Seriously though. Backfire already did pretty decent damage, considering it's an instant cast, instant travel aoe that staggers on cast and bypasses shield gating.

Now? Now it's gotten slightly crazy.

This video explains how Backfire works for those who had (foolishly) been ignoring it all this time. For those already familiar with it, I hope it shows just how much the damage and delay has been improved.

And this is on Gold.

It kinda scares me to think what this would do on Silver. Slaughter everything in sight and simultaneously make your team think you're AFK with your score of zero?



Settings: Gold difficulty vs Cerberus in Firebase Dagger.

I might promote just to respecc my sabotouge, I made me QI back when I thought the recharge speed was more useful. Ahahaha! Could I be more wrong?

if it KO's an assault trooper, it'll do the same to a phantom btw.
or any unshielded cerberus target.

Basically instead of having ED to unshield targets, you can use sabotage as the KO punch with your sniper rifle as a shield stripper.

we know power damage and cloak are additive.
the only way that sabotage is doing enough damage is if tech vulnerability is multiplicative.
This will allow the quarian defender to do up to 1770 damage, which unfortunately is not enough to KO a geth trooper by itself.

but that's not a big issue since you're sabotaging a geth.
this seems less useful vs reapers though, since it won't KO.

Not getting any score with it is a real bummer though.

Before the changes, I've had it specced for 100% tech damage received, and was awesome, of course if you have tech users with you.

I love Sabo, i think my QI is my strongest build. i dont use any of the other infiltrators.

I didn't watch the video (my pc is downright horrible, youtube makes it freeze, haha), but I'm beginning to think that Bioware didn't factor in the damage bonus from cloak when buffing backfire. It is kind of silly how effective it is now.

Umm.. yeah? My point was that I think Bioware may have forgotten this when looking at backfire, maybe because you normally don't think of sabotage as a direct damage dealer. I don't know, just seems weird that they would make it this powerful. It's good on gold, must be ridiculous on silver, killing troopers everywhere.

I don't think they forgot it at all - the drop in damage applied time from 2s to 1.5s seems pretty deliberate to bring it into the cloak damage bonus if you don't take rank 6 power evolution.. QI has (wrongly imo) been considered a pretty poor choice against anything other than geth. The damage boost doesn't affect geth at all (just hacks them, no damage) but now makes QI pretty damn nice against everything.

It is kind of silly how effective it is now.

Actually it got much more effective on silver but not that much on gold. On silver you can now one shoot a lot of standard (even shielded) enemies. On gold the buff allows you one shoot assault troopers (and I think nemesis with power addon lvl 3) and opens up quite some weapon options for getting rid the remaining health bar (falcon, scorpion, gps, talon, arc pistol). Against reapers you would still need 2 shots to kill marauders/brutes.

But now you could theoretically solo reapers gold using Sabotage only. Thanks to the buff you need about 10 casts to kill a banshee. Before you needed 16 or 17 basically making it impossible to kill a banshee in less than 1 minute (making kill objectives basically impossible to solve without missiles).

It's a nice buff, but for gold it would not be OP.

I still would love to try out a game with for Sabotage specced QIs. My testings suggest that the tech bonus stacks (but for some reason no one seems to want to verify my testings...), allowing a bonus of up to (4 QIs targeting the same target) +400% (x5) for every single Sabotage shot in the first round and +800% (x9) in the second round. Theoretically 4 QIs should be able to wreck reapers gold without needing a gun at all.

Huh. I've read about sabotage dealing a lot of damage, but it didn't make sense to me because the in-game documentation is pretty obscure. I will have to play around with this; I'm still confused by both the math and mechanics.

Before the buff, Backfire would knock an Assault Trooper down to about 4 bars IIRC. Yet on a Centurion it would take down their Shields in one cast, then kill them on the second cast. That does suggest the bonus stacks, since Centurions have just as much health as an Assault Trooper.

So I tried this out, and it certainly works, although I think it's a little crazy. The power doesn't work as described--it causes damage even on melee-only characters, so it has nothing to do with "weapon backfire"--and doesn't indicate kills when they happen. I think something is glitched here, but it's definitely a ridiculously powerful ability for a QI as it stands. It's basically just Magic Damage Insta-Bomb.

I'm doing it without the power power in QD and with a sniper but omg its amazing.

Backfire does so much damage, just always lead every shot with it, and it's even good vs geth cause i can turn the guy im about to kill into a bomb. it's got so much utility and now it does so much damage as well.

cool man i thought it's just for geth hacking. hadn't really tried it out much so thanks for the vid. tbh tho i still prefer ed (fills u up and also staggers) but if they fix sabotage so it gives you the sweet sweet points i might reconsider (my e-peen is imortant to me!)
