So, I used the Bioware approved method of separating the function originally served by the space bar into three separate keys, one for jump/dodge/cover, one for sprint, and one for use item. After doing that I tried some combinations of movements that weren't possible before with everything combined in one key, and discovered some weirdness. The first one is one that I think you can see without modifying the action key, it's if you hold down Forward and Strafe Left at the same time, then holding down the Sprint key has no effect, you are still going diagonally leftwards at the normal run speed. But if you hold down Forward and Strafe Right at the same time, then hold down the Sprint key, your speed increases as you would expect. However, if you first hold down Forward, then hold down Sprint, and then either Strafe Left or Right, they both work and you can go diagonally left and right at the faster speed.
Another weird behavior that seems related (this one you can't observe without separating the keys), is if you hold down Forward, Strafe Right, and Sprint, so that you are sprinting forward-right, and then you tap the dodge key, you can dodge without releasing any of the other keys, so you go straight from sprinting to dodging. But you can't do this if you are either sprinting forward or forward-left. In both those cases, you have to release the sprint key, then wait about half a second, and then you can dodge. Weird, huh? I think this is particularly annoying as you have to time it perfectly when you go from sprinting to dodging or vice versa, because if you do it too quickly then the second action won't have an effect.
