Agreed for much of our current culture, it's hard for us to say what will "stick".  Though I think ME1 broke new ground, it'll likely be known to game historians of the next century.
I'd like to believe that if ME3 had ended on a heroic high note (aka: hero's journey story) then it would have a better chance of being rememberd.

Maybe, but the majority of Bioware games don't get known throughout the years.  When I first learned of and told people about ME, we told them and were told it was another KOTOR attempt.

You can argue or lament in any case, but ME wasn't that phenominal.  Infact, I'm not even sure what will get remembered in a hundred years.

Maybe we should make a time capsule?

I fondly remember Shattered Steel and Baldur's Gate.  Sadly, I doubt many games we all know and love today will be remembered in 100 years.  How much of the early 1900's culture --much less what games they played-- does the "common man" know?

And does it matter?  No, not really.   I don't love ME series becuase I think it'll be remembered in 100 years, I love it becuase it's a fun universe to play in and Shepard's heroes journey.   If ME3 must be the end, then it deserves a better ending.  Shepard deserves to go out like a hero instead of a lamb.

I didn't game on the PC except to play Command and Conquer and TIE Fighter.

I spent the longest portion of my gaming youth on Jurassic Park on the Genesis, South Park on the N64, and then Morrowind on the xbox. I put over 2000 hours into Morrowind, I still have a copy of it for the consoles, as I'm paranoid and not using my laptop for gaming.

Yes, I too spent way too much time in those games.  I wouldn't say I was a "youth" at the time.

why assume they're stranded on the planet? Or that they're there alone? It's somewhere within regular FTL range of Sol... for all we know other ships from the battle have landed there as well. It would be odd to think Joker and the Normandy are the only ones that attempt to outrun what is happening with the relay... i am sure they all scattered every which way... Not a big stretch to think some went joker's way as well..

They also adressed this via twitter and explained that noone is stranded anywhere. FTL is slower than the relays but still very viable.

That's why I label it an interpretation. Without information all I can do is speculate.

As for being stranded........the Normandy doesn't really look fit to fly.

Plotholes are like glitches. I romanced Liara in LotSB, but it didn't come up in ME3 because of a glitch. Nevertheless, I personally know it happened. During the end of the game, Joker and the rest of the crew wouldn't and couldn't abandon Shepard like that, so I know it didn't happen.

Yes, well I just had a conversation with a producer about three hours ago............

Contradictions abound ladies and gentlemen............

He wanted a literal interpretation of an open ending like Inception or The Matrix.

The implications........

I... Just....

in order to do that they had to introduce smoke and mirrors to change/muddle themes in the game that were already present......

....Why?....

...It just..... Points back to your posts, about Hubris and insulting the audience.......

Completely baffling....

Yeah, I'll talk about it on Monday.

He mentioned Inception and The Matrix and then told me that all the interpretations of the endings were supposed to be the same.

That isn't an Open Ending.

Pity I'll interpret it as such.

I still can't believe someone stole The Scream... I guess they arrested the guy when he called the Samaritians after looking at it for too long.

I just want to ask, why does the gaming industry have such a hard-on for the medium to be considered art?

Why should we care that some people who just don't care call games art or not? Would playing games become amazingly amazing tomorrow just because some curator at some gallery said games were art? Of course they bloody wouldn't...

Back in 2008, I was in Oslo for business, and I saw the Scream painting in the museum.  It is really good, though I'm pretty sure I would have not known it was a good painting unless someone told me.  I also went to the Munch museum.  Good times.

Good question, I have no idea.  Maybe people feel disrespected when someone says otherwise....idk.

Though there is an art of video games exhibit at the Smithsonian Art museum, I plan on checking it out sometime this year.

Whats wrong with a literal interpretation, it is still an interpretation right? I feel like that means you take everything at face value and try to draw conclusions from that.  No reading deep into symbolism or anything, right?  I may not be understanding something.  Did you mean he wanted something sans speculation?  You can still have a literal interpretation with speculatoin, but doing it literally really limits your options.

I had two beers tonight...... I'm fairly certain I'm still thinking clearly..........

He said the the interpretation of the end was the same among everyone.............while saying that the ending was supposed to be open ended a la The Matrix and Inception.

Communication breakdown maybe?

He must have enjoyed our conversation because he made a very pleasent tweet about it afterword that was Retweeted by Mr. Priestly.

Wait, what..??

I assume by "everyone" he meant the dev team.... and a literal interpretation (from my perspective)would be that we have no idea what the f*ck just happened, more importantly we dont even know why it all just happened... it just did.

So.. they were all in consensus about not knowing what the f*ck was going on???

??

I... Im soo perplexed as-to... I cant even put my feelings 100% into words ....

...instilling confusion is art?... attempting to introduce something  Abstract, into something that was very literal...

....Why would that be a good idea?... How could it be a good idea?....

... I just.....  dont even know what to say right now..
