Here's how we play the game - I'm sure devs are watching, but really this is just for fun.

Rate each of the companion ideas below with a 1-15 value, with 1 being the HIGHEST. You may only use each number value ONCE, however if there are one or  more proposed companions that you would absolutely not be interested in, you may label them with a -0-. Copy and paste the part below and add your answers, and feel free to add any comments - just for fun. You can write in a tenth option under "Other" - it can be an original suggestion or an existing NPC you'd like to travel with.

I tried to include companion options that haven't been done in the DA games yet as well as many ideas I've seen on this forum. If you have more than one unlisted idea, feel free to share all the rest of them after you've voted.

Just for fun, feel free to add a "Image IPB" next to the score of any ideas you'd be interested in seeing as a romance.
Let's play!

I can't put a score because it's really hard to tell without knowing their personality.

1.) A Human Templar
Score =
Comments:I'd like a templar if he/she 's a fair one.A templar who's all about "mages are evil" would bored me.But it would be interesting to have one of them along since the templars order 's going through a lot of changes.Could have a problem of lyrium withdrawal.

2.) A Human Tevinter Magister
Score =
Comments:Same as templar if he/she's not a stereotype.The evil blood mage magister hungry for power and slaves , no way.He can use blood magic but if it pick up where Merril was , like it doesn't have to be evil.He/she wouldn't have to be a sweetheart , he /she could mock the mages outside of Tevinter and be power hungry ...just not in a stupid way.

3.) A Human Chasind
Score =
Comments:I'd like to if we get an insight on their myth.I think they have mages /shaman ,might be interesting .

4.) A Human Orlesian Noble
Score =
Comments:I'm not fond of noble , but if we're going to Orlais we might have to deal with a lot of them.
Most orlesian noble we've met seemed full of themselves and kinda dumb.
Since there's a civil war in Orlais , and they practised something called "the game" , a vicious way to get rid of "ennemies" without an axe to the face, having a noble around might help understand what's going on.

5.) An Elven or Human Seeker
Score =
Comments:I'm not fond of seeker neither.But i'd like to have one if it helps us discover some secret about the chantry.I like the idea of the chantry hiding information about the blight etc...

6.) An Elven or Human Somniari (or "Dreamer")
Score =
Comments:I don't like playing in the fade ...same as above if he/she helps us understand the nature of this realm , why not.Otherwise it's just a mage who might be too dangerous for his/her own good.

7.) An Elven or Human Mage Loyalist (supports Chantry control of mages)
Score =
Comments:We already have Wynne who liked the Chantry.We could have a mage who doesn't like being one (a bit like Bethany) ,but not who's into masochism..."Smite me O maker for I was born a monster!blabla..."
I'd like to have a mage who's "normal ", not a blood mage , not an abomination , not pro/anti chantry ...Just a regular guy/girl with power.

8.) A Kossith Tal Vashoth / Kadan Fe Mercenary
Score =
Comments:I'm very curious about female Kossith , so i really hope to have one around.

9.) A Dwarven Lyrium Smuggling Boss (Male)
Score =
Comments: no idea .I like Dwarves but lyrium smugglers just means outlaw for me.

10.) A Dwarven Silent Sister (Female)
Score =
Comments:Since female dwarves were missing from DA2 , they should male a roaring come back.They were so cute!
As for the Silent sister , er...they're supposed to be silent , no?A companion you can't talk to would be wierd.I suppose your character and her could communicate with writing but I'm not convinced it would work .

11.) A Desire Demon
Score =
Comments:No.I don't see the point of it.Besides you're supposed to walk around people.It looked kinda stupid to be a mage with a staff and using your magic on the street in front of everyone without a problem.It would be far worse to have a demon around and nobody running for their lives.

12.) A Fog Warrior
Score =
Comments:Not really , if i remember they're just a bunch of people fighting the Imperium and the Qun on an island.

13.) A Fex
Score =
Comments:Don't know .They 're supposed to be another race from Par Vollen...I'm not sure because creating another race is risky and sometimes you end up with Lezard/tiger/fish people that just looks really stupid.
Depends ,I'm curious about it ,but since we don't know anything...i can't tell.

14.) A Tranquil
Score =
Comments:No.I don't remember tranquil fighting , besides they have no magic anymore and they're emotionless.An ex -tranquil , well , could be cool.

15.) Other
Score =
Explain Other:

As for romances , I can't tell , it depends on what kind of person the companion are , and what they look like ...

Call me old fashinoned, or boring, but I prefer a bit more "traditional" classes for those that my character travels with. Leave the exotic classes and specialties to people we meet along the way.

1.) A Human Templar
Score =  8
Comments: I think the templars have been enough explored through Alistair, mage origin, Avelines guy, DA2 and books and comics. If it can add something new to the templar organisation then go ahead. If not, then stop beating the horse.

2.) A Human Tevinter Magister
Score =  7
Comments: I don't know. If it fits the story.

3.) A Human Chasind
Score = 2
Comments: Sure. That would be cool. <3

4.) A Human Orlesian Noble
Score = 13
Comments: Meh. It seems to me that Bioware is just making the orlesians to fit the steorotype picture some people have of the french. It's kind of boring I think.

5.) An Elven or Human Seeker
Score = 4
Comments: Yeah. That could be cool. <3

6.) An Elven or Human Somniari (or "Dreamer")

8.) A Kossith Tal Vashoth / Kadan Fe Mercenary

9.) A Dwarven Lyrium Smuggling Boss (Male)

10.) A Dwarven Silent Sister (Female)

11.) A Desire Demon

12.) A Fog Warrior

13.) A Fex

14.) A Tranquil

Comments: Now that would be boring.

15.) Other

Explain Other: A poor little dark haired pretty woman, who is kind of beggar. She is a thief and pickpotter, and tries to steal everything she can carry. Thief thinks everybody steals, so she trusts nobody but herself. <3

Depends on how they're written.

I'd rather have a party that has a decent number of characters well connected to the place where the game takes place, rather than one where everyone is some oddball foreigner.

This.  Any of them could be interesting.  Any of them could be boring as snot.  I'm not picky as long as Anders doesn't make a reappearance as anything other than a corpse.  Walking corpse is acceptable.

Do not want: Pro-Chantry mage (associations with Wynne and Bethany make this a no-go for me - boring to the core), desire demon (demons in the party = bad idea), tranquil (emotionless companion = dull monotone = no thanks).

Everything else, I'm kind of indifferent about.

This list is a little too Chantry-heavy for my tastes, but I'm confident that BioWare will present a better balance than we're likely to cook up.

This. They've gone two games without making an appearance. Sure, the only Qunari that communicate with the outside world (non-conquered areas) are their warriors who are male, but we've encountered plenty of Kossith who have defected from the Qunari ways. Why not a female? Alternately, since companions have to fight, it would probably make most sense if she were a mage since mages, being animals, are not subject to Qunari gender role restrictions.

I like this idea. :D These characters have the potential to be really interesting. It's harder to choose which ones would make good romance options without personality details, so I'll just leave that blank for now and say the more options the better.

1.) A Human Templar
Score = 9
Comments: I don't care much for the templars myself, but it would add an interesting perspective to the war. It could also be an interesting conflict with a mage character.

2.) A Human Tevinter Magister
Score =  4
Comments: I've wanted to see Tevinter, or at least learn more about it, for a while now.

3.) A Human Chasind
Score = 2
Comments: It'd be cool to see more of the Chasind.

4.) A Human Orlesian Noble
Score = 14
Comments: Just doesn't seem so interesting in comparison to the others.

5.) An Elven or Human Seeker
Score = 5
Comments: Yeah, Cassandra was cool. A new Seeker could be too. I'd also like to see Cassandra again, companion or not.

6.) An Elven or Human Somniari (or "Dreamer")
Score = 1
Comments: I've always found this concept really interesting, so I'd like to see more of it.

7.) An Elven or Human Mage Loyalist (supports Chantry control of mages)
Score = 8
Comments: Same thing I said earlier about an interesting perspective on the war, but even more so than the templars.

8.) A Kossith Tal Vashoth / Kadan Fe Mercenary
Score = 3
Comments: Same thing I said about the Dreamers, always thought the Tal Vashoth were interesting. After speaking with one in DA2, I really wanted to see more of them.

9.) A Dwarven Lyrium Smuggling Boss (Male)
Score = 13
Comments: If my character can get lyrium from him, I'd like to see how that turns out.

10.) A Dwarven Silent Sister (Female)
Score = 12
Comments: Potential to be interesting and creepy at the same time.

11.) A Desire Demon
Score = 10
Comments: This could end up being too much like Morinth from ME2, where my character could never really feel like they trust this person. But then again, that could be interesting. Or maybe another type of demon could be explored here. I've already seen plenty desire demons.

12.) A Fog Warrior
Score = 6
Comments: It would be cool to learn more about them.

13.) A Fex
Score = 11
Comments: Don't know much about them. So the idea interests me, but isn't as high up on the priority list.

14.) A Tranquil
Score = 7
Comments: I'd like to learn more about them too.

I couldn't think of one for "other" at the moment, so I just rated the rest from 1-14.

1.) A Human Templar
Score = 13
Comments: As someone else mentioned, it was explored enough. Plus, if we are having
a Seeker, s/he would fit the 'templar' archetype, both storywise and gameplay-wise.

2.) A Human Tevinter Magister
Score = 2
Comments: That would be quite interesting. While proving that not all
tevinter mages are evil, he could still provide the free mage perspective of
the conflict. <3

3.) A Human Chasind
Score = 6
Comments: It depends entirely on the character's background, so giving
an average rate. <3

4.) A Human Orlesian Noble
Score = 8
Comments: Also depends on the character's background, so giving
an average rate.

5.) An Elven or Human Seeker
Score = 1
Comments: The number 1 character I want to see as a companion, especially
if it's Cassandra. <3

6.) An Elven or Human Somniari (or "Dreamer")
Score = 3
Comments: Another one of my favorites, an elven somniari could provide
the perspective of a potentially dangerous free mage. Also,
could have access to healing spells. <3

7.) An Elven or Human Mage Loyalist (supports Chantry control of mages)
Score = 9
Comments: I always tend to play this archetype in my main
playthroughs, so a bit redundant in my games. :) Been explored a lot
too.

8.) A Kossith Tal Vashoth / Kadan Fe Mercenary
Score = 5
Comments: I miss having a kossith companion and I like
their new DA2 visual, so bring them! Romanceable! <3

9.) A Dwarven Lyrium Smuggling Boss (Male)
Score = 4
Comments: I like this, I think we could use an even more cunning
(and non-comic relief) dwarf in the party.

10.) A Dwarven Silent Sister (Female)
Score = 10
Comments: They would have to be creative with an unable to speak
character, with the emphasis on VO, but not impossible either.

11.) A Desire Demon
Score = 11
Comments: Given the lore we know so far, I don't believe in a "nice"
enough demon to be in my party. So, the writers would have to be really creative
to add that.

12.) A Fog Warrior
Score = 7
Comments: As presented by Fenris, not that interesting or unique. But depends
on the background.

13.) A Fex
Score = 12
Comments: While templars are just "too" known, fex on the contrary are almost
completely unknown to be a companion. Leave them to DA4!

14.) A Tranquil
Score = 14
Comments: A 100% emotion-less character just wouldnt really work in my opinion.
Unless they add a twist like it's a "experimental" tranquil, that's in the process
of being cured or somehting. Oh, non-romanceable! :P

1.) A Human Templar <3
Score = 1
Comments: I know a lot of people feel like a Templar would be overkill- but if you think about it, we've never actually had a REAL Templar companion. I think this is a great idea, especially having read Asunder- especially an ex-templar who is having issues with Lyrium withdrawl and/or second thoughts about mage hate. *coughcullencough* The Templars after Kirkwall are not the same Templars we've been dealing with this whole time, and to see how they are handling the *spoiler issues* that came up in Asunder could be a great plot.

2.) A Human Tevinter Magister <3
Score =  5
Comments: I think the concept is really cool- and wouldn't mind seeing one, but not if they are going to be exactly like what we've already seen. But I'd love to see a Mage who has been brought up being told that magic is a gift and being praised for having it by everyone around him. Would be an interesting mix with a circle mage or even an apostate. It'd be interesting to see someone who wasn't told to be ashamed of having magic.

3.) A Human Chasind
Score =7
Comments: Really neat concept. Kind of remind me of the wildings in GoT though- not sure how primitive I want my companions to be. :)

4.) A Human Orlesian Noble
Score =6
Comments: Oh, you know. Maybe if he or she wasn't a total douche bag. :) Someone having to rough it after being born to a life of privilege could be funny if written well.

5.) An Elven or Human Seeker
Score =4
Comments: I'm ambivalent but it's ranked high because it's possibly the only one I feel really strongly that we're getting anyway.

6.) An Elven or Human Somniari (or "Dreamer")
Score =11
Comments: Not if he or she is like Fenryiel. I'm tired of weak mages who get themselves into trouble.

7.) An Elven or Human Mage Loyalist (supports Chantry control of mages)
Score =2
Comments: I'd like to see this, for sure. I know Wynne was, but I would be interested in seeing someone youngers take on it- an educated take, anyway, not a "I'm a horrible evil person who should become tranquil! AHHHH"  like that one lady in the Ferelden Circle.

8.) A Kossith Tal Vashoth / Kadan Fe Mercenary
Score =3
Comments: Marrass, or similar would be awesome.

9.) A Dwarven Lyrium Smuggling Boss (Male)
Score =10
Comments: I could take or leave Dwarfs unless they are mostly there for comic relief, so if that's the case, bring them on. Varric and Oghren were brilliant. I don't want an annoying one please.

10.) A Dwarven Silent Sister (Female)
Score =14
Comments: Admittedly, I have no idea what this is. lol.

11.) A Desire Demon
Score = 15
Comments: Not unless it's a half-dressed hunk of burning love that doesn't float.

12.) A Fog Warrior
Score =12
Comments:Completely depends on their temperment/looks/etc. Since we've never seen one, it's hard to gage.

13.) A Fex
Score = 13
Comments: No. Keep lizard people in Bethesda  games.

14.) A Tranquil <3
Score = 9
Comments: An ex-tranquil would be very very interesting.

Seriously though, I presented each idea as neutrally as possible because I'm truly interested in what other people would like to see. I'd be happy to make some edits if anyone feels excluded.

Everyone has really interesting and unexpected reasons for wanting the party member types that they do. I'm already pretty surprised by the ones that you guys don't want, and really surprised that there haven't been more write-ins (no Nathaniel? No Charade? No Teagan? - wow!) Maybe I'll share my scores much later so no one feels I'm trying to lead the discussion, but reading them so far is seriously interesting!

Another interesting thread,brushyourteeth:)
I will have to agree with those who said as long as my travelling companions are well-written,I am content.
Their class/origins could,but not necessarily should pigeonhole these guys - our past influences us,but should not define us immutably and completely.

As far as the Desire Dem....um,Spirit is concerned,I throw my lot in with Maria C.,but you know that from the Desire Demon Companion thread:)
On top of all that,it would be great to have a Tranquil - they do not dream,have no magic or emotion,and as such,are not very attractive to demons. Imagine the banter between those two:D
Furthermore,it would be of immense interest to me to see the world with the eyes of a Tranquil whose perception is not influenced,for better or for worse,by emotion.
We already had a quasi-templar in Alistair,but I can see how people would like to see a seemingly "torn between duty and morality" type of Templar in DA3-so bring him on.
So, a demon and a tranquil banter.Banter between a tranquil and a moralizing templar  Oooooo,shiny:D
Then a blood-mage or sarabaas....OMG.A Kossith - hell yeah:)Definitely more elves....someone like Anaerin,maybe? And a dwarf like Varric.Maybe Varric?:)

So,yes,fresh,interesting,well-written companions.I loved my merry band of misfits and my team snark in DA.

But I would also love to travel with Kadan again. Or Shale.Or That Sarcastic Bastard in my avatar.Or Varric.
As far as "old" NPCs are concerned,some of them could be optional companions.Actually,I would welcome the idea if some companions were mutually exclusive,like Alistair / Loghain in DAO. Some of them could be exclusive content,based on your imports. Not all of them.Some.

I like the topic a great deal,brushyourteeth,but I suppose it is easier for me to think of desired future companions in terms of their personality,and not their class / background,however character-defining that may be.

So,gimme...I dunno,Garrett The Thief,Raistlin,Boromir,Shale / HK47,Varric,Loghain,Gianna Parasini,Matriarch Aethyta,
JC Denton, Aeon Flux , V (from V for Vendetta),Ash from Mamoru Oshii`s Avalon...countless examples out there. Really hard to choose:P

MC, some how I don't think this thread was created with the purpose of bashing Desire Demons. Hell, I wouldn't mind one as a companion so long as they keep her naked, which Bioware probably wouldn't do if she's in our party. However, if I had to choose between a Desire Demon and Cullen, I'd pick Cullen everytime simply because I've been after him as a companion/LI for two games and I want to see his story arc resolved... And he's hot.

*Sits back and eagerly awaits for MC to unleash a torrent of abuse.*
