Over the course of the series, it was made apparent that the Reapers periodically wipe out advanced civilisations. It was later revealed that they harvest organics, 'storing' them in Reaper form. This cycle has continued for an undeterminably long time (something greater than 37 million years). And now, here comes Shepard and his band of stalwart companions to put a stop to it all.

The nagging doubt in the back of my mind all along was this: Do we (Shepard) have the right to do that? What gives us the authority to break this cycle that has continued since humanity's ancestors were little more than rodent-like mammals hiding underground? Why should we act so rashly, inspired by nothing but a naïve instinct for self-preservation?

Harbinger said it himself. "That which you know as Reapers are your salvation through destruction". Why struggle in the face of inevitability? Why resist ascension? We see the Reapers as sinister, menacing and evil because all we see is the destruction they bring. But they exist on a level we cannot comprehend, and can never hope to. Are their motives really so simple?

The conversation with the Catalyst brought these latent worries and concerns to fruition. The short-sightedness of destroying the Reapers became clear. Without them, the groundskeepers in the verdant fields of our galaxy, organic life would overgrow in a sea of chaos, eventually becoming consumed by synthetics. Weeds, a pestilence that must be contained. Not wanting this end to befall all that I know and love, I chose to combine organic and synthetic life, so that both my coexist.

But this is what the Reapers wanted all along. This is their purpose. My subconscious intuitions, brought to the fore by the catalyst, have caused me to do their bidding.

How did this happen? I've put every effort into fighting them, stopping or forestalling their machinations. Without realising it, I have joined their side. I see their importance, I understand that they must exist, and that the cycle must continue. My mind could not be swayed so. Unless...

I'm indoctrinated. Not just Shepard, but me personally. I've become a servant of the Reapers. I feel compelled to do their bidding. Their suggestions, Harbinger's suggestions, have guided my actions.

Organics would now see me as part of the enemy, they must destroy me lest I hinder their efforts. But is indoctrination really such curse to be feared and purged? I now see the universe as it truly is. Where others see only destruction in the Reapers, I see creation. I see the future of organics. Our destiny. Organics consider the indoctrinated to be evil because they serve the Reapers, whose purpose appears sinister. But the Reapers exist for our own good, in a way that organics cannot comprehend. They call it indoctrination. I call it enlightenment.
