The title refers to my latest playthrough of Mass Effect 2. Basically, I'm a ps3 gamer (this may seem like a strange way to begin - first post by the way - but it's going somewhere), so I've never played Mass Effect. I was always stuck with the default settings, which I don't like that much (Wrex dead, council sacrificed etc). And the version of Mass Effect 2 I have is pre-owned, but nevertheless came bundled with the cerberus network redemption code, which I never tried, as I assumed the previous owner would have used it. Afew days ago I tried it on a whim and it hadn't been previously redeemed! This meant I could download the cerberus pack (meaning new weapons, zaeed and, crucially, the genesis comic, which allows you to make some key choices from Mass Effect).

I couldn't resist doing a new playthrough; choosing all different settings, eagre to see how they'd affect my playthrough, and subsequently my next playthrough of Mass Effect 3 (the endings of that game don't really tarnish the fun of variable-messing for me). Well, I saved Kaidan on Virmire, kept Wrex, saved the council etc, and got to work. Was a fantastic playthrough, as it always is...20 hours of gripping joy.

Disaster struck during the suicide mission. Hold the line. Left behind a loyal Garrus and Grunt to defend, but not a hugely strong crew otherwise. Destroyed the human-reaper thing, and then saw, to my profound and sharply incising horror, Tali's corpse left behind by the line holders; the Collectors' unworthy insectoid feet practically crawling over her. I felt so shocked and devastated. I wanted everyone to survive! Also, Tali is such a fantastic character in Mass Effect 3...A file without her would not be worth playing in my opinion. The idea of that inglorious end for lovely Tali was too much (sorry if I sound slightly deranged here). Anyway, it rather soured the experience for me.  Worse was the guilt...I got her exonerated at the trial, thus losing the opportunity for her loyalty. I thought her death was threfore my fault. I immediately checked the guide on this very site, to see if anything could remedy the problem. I realised the simple arithmetic involved in deciding who lives or dies at the line holding section, and realised if I left Thane (who I took with me to fight the human-reaper) to the defend the door, and took, say, Kasumi (a weak defender) then the average strength of my squad would be just enough for everyone to live!

Anyway, I went to the load screen and selected "restart suicide mission", and this time...it all went perfectly. Tali lived! :D. The point is, it's the closest I've ever been to feeling like Superman reversing time to save Lois Lane...Incredible the attachment you can feel to a fictional character.

I also have a similar story involving Tali in Mass Effect 3 haha, but I don't think I can put it here due to spoilers. That's about it really. Thanks for reading ;)
