Approaching the last straw....

My patience with EA and ALL its developers is rapidly approaching critical mass thanks to the lastest online pass issue for the PC. It is apparent that EA does not push or demand quality from its developers, only a product it can sell (complete or not). I am half convinced that EA and its partners are run by a group of monkeys. Everything that is coming out of EA as of late is a complete mess. Patches to fix one issue create two others. Things that are obviously wrong go unfixed (example. Dallas Cowboys home jersey is wrong in madden MUT and has been since LAST AUGUST!) Unless the ME3 saga is resolved to MY satisfaction, EA and I are about to part ways permanantly.

My son is about old enough to get out the old Axis and Allies board game. No bugs, no DRM, no lame endings, no origin.. just good old fashion fun. Video games used to be fun. I am not sure what it is, but as an industry, it is becoming more of an irritation than an enjoyable experience. It's almost as if the video game industry has jumped the shark in a way. The push for the lastest and greatest graphical experience is causing ALL other aspects of a game to suffer (AI, story, gameplay...).

Yeah funny thing is there is nothing latest or greatest about these garbage console ports.

I have a cheapo I3 laptop with integrated graphics that runs this game just fine. 6 months old, paid <400 for it.

I wholeheartedly agree with your point though, quality does not matter to these massive publishers. Throw some money down on marketing and you have a winner as long as its shinier than last months steaming pile of hype.

I'm not the type to blow off a game company after one failure of a product but I will be less eager to go back to them and much more attentive when that time comes. ME3 was Bioware/EAs last opportunity and they blew it, hard. I am done with both of them and you better believe I will turn my circles of friends/family away as well.

Vote with your dollars, that is the ONLY thing these people understand anymore.

They were approaching the last straw with DA2, I was annoyed how rushed that game was... now they give us ME3 with so much DRM on it, it turns into a game of "connect to the servers" I am done with EA, and if Bioware continues their relationship with EA, I am done with BW as well.

CDProject on the other hand actually looks after their paying customers, if you want a better gaming experience, go give em your money.

The 2nd last straw was DA 2. Last straw for me was Origin. Didn't like it and didn't want it. But I did suffer it so I could finish what I started in ME and ME2. Then MW stuck on MP. And those little lies like you'll not need MP for the best SP or you only have to register once. Turns out that I'm getting more replay value out of MP than SP. But with these problems related to the comm packs I wish I had avoided the challenges and I'm guessing whatever is wrong with Origin and this continuous need to keep checking my DLC is authorized.

So indeed, a few more straws have been added to my last straw. All the great creative effort that's gone into the series has been sadly undermined by non-creative executives. No EA will soon mean a lot less hassles

Origin *shivers* what a diabolical piece of software, it makes me cringe every time it starts up

I find the saddest part is Bioware, who made some of my all time favourite games of awesomeness, have sold their souls to these ar$eholes.

This is why 'constant remote authentication' DRM is inherently unacceptable. If you have *ANY* DLC installed, the outage will prevent you from playing your single player game as well because it can't reach the server it needs to confirm your right to play the DLC with.

I will admit, I pre-ordered ME3 under the premise that it didn't require Origin. (That was revealed in the last few months of the development stage, and I preordered nearly a full year in advance.) I was led to believe that I could get a copy that didn't require origin. To tell you the truth, I played through the game completely once. Nearly twice, but I needed to rebuild my Computer and haven't reinstalled it.

That was two months ago. The games released in the last decade have been - in a word - sh!t. Yes, I will admit to one or two good releases that actually deserve the attention they get, but unfortunately, the bad outweighs the good by an alarming proportion. In my opinion, the last 'good' games were in the end of last century, Zelda (Ocarina of time, Majora's Mask), Metriod, Mario, Darkness, Evil dead and so on. Brilliant games, absolutely and truly brilliant. Kept replaying them constantly, I wasn't let down by the developers, and most importantly - while the graphics weren't always the greatest, the story was BRILLIANT.

Unfortunately, in this century, everyone is taking the reverse approach. Developing this cutting edge graphics and leaving this outlandish notion called a 'plot' - something most intellgent gamers look for - back in the last century. Most games nowadays can be completed in about 8-10 hours by a casual gamer. And the games that are longer and require a little more thinking are riddled with bugs. And as the Op stated, every patch creates two more bugs. It's a constant irritation that is actually making me sorry I dropped dancing - an activity for which words cannot express my hatred enough for. An industry based on entertainment is now shifted to irritation.

The only reason that my copy of ME3 is still on my shelf and not in a garbage bin is because it's the collector's edition, and I spent $150 Aus on it.

Don't even get me started on the in-game content.

I agree. The first RPG that I ever tried was Knights of the Old Republic. Was one of the best games I ever played. But with each new RPG Bioware releases, it looks better but plays worse and the stories make less and less coherent sense. Then EA enters the picture and turns KOTOR3 in to SWTOR, an MMO. That REALLY pissed me off as my budget does not allow for monthly fees for games. And truth be told, Bioware is not a MMO company. Making them do such a game is beyond their calling. If left to do what they do best and given the proper time to do it, they MIGHT be able to return to quality products, not just shinny eye candy.

Diablo 3 will obliterate ME3 multiplayer and with this sh*t happening I don't think Bioware will be able to win back players no matter how many more 'resurgence packs' they release

Even post DA2 I was a bioware fan, I "got" the game, and my only real issue with it was the recycled levels. But this ME3 Fiasco is ridiculous, I cant even play the game because of the online pass/DLC issues and the last 5 minutes/ending was just horrid.

It might be time to write Bioware off as a lost cause, and i've been with them since baldur's gate.

I played just fine with setting Origin to Offline mode, I just couldn't access the multiplayer.

I agree with this, since the age of the PS2 most gamers have been paying more attention to the presentation then the game itself.  Every game I have played since near the start of the PS2 era has been buggy and its just been getting worse with the presentation of the game being put ahead of the mechanics of the game.  The real question would be are players willing to sacrifice the presentation for mechanics and I highly doubt it, so the companies are choosing the lesser of two evils.

Sorry guys, quick question: I literally just bought the game a couple of hours. Should I avoid purchasing any DLC/downloading the Reckoner Knight armo if I want to play the single-player game?

I just logged into the game and was able to connect to the servers so you should be okay.

Jumping the shark might be right. For the last few days, my Origin password has automatically reset a few times, and yesterday I couldn't even contact EA support (an oxymoron, I know). Seriously, you have to log into Origin to access support...what if the problem is you can't log into Origin?! Great way to alleviate calls to support!

The biggest problem is Origin. By wanting to create 'online universes,' EA is putting all of its games into one basket... if Origin screws up, all of its games are hosed. It's understandable they want a piece of Steam's 40 million player pie, but Origin is more akin to Games for Windows Live than Steam.

Thank goodness Bethesda still knows what single player games look like, because BioWare and EA sure don't.
