Request: Autolinking in posts.
Current function
Links that exist in posts in the forum system here remain as plain text. If I type out www.bioware.com, nobody can click it as a link. Since I don't usually use the full editor, there isn't an easy way to turn text into a link. I've gotten into the habit of wrappings links in URL tags, but for most people, they aren't aware of that feature, or don't care to type it out.
Desired function
Turn links present in posts into hyperlinks automagically, using the link location as the display text as well as the link location.
It's not something huge, but it improves usability since people don't have to copy/paste links into their browser address. Nor is it truly important, since people can work around it.

Might be interesting ideas after they get some of these bugs outta the site.

I think they don't do this because it makes them more directly and actively responsible for whatever happens when someone clicks on that link. If it's just text that some random posted, it has to be a more 'deliberate', 'thought out' act to copy, paste into address bar, and then go. If they provide direct and inviting access to any link anyone was to post, they'd be somewhat more to blame for it.
Then again, I'm just a bystander, just drawing a conclusion from my common sense, don't mind me.
But I've noticed. The settings of the website seem to be deliberately made to 'keep it clean'. They seem to be trying to minimise the amount of space and bandwidth wasted on spam/abuse/etc. It's all very sterile, some to the point where it's rigid, but to keep things out before they get in, it feels like that's the approach they're taking.
So I'm not entirely sure they'd do this, as it would allow quicker, easier and more inviting access to potentially dangerous links.

@Somehing: it is possible that is the basic idea but this site is far less sterile than BioBoards (and BioBoards itself used to not even allow hotlinking third-party fora, precisely for this reason). If this is indeed the case, the site is just very inconsistent in what is allowed and what isn't.

Hmm, you said they "used to" not allow hotlinking, does that mean they enabled it? If so, maybe they're taking a more liberal approach in general now?
If that's not the case you're probably right and it's just inconsistent.

No, it was always possible, they just moderated it more strictly.
