I was pushing the A button a lot, and Hawke was dancing around pretty fast. Maps were so redundant. Story was meh, and Hawke was one of my least favorite of the characters. It just seems like a story where nothing goes right, ever. Your brother/sister hates you/dies, your mom gets her head sewn onto a composite body by a blood mage, you can't convince Orsino to hang in there, you can't ever get Meredith to listen to you, you can't get Anders to quit being a total douche until it's too late, etc. Then at the end, you can't choose to be peaceful, you have to choose a side, even though they are both so dreadfully flawed.

My opinion hasn't really changed. The game itself had flaws, as did Origins, but it was overall pretty good. The big problem I had is that I don't feel like the story was able to make up for those flaws, especially when you try to attach it to Origins. Game Informer said it best when they wrote: "Dragon Age II caters to an audience that didn’t connect with Origins, while alienating those who did." I felt disconnected from my Origins story because it didn't really affect much. While the mage/templar thing was supposed to be a big deal, I still feel like Flemeth should have been the main antagonist, and when all is said and done, that should be where this ends up anyways. I'm not one of those people who wants Bioware to act like this game didn't even happen, but unless they are able to really connect those two games into DA3, I'm going to be really turned off from this series.

That overall it was fun. I liked the voiced protagonist and the faster pace to combat, especially. There were some flaws, but most of those have already been brought up on the boards, and hopefully Bioware will adjust those so future games will be even more fun.

When I got a first play-through going, I immediately fell in love with the improved combat. I also like most of the companion characters, even the ones I don't like(Fenris and Sebastion) have reasons for there issues. The recycled maps got on my nerves for a bit, but soon I started to let it go. The Arishok duel was as hard as I thought it would be, and I never pass it up on subsequent files. The Friendship/Rivalry system is FAR better than it was in origins, if only because you really aren't penalized for not agreeing with them thanks to their passive boosts. The end felt railroaded, but I understand that trying to stop The Battle for Kirkwall is like trying to stop Loghain from betraying King Cailain.

With the Cliffhanger ending, DA3 can start in any way.

I absolutely loved it, and I still do!

Hawke was lots of fun, I adored the different personality types you could RP, and suddenly it was even more awesome to play as a mage. :o I thourougly enjoyed Varric's storytelling, my heart pounded when I faced off with the Arishok, and I cried like a little girl when Leandra died. :crying: I though it was a wonderful game and the DLC only added to it.

The only negatives for me were the reused areas, and facing Meredith AND Orsino in the end, instead of one or the other based on who you sided with, Still, it's one of my favorite games, and I have done 8 playthroughs. I never will understand all the hate it has received, and I'm so disappointed the expansion got cancelled.

I'm looking forward to the next game in the series. Orlais!:wizard:

They might add the expansion in DA3 story or maybe not. Whenever Meredith stunned everyone (except Cullen) she would ramble and you couldn't even hear what she was saying. Varric's exagggeration added a funny element to Bethany's large chest and Varric taking on multiple guards. Mage is the most exciting class just wish it had more involvement in the story like you could be a blood mage.

The good part for me on Leandra's death is I can use that to change my Hawke like for instance, Hawke is fair-minded and helps mages but after the death of his mother at the hands of mage his entire outlook changes and believes mages to be dangerous.

I liked DA2 after my first playthrough. I liked enough to buy the dlc and did six more playthroughs.

Very poor. The very first dialogue event in the demo caught me off guard with Hawke saying something where I didn't understand why he'd said it. The game showed me right up front that it was irredeemably broken.

I liked it at first but when I saw the story and its themes, I started getting bored quickly. Especially bored with Hawke. I didn't care for him, friends or family (minus his mother).

I went in expecting crap (and for it to kill my firstborn son the way venom was spit about it all over the internet), and I got something decent.

Hasn't changed.

I liked bits of it. I didn't really hate anything until I got to the end and was like "What..? This is it? It's over? It's not even got an ending!"

I still feel like the ending was quite abrupt and now I can see the flaws a bit more clearly.
Still, it's not as atrocious as people make out. I still play it.
But the story has nothing on Origins and I think the story is still the most important bit.

Hawke to me doesn't feel like "the most important person in Thedas". If anything, that was Anders and he still doesn't have anything compared to the Warden.

I enjoyed the hell out of it the first time through. Sure, it didn't have Origin's "Epic" feel, but it was a fun ride.

..and then I replayed it. The flaws seemed more noticeable the second time 'round, and the endless waves of faceless baddies became REALLY irritating. (didn't revisit the areas as often the first time, so it wasn't a big issue)
Aside from one or two achievement runs, I haven't had the courage to muster up a serious playthrough again, though I am considering replaying the series as a whole.

I thought it was great. Then I went back and played DAO and while I still think the game is very good, it isn't great. I still really enjoy it though and am replaying it right now

My first opinion? Awesome, but repetitive (enemy waves, reused maps, random trash items you gotta bring to people for a pittance). Act 2 was great, Act 3 was shoddy. Loved Merrill and Varric, liked Aveline and Isabela, didn't much care for Fenris or Anders. Felt it would've been nice if we could've actually seen that 'mage underground' Anders kept talking about. Liked Varric's potential as an unreliable narrator, was disappointed when it was only used twice. Really disliked you could only talk to your party members at specific, designated times.

I was very excited and happy up until the ending when I became vicount for 5 seconds then had my title stripped and was put under house arrest...by that point I was VERY enraged.I thought to take my sig edition back for a refund but I stayed my hand because in my heart I knew David gaider and mike laidlaw would deliver an expansion pack to set things right. They *almost* did!

The first time you bought it at a store or from online and put it your computer and finished on your first go. What was your opinion and did it change afterwards?

That's it?!?! OMG NEED MOAR!

That pretty much sums it up right there. It didn't really help that I finished at level 19 and under 40 hours of play time (I've since added 8 levels and 10 hours to that with the DLC and more thoroughness). I was rather disappointed with no epilogue slides, which added to the incomplete feeling for me. Nevertheless, I was instantly eager for the next game. It was obvious to me that DA2 was made to be a bridge game right from that very first play.

My first opinion of DA2? I loved it. Sure, female Hawke's voice kind of made me groan inside at first, but eventually she kind of grew on me. All the characters did. Even Anders. The fast pace was fun, and I cried my eyes out when Leandra died -- but it was three in the morning and I'd pulled two all-nighters in a row. I became incredibly invested in the story, and was really kind of put out to see it end so abruptly. Then they cancelled the expansion pack.
On my second playthrough, yeah, the flaws stuck out really badly, and I played DA:O after I played DA2 -- so that makes the flaws even more obvious now that I look back on it.
But I still had a great time, regardless.

I just finished it for the first time, and I liked it overall. It was at times disappointing, with all the fetch quests and the lack of companion dialog compared to Origins, but it was engrossing and fun most of the time. The story being broken up threw me off a little. It seemed to lack momentum, and when NPCs would mention another 3 years having passed it felt really silly. I liked Act 2 the most. No opinion on the ending since I was distracted and need to play that part again. All I heard was that Fenris stayed at the Champion's side, even though I fudged that romance. (?_?)

My first thought was that while the game had a lot of problems, mainly lack of diverse areas, I loved the characters and the things it did right enough to forgive it's shortcomings. Love the dialogue system, how Hawke's attitude changes depending on choices, Hawke as a character, the way your companions really seemed to like/hate eachother, stuff like that.

My thoughts now are the same thing. I loved DA2, and I was really disappointed that the last DLC was scrapped as these characters are among my favorites ever in games.

First opinion?
What the hell happened to Dragon Age? that is what i thought as I played the first 10 minutes. It seemed like they wanted to make a medieval Mass Effect rather than a successor to Dragon Age: Origins

First impression was from the demo.
At first I was like, WTF IS THAT A DARKSPAWN WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?!?!?
Hmmmm, this combat is really spamy. It'll be much better for a melee character but I don't like it on my mage.
Errrr, potion cool down is kind of long. Blast, probably good for balance, but I liked chain potting in DA:O
so I have to go though the same areas both at night and during the day? and the number of times i switch between the two don't matter? LAME
This dwarf is awesome.

I could go on, but it'll turn into a rant. Overall, I had unreasonably high expectations due to how much I loved DA:O, so the game never stood a chance of getting a fair evaluation from me. Maybe I should actually play though it a second time and see if I like it.

Honestly I was disappointed.

I wasn't a big fan of the new combat system and reuse of environments.

I didn't hate it, but I was hugely disappointed considering how much I enjoyed Origins.

Second and subsequent playthroughs though, I enjoyed it a lot more. I appreciated the characters more and thought that sarcastic Hawke was brilliant.

It still felt unfinished though which remains my biggest issue with the game.

Overall, I think I disliked it the first time because it was so different from what I expected.

I thought it was awesome, even better than Origins! Of course, i eventually came to my senses, but i still think its a fantastic game. I believe it does alot of things better than Origins, but overall, Origins is a far superior experience. Also, i really liked the Flemeth cameo (at Sundermount). That whole exchange really woke me up to how powerful and wise she truly is, and how good she is at hiding it. Lastly, i was irritated at Varric because i couldnt figure out why he didnt look like a dwarf. After some hearing some of his in-game convo with Fenris, i realized it was because he didnt have a beard. Then i felt ashamed...
