I know this topic has been vistied a few times, but not THAT many - at least I couldn't find too much.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me if I am missing something here. I recently got the Asari Justicar, and thought it would be a class that my Saber III might work well with. I tried a few runs on bronze and silver, and it worked out OK. I always thought it packed a nice punch. A bit heavy, but with the assult rifle weight reduciton, it is very doable.

However, after those matches, I went in and checkd out my weapson, and realizd that my Canifex VII, equipped with the EB actually has more damage than the Saber III (if I added the EB to the Saber, it bumps up the Saber just barely over the Carn, but I like it with stability and scope, or maybe AP).

Anyway, with the Carn weighing soo much less, is there any reason ever for using the Saber? What am I missing here? The Saber certainly feels more powerful - I think it may have a better stagger effect (?), but if it is putting out lower damge at a (noticeably) reduced fire and reload rate, why would I bother?

thanks

OK thanks. Yeah I forgot the damage is greater without the EB on the pistol, but add that and the damage bar is greater for the carn. I assume that damage bar is an accurate reflection of the damage? Is that DPS or single shot damge (the damage bar in the weapon window)

No problem. They are supposed to reflect single shot damage, but I wouldn't put too much into it. You're better off bookmarking the spreadsheet link, hehe.

OP, unless you want to penetrate cover, there's no reason to pick the AP mod over the EB.

The in-game values for damage, accuracy, etc.. are trash. Stick with that link and you'll be good. Frankly though, the Paladin is the weapon you want, second highest DPS for any multiplayer weapon, right behind the Hurricane. (Of course, this is burst DPS. When it comes to sustained DPS, weapons like the Talon and the Saber really earn their keep. This matters most on the highest difficulties, where you'll be firing the most, and reload speed + clip size is a huge determinant in effectiveness.)

I just tried my Saber yesterday and think I might change the scope for AP. I had the feeling that I did not do much damage to anything on gold..was really weird. The Carnifex VI worked better for me. I am pretty sure I *did* hit ...and on silver at works perfectly so my aiming couldn't be that far off.

I was quite pleased though that I was able to use it on my Justicar. I am not much for soldier/sentinel. The cooldown is quite acceptable with the Saber on VIII (..have been lucky lately) .

Why...?
The advantage carnifax has over the Saber is mainly the weight. If you're gonna take both, you forfeit that advantage, and would be better if with just the Saber.

Depends on the Character...i would never give an Adept a Saber *maybe the Drell*

but a Sentinel, Soldier or Engineer actually becomes a killing machine if you equip both...

The Saber owns everyone at long Range and the Carnifex takes care of everyone at close and mid range...they make a deadly duo

and one thing i can say about the Saber is that it is pretty accurate out of cover you can even shoot without aiming...while the Carnifex is not that accurate out of cover...

im sure a weight reduction for the Saber will come on the upcoming weeks *just like the weight reduction the Revenant got*

But why both? For the extra ammo?

yes but also cuz those 2 compliment each other very well...The Carnifex is a good damage dealer all around , but the Saber deals more damage to armor...so while you take out shields and barriers with the Carnifex...the Saber takes care of the armor...and you compliment it with armor damaging powers...

still it depends a lot on what mods you give to your weapons...

Also the Saber has the ability to make enemies stumble at close range unlike the rest of the Assault Rifles *well maybe the Striker and the Falcon too but they shoot grenades*...so while they stumble, i take the Carnifex and waste a clip on them...and then i just finish them off with the Saber...its a good combo...*it works particulary well with Vanguards*

Quarian Engineer with Saber and Carnifex, with incendiary ammo and Incinerate + plus flamethrower turret, becomes a fest in fire explosions...

Saber verses Carnifex:

O Carnifex, Carnifex, wherefore art thou Carnifex?
Deny thy small clip and girly sounds;
Or if thou wilt not, do at least damage
And I'll no longer reign supreme.

Really, I think a Sabre and Carnifax are functionally very similar, except that the carnifax is lighter, does less damage and has a smaller clip. For 2 weapons to compliment each other they generally should cover different niches, while Carnifax and Saber share pretty much the same niche of being a slow-firing, accurate and medium-long range weapon, both are similarly effective against armour, maybe the Saber is a bit more.

More damage per shot maybe.

Saber I (DPS): 518.67
Carnifex X (DPS):  575.17

I'm not saying I don't like the Saber (sounds iawesome and makes you look like you mean business) but for it's weight and rarity it's pretty weak imho. On a power heavy class you trade in at least 100% CD for 2 more shots and an alomost negligible damage increase.

No, but really...who needs a scope? Accuracy is aleady quite high.

It's only a matter of weight. If you can spare the 50%ish CD, go for Saber. More Accuracy, more damage, bigger clipsize. Practically a Valiant with 8 shots.

Yeah. Usually one shot is enough with the Saber, that's also why I don't think the damage difference is neglible. On gold It can one-shot enemies that take two Carnifex shots . On a good marksman that makes it more effective. My Saber is at X and gives me a cooldown bonus of +120 to +170%, that's why it is one of my favorite weapons on certain classes that don't need a +200 CD. I didn't use it on anything but the Krogan sentinel on lower levels, because of its weight.

And scoping this weapon is a waste, no matter what map you're playing on. If you can do headshots on giant and dagger without it, that is.

I really like the saber, it's just too damn heavy for most caster builds.

I like the sabre but the weight is crippling for my style of play.

I prefer playing "power" based classes over weapon based and my Geth Infiltrator is a proximity mine commando (6 tc/ 6 proxy mine/ 4 hunter/ 6 ai / 4 fitness) and so the cool down is necessary to drop 2 mines in one cloak cycle (40% additional damage on a mook!).

As such, the heaviest gun I'll bring to the field on a power class is the GPS.

Saber is better in every way pretty much. The only thing that hinders it is recoil which can be adjusted for quite easily if you get used to it.

My favorite gun in the game honestly.
