting enough and the storyline was interesting enough to give it a shot. Basically the demo was enjoyable enough to cause me to play it more then three times. That's usually something that causes me to seek out the game itself.

My first impression was "hmm this isn't as bad as I thought it might be". At the end I was like "this was a pretty decent game. Wish they didn't rush releasing it before it was fully done."

Interesting that we both had similar reactions in spite of the fact that you seem to have heard something about the game before it's release and I hadn't even heard of the game before playing the demo.  I didn't even know they'd rushed it.  Lemme guess, though, rushed for the Christmas season, right?

It came out in March, so no.

My first impression? "You know, I wasn't sure I'd like the voiced protagonist, but now I never want to go back."

What the hell's the point of rushing something through production if it's not to get it on the shelves by Black Friday?

Sad thing is, it would have probably been alot better if they did save it till Christmas. They could have gone over it again and fixed some of the loose ends, not to mention giving it a good polish. I personally wouldn't have minded waiting the 8 additional months for it.

I got it on the first day of release at the store. I liked the voice actors for the PCs, the characters, and the new battle systems (though the rogues with alittle over the top). The storyline was disjointed though, since the numerous LARGE timeskips. The acts really didn't fit together to me personally. And while i can understand some of the reuse of the scenery (since we are in the same city for 10years), it was just too much in the end.

Pre-release, I was excited at first, but as more info was released I was more "not sure if want". After completing the game, my impression was a rather bewildered "....Huh."

"Wow, Hawke's mother looks young!" coupled with "Wow, Carver has a big chin!" and "Aww, my Bethany looks so cute, too bad I'm playing a mage."

Yeah, I'm all about appearances. To be fair though, we see them running along and then complaining, before any actual story meat is given. The only form of story we have at that point is that they're running from the Blight.

Who knows? Maybe they exceeded the budget for the development? In any case their schedule was so aggressive. When I bought Awakening and saw advertisement for DA2, I was like "already?? man that was fast!". I was skeptical they could release such a potentially new huge game so quickly. Well now I see that the game was not finished so that is how it got "released" so quickly.

As far as I recall it went something like this:

_____________________________________________________________________________________

Hmm cool character in the intro, cool angry chick, cooler sassy Dwarf.. me like me like... this is looking good.

.......

....... "wait....

That's SUPPOSED TO BE A DARKSPAWN!!!! What the hell????......

UUUUUGH.. Yee Gods, those Darkspawn look nothing like they're supposed to... more like  badly drawn cartoon apes... uuugh... my eyes!...."

"What the heck???? The combat is INSANE!! Slow down for God's sake! I expect at least a minimum level of realism in a game".....

".. Oh hang on, unreliable narrator, I think  I remember reading something about this.. this intro scene is meant to be grossly exaggerated, obviously it will calm down a bit, and combat will get more realistic when the 'real' game starts"

"... Ok, character creation... tum tee tum... still too dark to see anything... tum tee tum...."

(10 minutes later)

"*sigh* So much for thinking that over-the-top combat was just a quirk of the intro, maybe if I remove my sword and...

"....oh ... er.. so I can't even remove my sword"

*sigh*

I actually really liked it. Disappointed with the lack of locations, and the story was a bit disjointed at times, but I enjoyed it for what it was.

Then the forums pointed out every possible flaw and... well, it's hard to call it a 'great' game now. And because the number of locations is minimal, it gets boring for me very quickly. Still enjoyable, but not as much as my first time.

I'm not letting this happen with Mass Effect 3. I loved that game to bits, and no amount of nitpicking is going to influence me this time.

I played the demo and thought, "My God this is awful". I bought it anyway, because Bioware didn't make bad games (!!), played it and thought "My God this is awful", struggled through to the end and thought OK the story was pretty good but blimey there was a lot wrong with it and who came up with those find and retrieve requests?? They were awful. Still doubt they will use them again in a game as they were so bad (!!).

I must say that I did leave it for a good few months before playing it again fully patched up and with the DLC and it was MUCH better. But yeah, first impressions weren't good.

When I got a first play-through going, I immediately fell in love with the improved combat. I also like most of the companion characters, even the ones I don't like(Fenris and Sebastion) have reasons for there issues. The recycled maps got on my nerves for a bit, but soon I started to let it go. The Arishok duel was as hard as I thought it would be, and I never pass it up on subsequent files. The Friendship/Rivalry system is FAR better than it was in origins, if only because you really aren't penalized for not agreeing with them thanks to their passive boosts. The end felt railroaded, but I understand that trying to stop The Battle for Kirkwall is like trying to stop Loghain from betraying King Cailain.

I absolutely loved it, and I still do!

Hawke was lots of fun, I adored the different personality types you could RP, and suddenly it was even more awesome to play as a mage. :o I thourougly enjoyed Varric's storytelling, my heart pounded when I faced off with the Arishok, and I cried like a little girl when Leandra died. :crying: I though it was a wonderful game and the DLC only added to it.

The only negatives for me were the reused areas, and facing Meredith AND Orsino in the end, instead of one or the other based on who you sided with, Still, it's one of my favorite games, and I have done 8 playthroughs. I never will understand all the hate it has received, and I'm so disappointed the expansion got cancelled.

I'm looking forward to the next game in the series. Orlais!:wizard:
