For those of you implying that roleplaying games are not for me. Let me list the bioware games i have played. BG1 and 2 Kotor JE ME DA:O. I have experience with bioware games. I infact love to roleplay. However, i only enjoy roleplaying a goodie two shoes. I dont have fun playing an evil character at all. That is how i play. I don't mock how you play. Also how many of you commenting on achievements and how you don't get them play on an Xbox? I'm guessing that takes atleast half of you out. There is infact among console players a significant percentage of players that like achievements or trophies to some degree. This is a respectable percent of gamers alot of them core gamers. Don't mock what you don't understand.

lmao, you do realize that the PC version has achievements right? And many Steam games, reardless if they're developed by Valve or not implement their own meta Steam achievements, which may or may not be the same as the original ingame ones.

And you still fail to explain how achievements that lock in your class and party members are any less limiting of "how you play the game" than being nice to a guy in camp and then watching a skippable cutscene. In fact, after you get it, you can reload from your last save if you're worried about your pixellated travelling companions thinking you're TEH GAYZ.

Honesty don't see the point in the achievement system at all, I'm not knocking it as such, but this is a SP game, who cares what anyone else did or didn't do, and why would someone want to force themselves to RP in a way they don't wish to to get some symbol, in a SP game, where it's just you and there for your own enjoyment and fun. I hope not offending anyone, I guess I just don't really see the point of them *shurg*

So if they are going to make romance achievements, they should just do one which is type of universal achievement. Like I said, no one has to do anything(or anyone) they wouldn't normally want to do, and everyone is gets what they want.

But you can play as a male and get a ramance achievement for both Morrigan and Leliana. I'm not really seeing the big issue here.

It's really no more dorky than your screen name, though I suppose that's a slightly different type of dorky. :) Anyhoo, I guess I kind of agree with you... I'm in the same general age range and agree... I mean I think that getting achievements is fun... but I've never understood the drive to get ALL of them for one game... seems a bit strange.

Nothing strange about it all my friend.

Do you strive to reach the end of your games? This is no different, except you have even more challenge(in most achievement cases) to get even more from the game.

Gamerscore for me is nothing, I just enoy the achievements. But highscores have been around since the days of Space Invaders in the arcades all those years ago.

You're not the only one. There's a logical fallacy in saying that DA:O requires you to play a "certain way" to get specific (in this case romance)  achievements whereas Mass Effect didn't, when the OP references how they ignored the renegade achievement because they didn't want to play as a renegade. I'm starting to agree with the poster on page 2 who thinks that the OP just has issues with the fact that there are certain things in this game that may not agree with them.

Okay, I'm not mocking you and i think it's fine whether or not someone enjoys unlocking achievements but, it seems to me, for someone to obsess about doing "certain" things they don't want to do to get them is... off the wall. Unlock them if you want to or continue to complain... they're still there. and you should get over it and get some fresh air. Relax...

It's not the same though... I'm not talking about the desire to get SPECIFIC achievements - do a certain damage, complete the game in a certain way, etc... I'm talking about the desire to get ALL achievements. I play my games to completion because I want to see the end of the story... and if the game is good enough I play it a second time to see how my different choices would affect things. The achievements are just gravy. But, you aren't going to see me completing all six of the origins or playing through as every possible class permutation just to collect all the mastery achievements or all the origin achievements. It's that behavior that I don't understand. At a certain point you stop playing the game to play the game and start playing to add more shiny virtual badges to your collection.

Though, perhaps this is just a reflection of the fact that as I've gotten older the time I have to play games has decreased... thanks in large part to grad school. If I actually tried to collect all the achievements for a game as vast as DA:O, I'd be finished roughly around the time that DA:2 came out.

The issue is with achievement completions.

As I stated, if there was just one achievement for romancing who ever you felt comftable with, no one would have a problem.

What you looking at is the way of choice, and rightly so. Do what you want to make sure you enjoy the most out of your games and be happy. But achievements are the new highscores, and people can mostly 100% there achievements in games without being stumped by sexuality, or how they connect with the character.

So again I will say. If in future BioWare wish to do romance achievements, they should stick to how they did it in Mass Effect. The achievement in that game allows you to romance which ever of you the characters you prefer, and no one gets weirded out.

Why do people even care about achievements? I mean, in ME they added bonuses, but in DA:O they are just fluff that is at best seen as nerdery even when taken to epic proportions (that guy getting all the WoW achievements for instance).

I just don't get it, but I guess some people must.

Yeah, in the future do that, BioWare... to spare the world of unhappy and unsatisfied gamers who want to enjoy your always awesome games. :P

Yeah, agreed.  I played all 6 origin stories to experience all 6.  The achievement was just gravy.

As to DA vs ME's achievements, I've got to say I far prefer DAs.  All the lame use this power 75 times crap in ME, blech, even if you can cheese them pretty easily.  Then there's the achievements that require completing the game multiple times, hardcore and the one after that, difficulty settings you have to unlock by completing the game, coupled with the game feeling like it has less options, so a bit less reason to replay the game.

If achievements are so important to you, there is a mod to unlock them all.

No need to thank me for the info. :-p

That's only for the PC isn't it? I believe the OP's in the XBOX.

I hate to sound pretentious or cliche, but I don't know of any other way to word my feelings on the matter:

I agree that DA:O has gone in a better direction here than ME. The major point of DA:O is the story. The main point of getting achievements is challenge. If I have to experience an uncomfortable or sad part of the story, than it is the story experience that is challenging, in a way. There are already many achievements for many games that definitely challenge us with boredom, so why not with story? It may challenge you to try to play a female character, something you may never have thought to do.

And it might not be so bad, after all ;)

The best stories (as in the most memorable) are ones that challenge the reader in some way.

Ah, forgive me... I forgot about to consider that as well! Never mind... still have issues, I see. but nonetheless this has been enlightening for me; however, take the achievements for what they are and deal with it. So sorry for you.

The achievements for creating a single item felt like an insult. Where is the ****ing achievement in that ?? Are we retarded children that needs petting on the head for doing trivial things ??

OOOHHHH YOU KNEW HOW TO START THE GAME !!! HERE'S AN ACHIEVEMENT FOR YOU !!

Pathetic.

I"m going to have to agree with a couple of the other posters, in that they say his issue is not with achievements themselves, but with the homosexuality part. I mean come on...you're saying you're alright romancing two different women, and possibly on the same play through? You're also comfortable with decapitating many mobs, and running them through as well as being covered in blood for 3/4 of the game...but romancing a dude is just plain horrible to you? Please help me to understand this? Get with the times my friend. It is not as if this isn't in your face on a daily basis. You don't have to be gay or female to unlock an achievement. Its a game, and it gives you the choice of doing these things. You've already stated you won't unlock the renegade achievement in ME, so whats the problem? Skip romancing Zev, and get on with the decapitations.

I know what you mean here,

Personally its not an issue of not liking women, its an issue of me connecting with the character. I am a male, so being a female in a game is too wierd for me, and if it wasn't for the romance achievements I would not have bothered.

Given the choice, I've always prefered a watching a female's hiney in the center of my screen over some hairy male butt. The character I play is NOT me, so I simply prefer to make it as asthetically pleasing as I can. Was a bit annoying finding out I had to make a make male toon to get Morri out, but for the greater good, it was worth it to make a hairy-ass. And no, making a male toon still didn't make me believe that the character was actually me, lol.

So instead of 2-4 achievements, you'd get only one.. Sounds boring, and with these romance achievements, it IS worth
pointing out how not every romance is as easy as the other. Some are
too easy for mentioning (visit The Pearl for those), some are simple
(Zev), while some are actually hard without a gift-guide and making
lots of savegames.
