I hate them and don't play them because they are annoying and faceroll. (And I do know how to play them well.)

If you hate Vanguards, then don't play multiplayer. It's that simple. They're part of the game. If you're so great at multiplayer and above playing with bad players, then you should be playing Gold with your elite team of friends.

Every class has people who think they are Like a Boss! on them because of bronze and never loose that conception no matter how many times they get owned in silver or gold. The problem Vanguards have is the fact that due to how they work they are the most noticeable.

4 good infiltrators equals win on any map any enemy with about 20 min and less and the enemies will drop like flies. You admit that vanguards die a lot and that means that you are forcing your teammates out of cover to revive you and you put the whole team in danger while infiltrators have very high survivability and they are usually the rez-ponies on the team so they will save you.

I have nothing against Vanguards in general; I simply think that for using them in a gold match, people should remember that they can't play 'em as if they're in a silver.

Yesterday I was in a gold match and one guy was using a human male Vanguard: he died tons of times after wave 5 and died alone miles away from the extraction point just a few seconds before the end of the match: I think those people should change the way to play Vanguard, cause it can't be used as for a silver or bronze.
This means nothing except that player needs to learn how to play on gold with a Vanguard.

I'm not saying it's simple to do, but for example a friend of mine uses Vanguard on gold almost everytime and does it well, cooperating with the others and not trying to kill everyone alone even if on the opposite side of the map.

So not everyone who plays a Vanguard must be kicked from the game, but people should be sure about what they're doing before trying a gold match using a Vanguard.

And then there's that terrible Vanguard bug, which makes also the best Vanguard simply useless...

Dying a lot is the result of inefficiency, which kills teams, OP.

High risk, high reward.  If a skilled Vanguard makes a mistake (nobody is perfect) and dies, do not refuse to resurrect them purely on the basis that they are a Vanguard.

Low risk, moderately high reward > High risk high reward.

At this point most people have good guns, there isn't a valid reason to be playing a vanguard if you are going to die.

As someone who plays an Asari VG and a Krogan BM on the side, screw Vanguards. I have bugged enough times to know that even if you do everything right, you can still pooch a run, which is unfair to your team mates. If you are doing Silver or Bronze and with people who you know or are otherwise willing to reel in your slack, then fine have at it. Keep that crap out of gold. Its just not even funny anymore.

I'm seeing people talk about how "nobody" plays Vanguards on Silver/Gold (which is not true) or how "nobody SHOULD play them" because "they die a lot" or "they get all the kills".  Let me break it down for you one time!

- This is a Co-Op Game.  That means four people are Working Together to Win.  Points are meaningless unless you are an insecure manchild (or womanchild).

- Following that, Each Team Member Has A Role.  A "team" does not mean "four Salarians with sniper rifles" because at some point you will start dying and you will either take forever to complete a wave because you have to keep running away, getting one shot off, running away, etc.

- Following that, The Role of A Vanguard is to Get In Faces and Kill Things.  Vanguards on any level, including Gold, will typically have a lot of kills and a lot of points.  That is Their Job because they are Good At It (if they know how to play the class, of course).

- Following that, Yes, Vanguards Die More Than Other classes.  That is Not Because They Are Bad, it is because They Are Getting In Faces And Killing Things.  I just killed the entire first spawn of the wave, but got killed by a Marauder I didn't notice.  Don't be a jerk and refuse to revive me - I did you a huge favor by killing those guys!

- If you think that it is a Bad Thing that someone is killing more things than you, then you Do Not Understand Teamwork.  If all you want to do is top out the points board, take your Widow X to Bronze and solo it.  I GUARANTEE you will be the points leader!

Now look, I know there are lots of bad Vanguard players.  But there are just as many bad snipers or adepts as well!  Asari Adepts should Probably Not Use A Widow!

Also, please be aware that If You Are Not the Host of the Match, You Should Not Play Vanguard Ever.  This is just a straight fact.  If you're not the host, even a little bit of lag will get you killed - or worse, you will glitch out and fall through the floor, never to be seen again until the end of the match.

DO NOT PLAY VANGUARD UNLESS YOU ARE HOSTING, PERIOD.  If you do, DO NOT CHARGE or BE PREPARED TO LAG OUT.

Thanks and have a great day!

:devil::alien::innocent:-_-:wizard::wub::police::?

-If points are meaningless why do the majority of people looking to validate their build say I top the score board for this build?
-A team is any group of people working towards a common goal
-You don't do me a favor by killing everyone on the map, so you can stay down while I finish the rest of the wave
-Or you could use a vanguard and force your team to be your personal medic.
-If an adept is bad, the only downside is that they don't kill stuff, if a vanguard is bad you have to me their personal medic.

Or kick them from lobby or leave yourself, I'm not great at Multiplayer I'd rather have someone other than a vanguard watching my back.

-Because those people are there to polish their E-penis and not care about their team mates, and for acceptance of die hard nerds.

-You don't do me a favor by killing everyone on the map, so you can stay down while I finish the rest of the wave

-umm thats why you ress dem guards unless their miles away, only a stupid guard would naturally go too far

-Or you could use a vanguard and force your team to be your personal medic.

-I am usually using a Kroguard or HV, sometimes AV. and i am usually the first in the team to have the 10 or 15 revives on gold because i am the one doing the pick ups. Whos the personal medic? more like your the teams only medic -.-

-If an adept is bad, the only downside is that they don't kill stuff, if a vanguard is bad you have to me their personal medic.

-True but if the adept is bad and the only biotic detonator in team he can screw over theam simply by ignoring key targets. forcing vanguards or soldiers to clean up after them.

pretty sure people do not hate "vanguards" per se.
but DUMB VANGUARDS..
those who are level 15+.. use super heavy weapons (who the hell uses a WIDOW and a CLAYMORE at same time as VANGUARD??)
just to rush into a huge bulk of enemies... and die because they cannot do their powers on time..

Personally I love vangaurds they take the heat off me while I'm trying to get away. Plus it seems as if the boss enimies like banshees, brutes, and geth primes always go after them first, which gives me the oppertunity to flank them.

Vangaurds keep doing what you guys do best, I love it !!

Yeah, no.  Still really irritating trying to attack anyone when they keep getting blown all over the place by biotic charges.  Can't get a bead on anyone because they keep bouncing around, not to mention my camera shaking from the charge, as well.

And apologies, I didn't realize how old this thread was.

This thread is a bit TL;DR, but OP has a point. Vanguards, when played properly, by a team player, are very helpful. I for one play as a Human Vanguard a lot, for a while, she was my most played character.

My typical MO was to equip the Scimitar X (200% recharge) and, after coordinating with an adept, use charge as the driving force to put me in the middle of a crowd, setting of a biotic explosion on impact -- shoot a few faces off, maybe punch someone while Charge recharges, then fly back to safety and let the heavy gunners clean up the disorientated mess.

Even on Gold, this works beautifully -- its all about teamwork.
Help the Vanguard help you.

P.S. also, something I've done a lot, is used Charge to rescue a downed teamate.

Ghosts n ghouls.

Vanguards belong duder. No class actually takes more skill (exception of KV) to A) be the lead scorer and B) not be a liability dying all over the map.

Most MP Vanguards simply aren't good with them. My friend Crimson Vanguard for example: I can compete with him on the scoreboard most of the time with most kits - I find his game to be similar to mine in terms of skill, although I think he is inarguably the better player.

Why? He can Vanguard on my host. I cannot on his. Get it?

Let me break this down for you.

-- it is not fair for a class to be so overpowered that it gets the majority of the kills

--  it is not fun for other players in the game to watch somebody else flying around the map getting the majority of the kills

--  it is not balance for one class to be so overpowered that they can get the majority of the kills.

In general vangods and shooty classes are vastly overpowered (especially infiltrators) when compared to casters (particularly to biotics) and need a great big nerf stick.  Of couse that will never happen as Bioware for some time has been all about pimping out shooty classes and nerfing biotics. :wizard:

Ah yes. The days before classes could carry 500 grenades.
