And it's in conjunction with Child's Play.

Wow. Just...wow. Child's Play had a crap fit when Retake wanted to use the charity to draw attention to the ending. And now BioWare is partnering with them? If that's not deliberately rubbing salt in the wound, I don't know what is. I can support something like Child's Play. I have zero problem with helping kids. But isn't this taking things too far? How can BioWare claim to care about the fans when they do something like this?

Mods, if this is the wrong forum, please tell me which is the right one. I figured general discussion would be appropriate.

There has been one or two marathons like this in the past. This is not something new. My guess is that Bioware is obliged , legally, through some sort of contract to particiapte in a number of events that had been scheduled some time ago. It may also explain Childs Play's reluctance to associate themselves with the Retake movement as they may have had contractual agreements with Bioware. You know, confilct of interests and all that.

This is a longstanding event that we've always tried to push people in the direction of, because they do good work and donate money to charity. They are not affiliated with us in any way.

If you see this as salt in the wound, I really don't know what to say. This is something that's been around for a long, long time. BioWare tweets about it because we feel it's a good cause.

I'm honestly surprised that anyone could take offense to this.

Honestly ... nothing that Retakers do surprises me anymore.

The only problem with the "Retake" drive was that it was causing confusion. According to CP, they were getting a lot of people donating under the impression it was some kind of pledge drive to fund a new ending for the game. Obviously, it wasn't that.

Donation drives for Child's Play are just fine. However, they have to be *about* getting money for the children. Not about peeing in someone else's cheerios.

I was waiting for this topic to appear...even though Bioware has partnered with Child's Play previously. But you know, everything Bioware does is obviously supposed to be either a P.R. stunt or slap in the face to Retake.

Why didn't EA/BioWare support the fan donation initiative when it received unfair media coverage? EA has been using the fundraiser to drum up attention for other things not quite related to donations in the past.

What reason would they have to support them?

Because the media has accused the fundraising initiative exactly of what EA has been guilty of 'for a long, long time'.

I'm just surprised they couldn't relate.
