Toughest fights in SP?

Grissom Academy, after meeting Jack. Guess it's because of the area design rather than the enemies, but always gives me trouble
3 Geth Primes on Rannoch
Final battle with Reaper Destroyer, Banshees and Brutes.

That, and resisting the urge to toss my controller at the TV for the above.

Grissom Academy - Mainly because the (admittedly well-designed and challenging) fire fight is prone to bugging by shutting the doors before your squaddies get through... with the result of having to reload or do the whole fight by yourself.
And... the last part of Priority: Eden Prime, mainly because it seems my initial playthrough was apparently bugged and the Atlas got dropped far way near the trucks, nice and easy to engage. This time through it dropped right behind me, next to the Prothean Pod, where I'd assume it was intended to drop. That give me a bit of a shock

Doubtless, designer of that feature had worked within approved specifications; even so he must have had an off day.

1. Kai Leng boss fight. I must have died about 3-4 times on him.
2. Lauchnig the missiles at the Reaper Destroyer in the final battle on London. All those Banshees plus the the reaper lazer being difficult to dodge for me
3. The ampitheatre fight in Grissom Academy.

^ speaking of the earth mission has anyone killed all the banshees and brutes . . . I usually clear them out some then run to missile and launch it. . . .same with genophage mission has anyone tried killing all the brutes and if so do they keep respawning , I dodge them and the reaper and just hit the hammers. . . Anyone?
Brutes don't respawn on Tuchanka, I kill them all with biotic explosions. As far as the Thanix missiles go, just survive for 2-3 minutes, EDI says targetting is fixed, job done.

Well, yeah, that.
Combat-wise though, if we're talking fair, well-designed, legit difficult fights, I agree with Grissom amphitheatre. Though weirdly enough, the second time I played that I breezed right through and then nearly lost the students during the Atlas bit at the end, which I found super-easy the first time. Insanity both times, and same class, even. Don't know what happened there.
Defending the missiles in London is also brutal.
There are also some bullspit fake difficulty fights, that are hard because of poor instruction or interface screw or both, like the Reaper on Rannoch or the last bit with Marauder Shields and his zombie trio, but I think that's a different sort of thing.

Otherwise the Grissom atrium fight is pretty tough. The comment above about your squad not following through the doors is an annoyance to be sure. The ways I have found to prevent that are to proceed straight forward at less than sprint and they are more likely to come through. The issue seems to be that when the doors open and they see enemies, they take cover behind the door, and if Shep moves too far from the door it shuts. The squad will warp in eventually, but their location when they do is usually out of cover where they can get killed quickly.
The 3 Primes on Rannoch is also tough, but interestingly in my last game it was fairly easy. The biggest problem I would have in that one was not being able to get into the cover in front of the elevator and getting stun-locked. An odd issue. But since you are forced to take Tali on that mission, make sure she has max Sabotage and use it on one of the Primes right away. I like to use it on the one to the right, which allows me to make my way to the right for a better spot. Then just sabotage and kill them in order.
Otherwise the next irritating one is the hall on Sanctuary after you climb a ladder that has cannibals, marauders and 3 ravagers supported by barrier generators. It is irritating because of the shape of the cover, the grenades, and the ease at which Ravagers can target you.
Defending the missile battery can also be difficult. The good news is you just have to wait around then push a button for the final wave.

I won't lie, Banshees scared the crap out of me throughout the entire campaign. Including Earth. So when I saw how many of them I had to fight, plus the Brutes, Marauders and Cannibals... it has to be one of the worst fights in my gaming history. Almost broke my screen with rage because of it!
But that's just me.
Nah, not just you. A was enraged with "do-everything-spacebar" in combinations like these. Phantoms, on the contrary, weren't that difficult - like I said, GPS made bringing knives to gunfight (kudos to Garrus) obsolete. Of course I had my share of running with Kai Lame (yet GPS saved my Shepard's skin again). At Grissom's worst fight for me was Jack's hall with first Atlas: Liara was in her usual condition - dead, and Javik tried to reenact "Garrus stopping missile with his face", only not as successful.
Combat in amphitheatre felt easier somehow, dunno why, even second stage, where Liara continued to deaditate in the yard and Javik heroically tried to shoot Cerberus troops through several metres of concrete. I know Particle Rifle is good, but not that good.
Other fights were irritating, like capn233 said. Or infuriating, given my temper.

Priority: Tuchanka - not because it was specifically tough, just that the game did a horrendous job of explaining how to proceed, so it boiled down to a tedious 7-reload trial and error exercise.

Or in other wards Your shepard had to change his shorts after getting back to the Normandy.
Grissom Academy is a pain cause of the layout of the area you have to fight in.
Before I forget Priority Tuchanka was also a pain towards the end cause of all those damn brutes you dodge one and get hit by on of the others and your squad does more running around then shooting most times I felt like I was on a solo mission.

3 Primes on Rannoch
Kai Leng
Last wave on Earth
There's definitely a way around all of these, but if you miss your timing or something goes a little wrong, you get to try again

Probably cause there is no really defensible spot to bunker down in there is always a way for the Cerberus troops to flank you without you knowing till you get shot in the back.
i guess ya lol and sometimes i run towards the shuttle a little too early and get stuck with centurions spawning on top of me lol
