I like how Elder Scrolls let me imagine A LOT.

Its what I want out of these games.

I actually , IMO, love the Bethseda series. I don't play much Oblivion since ..well I die all the time.
But Oblivion & Skyrim?
Wtf?!

These games allow me to use my imagination. Let me imagine anything I would want to.
Instead of stories already being crammed up your ass.

Just my opinion though c;

Bethesda's lack of roleplaying in Oblivion and Skyrim is disappointing to me, but they are world building on a scale that Dragon Age games can't compete with when it comes to crafting, magic and unique character leveling. They do a pretty good job with making games that play well and have interesting premises. Bioware has had a game or two that lacked in the story department as well (NWN comes to mind rather quickly) but held up in gameplay and depth as far as mechanics go.

It's a shame that the rare gem such as Morrowind or Baldur's Gate don't come about more often with a balance of story and gameplay depth. Skyrim is pretty close, but thank goodness for the Creation Kit, at least player modders can fix a few things. DA 2 was such a train wreck for me because it was rushed, simplified in story and especially gameplay and even lacked a game editor, completely extinguishing the creative community aspect of DA:O or NWN, leaving only the diehard studio fans to sing it's praises.

That's odd, because I'm not a "diehard studio fan" and I think DA ][ was a great game.

*sigh* why do people always feel the need to be so insulting in these threads?

It's the BSN generalization game! Fun for the whole family!

All Talimancers are creepy!
All Renegades are evil and horrible!
All anti-ending people are whiny, entitled, and don't understand "art"!

And those are just some of the ME-related ones! Feel free to make assumptions about lots of other groups of people!

Also, in reference to the above, that the landscape is positively littered with such objects for me to accidentally pick up.

What? They don't attack you if you pick up stuff outside, unless it's something at a stand or something.

They attack you if what you're picking up is "owned" by somebody, which makes picking it up "stealing."

As opposed to a profusion of other objects that might be sitting nearby, abandoned by their owners and thus outside the reach of whatever instantaneous telepathy tells everybody I'm picking things up.

Didn't mean landscape quite literally, there. Just more generally, my surroundings at a given time in a settlement.

What I meant was, I'm tempted to make a generalization about how totally wrong and FAIL the people who like the endings are.

Because I see it all the time here.

Yeah, fighting the good fight against generalizations is all well and good - but there's just one problem:

Talimancers are creepy.

Now now, let's not be too judgmental, we too have our own generalizations to fight.

*cough* Yes, that...that I can ignore.

Though I'll admit, I thought Liara's "I've always secretly been in love with you, Shepard, allow me to rest my head on your shoulder for a moment or two" scene was very very sweet.

It doesn't have a thing to do with insults. The fact you feel insulted might say more about you than it does about what I wrote, for I never intended it as an insult. Some people just get attached to a label, it happens all the time regardless of what that lebel represents. Appeal can mean many things. Regardless, if I insulted you it wasn't my intention and I apologize.

I wasn't saying you were insulting me in particular; rather, that you were insulting fans of the game by saying they clearly couldn't have liked the game for its merits and only could have because they were "diehard studio fans."

Which is patently false.

Ah, well good then. It's highly debatible which would constitute "merits" since it's all personal opinion and aesthetics and some people have widely discerning tastes. But, let's get back on topic.

I don't think Bethesda is bad at story telling.

I always thought all of those were true, especially the anti-ender one. I know Game Informer readers seem to think so.
