Wow. I'm usually dubious as to "amazing" graphics, but these humanoid models do look really good in this.

I hope they can manage something more interesting than the usual MMO fare, like with implementing that castle-siege part of the cinematic. I visualize it as PvP and really full of different gimmicks, as the ladders and ropes and such.

edit: though I fully agree with the post below. Also, less players on a much much larger area.

+ I'd hope for a server with more permanent deaths. Like if you could only be rezzed by other good-willed players, and not have stupid spawn-points (at least in some highly-rewarding "wilderness" area). Sure it might take quite some time for your character to be found and revived (if not by anyone else, then your alt) - but it'd really add some significance to one's death. Also, bodies should be lootable in this.

The aspect that I'm hoping that The Elder Scrolls Online expands on is exploration. If ZeniMax can encourage players to travel the game world more (even at max level), rather than fast traveling, it may increase my interest for the game.

I doubt that will happen especially seeing as how they won't be having different servers, you log in to 1 megaserver and where you go depends on your preferences.

I asked in the skyrim thread but I'll ask here are those figures in the trailer meant to be figures from elder scrolls lore?

I think it's just the iconic marketing characters showcased in the E3 Teaser Trailer and on posters and billboards at E3, an example of a Nord warrior, a Bosmer mage, and whatever race the stealth guy was supposed to be (Breton?). I wish the elves had a bit more of the alien look from the singleplayer TES games.

I think the mage was an altmer and yeah the rogue was definitely breton considering the other 2 choices are redguard and orc.

There's already discussion on the bthesda forums and the consensus is leaning towards them being in game generals.

I agree that it would be nice if the mer races were a bit less human looking.

There's a new podcast on the game up at:

There will be classes but from what I understand all classes will be able to equip any armor and any weapon and they'll get a different set of abilities with each one, I've even heard that non magical classes will have some magica and be able to spec into doing limited spells.

There's 50 levels, levelling up will involve questing, the open world PVP in Cyrodil and I assume crafting as well (but I don't know for sure). There is an extensive crafting system regardless of whether you gain levels from it or not.

6 abilities can be equipped at any 1 time. Its a deck type system with players gaining many different abilities and choosing any 6 at 1 time. I have inferred from the information available that the trinity (tank/healer/DPS) will be in the game but classes will be able to spec into any of the 3 roles on the fly via the different armor, weapons and abilities.

For those who want to know (or too lazy to read! xP)
Factions:
Ebonheart pact = Nords, Argonians, Dunmer
Aldmeri Dominion = Altmer, Bosmir, Khajiit
Daggerfall Covenant = Redguard, Orc, Breton

I would like to see how the Ebonheart Pact works out, given how the Nords, Dunmer, and Argonians have historically been enemies for so many years. It would be interesting to see this uneasy alliance work through their own distrust towards a common goal.

If I end up getting ESO, I'll probably try out a Dunmer protagonist. I wonder how vampirism and lycanthropy will work out in ESO...

They seem to be actual characters and not just iconic characters.  I say that because someone asked a dev if the rogue was a Breton, and he confirmed it was and that we'd learn more about him soon.  Source: http://www.elderscro...covenant-part-2

If we're going to learn about him, he must be a lore character they'll establish.  And that's cool given that the Breton stereotype is a mage.

At any rate, I like ES and certainly like how big and explorable the worlds in an MMO can be.  So I'm looking forward to the game.  Leaning towards playing an Aldmeri Dominion character since Valenwood and Sumerset Isle are the regions I've most wanted to see in an ES game that haven't been shown much yet.  Now they just need to release some more class/spell info so I can design characters when bored.

But the key part is that crafters will need adventurers to get the stuff they need, or a crafter can try and get it themselves from different parts of the world. It's an interdependency that means the players will need to work together on some level.

This sounds great to me. I loved that about SWG's crafting. I'd have a list of people I'd buy or trade exclusively from and vice versa. If ESO can make the crafting feel even a little like SWG I'll be very happy.

The Old Republic cinematic trailer was amazing. Despite being short form content, it was more enjoyable to watch than than the entire feature-length Phantom Menace movie. It was perhaps too good, as my expectations were probably higher than they should have been for the gameplay. TOR was the first MMO I ever tried, and I kept thinking, this is nothing like that trailer.

Hopefully the ESO trailer will turn out to be a little more reflective of stuff that is actually in the gameplay, like siege weapons, etc.

The Elder Scrolls Online hands-on: first-person mode, skills, stealth and more

Image IPB

PC Gamerwrote...
In short: TESO will have a full first-person mode in the Elder Scrolls style. This is, I suspect, what the majority of fans have been waiting to hear. It should certainly delay the inevitable “meh” in the comments below, if such a thing is possible. First person wasn’t available in the build I played – we were shown it in a video, but it looks great.

PC Gamerwrote...
Dialogue takes place in a zoomed-in first person similar to Skyrim, with a slightly expanded dialogue menu that more closely resembles Morrowind. It’s all fully voiced, but facial animation is a bit rough at the moment.

PC Gamerwrote...
In combat, however, things are more flexible. Enemies will interact with one another based on their type – for example, multiple humanoid foes will work together, calling for healing or special attacks as the situation demands. Then, enemies who all belong to the same faction will have access to additional powers. The example we were shown was a group of necromancers – a warrior and two mages of different schools – dynamically starting a sacrificial summoning ritual to hold off the player party.
Monsters also have special abilities. Spriggans will possess and enhance any woodland predators that stray nearby, and spiders will eat their slain allies to gain strength. Lovely.

Sounds better than Skyrim

PC Gamerwrote...
The skill system sits somewhere between Skyrim and Guild Wars 2, with select improvements over both. As in Skyrim, levelling up in TESO earns you a boost to either health, stamina or magicka and a skill point to spend. You start the game with a selection of skill lines based on your class, race, and equipment. Examples from the weapons group would be

A lot more info.

Massively released a video with info.

For people who don't wanna watch it.

  • - "Immersive" story with lore continuity from TES console games
  • - Real time combat that gets rid of rotations
  • - Focus on making it a premium service, aka there's probably gonna be a subscription
  • - Exploration based content - tasks can be solved in a variety of ways and have choices
  • - 16 launch zones, each with a 4-player dungeon, and each dungeon having a max-level alternate version
  • - Enemies use synergies - e.g. one enemy lays down a tar that slows you, another can light it on fire
  • - Players also have synergies - e.g. one player uses the Nova skill, another player can interact with it to turn it into the Supernova skill
  • - Combat is similar to single player TES games - tap left mouse for a light attack, hold it for a heavy attack, hold right mouse to block.
  • - Also has double tap to dodge, a 5 slot skill bar, 1 slot for a consumable, and 1 slot for an ultimate skill
  • - Leveling up allows you to improve health, stamina, or magicka, like Skyrim
  • - Stat points can be respecced
  • - Abilities don't have cooldowns, but each ability uses a resource (martial abilities use stamina, magical use magicka)
  • - You can select skills from skill trees when you level up.
  • - Each tree has active and passive abilities
  • - Active abilities can be slotted in your skill bar, but you only have 5 slots so you have to made decisions as you accrue more and more abilities
  • - Initially, you'll only have 3 trees: class, weapon, and armor.
  • - Each skill tree has subsections, for instance, the sorcerer class tree has dark magic, daedric summoning, and stormcalling skill lines.
  • - While you only start with 3 trees, around 15 total will be available at launch, including world (which has a vampire line), guild (as in mages/fighters/thieves), racial, alliance vs. alliance, etc.
  • - Skill points cannot be respecced, but players will have enough points to fill every tree.
  • - Items called Skyshards will be placed around the world, collecting 3 of them will grant you a skill point.
  • - Using skills ranks them up, and at rank 4 you get a morph choice that alters the way the skill works. The example given was a fireball that could either add AOE or sacrifice initial damage for increased damage over time.
  • - Morph choices can be respecced
  • - "Finesse" is a way of getting players to pay attention to the game.
  • - In combat, finesse will be rewarded based on well-timed blocks, accurate attacking, and skillful dodging.
  • - Finesse adds a positive modifier to experience and loot drops.
  • - Swinging your sword wildly means you won't get any finesse.
  • - There will be mounts in the game but they're not ready to talk about them.
  • - No player housing currently planned.
  • - Eliminating the holy trinity is not one of their goals.
  • - Healing spells are AOE/conal.
  • - Some skills may cause guards to attack you (vampirism?), but the devs won't discuss that because they want players to find out themselves.
  • - Mac OS supported at launch.
  • - Racial crafting styles exist.
  • - No dyeing system.
  • - No official controller support, but the game works well with a pad and free software.
  • - Full add-on support.
  • - Disguises are dropped by enemies and allow you to avoid being attack by certain enemy types.

So after all this time it's just another MMO but with ES in the name. Still a quilt of zones rather than the open world ES games are known for, still instanced dungeons requiring multiple players, still the "Holy Triad" of tank, dps and heals, so no matter what your preference you'll end up filling one of three roles.

Finesse? My loot changes because I killed someone "better" according to someone else's opinion? Silly. I pay plenty of attention to my ES singleplayer games, and I don't need finesse to help me, or punish me becuase I don't play according to the developer's preference. Age of Conan also has something of a finesse system but it's built-in and more brutal: if you don't do things skillfully you tend to die; you get treasure if you manage to defeat your foe. Imagine that!

I'm done with MMOs and this game isn't going to change that for me. The graphics wrapping changes from game to game, but gameplay ends up feeling mostly the same. If someone else ends up having fun with the game, more power to them. I'm just burned out, and content to enjoy singleplayer games. Raiding felt like a second job anyway, and that's one of the two things these games tend to boil down to (the other being PVP careers).

What exactly does "real time combat that gets rid of rotations" mean?
