I think a much better approach for an Elder Scrolls MMO would of been doing something like DayZ big 64 player servers that save your character and you just play through the game exploring/interacting with players and creating your own experiences. No factions or bigger motives just create a character and experience the Elder Scrolls world with your friends.

I've seen a few recent articles that do a good job of explaining how it works:

That review basically ends up with the idea that ESO doesn't feel like Elder Scrolls so much as a new RPG entirely. Whether TES fans flock to it or not is in question, but its likely to be a no.
I certainly won't, mainly because of its pricing.

If the first thing you'll do after purchase is head off in one direction and not stop the way you'd do in TES, then I'll tell you right now you will be pissed off and just save your money because it's not TES VI. If you are more apt to treat this as a new RPG, like Kingdoms of Amalur or DA:I, then i think you'll find the game fun to play. As with any game, this does have its flaws and in my feedback I told the designers unequivocally what these were. But so do my favorite games ever like DA:O or Skyrim, and some of those problems are conspicuous ones. If you judge games like I do, that is if the strengths are good enough that you'll overlook its weaknesses, then I think if you like TES you might find yourself having fun despite ESO not being what we wished it could have been.

ESO has that ES in its title, so I completely understand the Shoddy sentiment. I didn't really think much of the exclusive race and such since by that point I knew I couldn't play the game(pricing), but having some thought, I'd be pissed if I had these options locked off based on what version I purchased. Course, a fan posted a comment on the Shoddy video with an image of a conversation with a dev that basically assured that all these items could be found and/or received in other ways in-game.
We'll see. I never played a TES game until DA2 was so bad that a friend convinced me to pick up Skyrim, and good holy God am I glad I acquiesced and made that decision.
I'd like ESO to give me some of the feel of Skyrim(ironically enough I was planning to play a Wood Elf in ESO as compared to the Imperial I did in TESV), but until I touch it, I can't say whether I'll approve or not.
I await the free to play.

Although personally even if I look at it from the perspective of not being an Elder Scrolls game I'm still not overly impressed with it. It just ends up being an average MMO with different combat that still doesn't feel all that great. The weapons don't seem to carry much weight to them.
Of course, if you're putting the Elder Scrolls name on it then I expect it to still be an Elder Scrolls game. Not just them slapping the name of a well known IP on the box as a way to lure people in.
Just like how I expect Dragon Age: Inquisition to still be a Dragon Age game. It can change some things around and improve on the massive amount of criticism that DA2 had thrown against it, but the core still needs to be Dragon Age.

Well, I expected DA:2 to be, funny thing, "Dragon Age 2" and that experience has made me allergic to pre-ordering.
ESO does had ES in the title but Todd Howard is not involved in it and the developers have purposely *not* put a VI in the title. To me, I (now) interpret this to mean I shouldn't expect TES VI as they have no intention of making it. It is, fair, however to expect TES like things - the "feel" as you say - and many of them and ESO has enough of them to be worthy of the name. That was my assessment for what it is worth. But it's not VI and it's not trying to be VI.
But what TES? To some TES veterans, they will insist it is Morrowind and they'll tell you that Skyrim is a dumbed-down consolized and bastardized shadow of what TES used to be and are still awaiting Morrowind II.
It is obvious some people are more annoyed at the pre-order exclusives than I am. I don't care about the Imperial race or the stupid horse. I get it, it's a cash-grab, but I've lived long enough to come to expect such stuff. Wake me up when some moron who went to business school actually makes a decision that puts their customers - and devopers (there is now way this is their decision) - before profit.

I don't quite understand, why weren't you able to head off in a random direction and do your own thing?

You start off on an island. Once you got off the island, you have a lot more freedom in that regard.

So you start in Coldharbour, limited obviously until you leave, then get sent to a starter island that takes a few hours to get off of, then ANOTHER island that takes even more hours to get off of(from what Josh said about the Daggerfall Covenant's side that he played), and THEEEN you get to mainland Tamriel.
Once you're on the mainland, I wouldn't know.

TESO is in for a rude awakening. If you are trapped on two small islands to start, that's horrible, too. Let's hope Fallout 4 doesn't try to pull any of this. And races can join any faction? What kind of an alliance is that? Lol.

I got to level 15, it's a good game, but I can't stand the sub base when there is going to be a cash shop,
Or if you play daggerfall or ebonheart you have to play through 2 islands before getting more freedom. Its possibly the worst design decision in the game because it doesn't hook players in.Joy Divison wrote...

Its the main draw for me, it looks better designed than WvW in GW2.blaidfiste wrote...
Actually for me this type of PvP is worth ignoring everything else. SWTOR.
