Timed Missions: Which missions actually count towards the three-mission-limit?

This had been a bit unclear for a while and a search of the forum didn't turn up anything helpful, so the question is in the title - exactly what does it mean when a timed mission is failed if one does 'three missions' beforehand?

Does it mean just three things in the journal, including all the fed-ex/bring us MacGuffin quests? Does it just mean Priority and N7 missions? Does it include missions like the Hanar/Kasumi thing, that don't belong in either mentioned group?

the N7s do for sure, Grissom Adacemy, and the Turian Platoons are the only ones I know for sure have a time limit on doing them.

The Hanar one has to be done before the Citidel attack or else it won't be available anymore same with the Power grid mission, Liara's Father, and the Finding out what happened to the mans son on Benning.

I could be wrong, but I THINK the timed missions are counted as those as take you off the Normandy AND the Citadel.

So you could do the Fed-Ex Missions (Scan planets, return items to person on Citadel) without counting, but one trip planetside (say, Tuchanka) WILL count.

Personally I don't like the times missions I went to go do the mission with Grunt and the Rachni and lost the N7 Fighter base mission cause I did Sur;kesh then Grissom academy first.

Turian Platoon doesn't have a time limit, it lasts as long as the Rachni one does.

Tuchanka: Bomb on the other hand, does have a time limit. It will expire after Citadel II.

Sorry I always look at the platoon and bomb one as one mission I forget others don't.

Tuchanka bomb is the timed one

I think I should have been clearer - when I say timed missions, I mean any mission that is *specifically* timed i.e. there is an absolute figure somewhre in the game's guts that says 'you must do no more than two missions before this one is locked out'. I didn't mean missions which aren't available after Citadel II or whatever, as they're self-evident.

Or, to put it simply, I have Grissom Academy coming up and I want to know if I can do the fed-ex quests that pile up rapidly post-Palaven without it expiring.

As far as I know, you can delay the fed-ex quests for however long as you like. Of course, I tend to do those as early as possible. It has no effect on mission availability. Also, I don't think a trip to the Citadel counts.

The only missions of which I'm certain that they're timed are Grissom Academy and the bomb on Tuchanka. It could be that no other missions are timed or that there are more out there and I don't notice because of the way I play the game.

I thought that the Grissom limit was actual combat missions, not running around on the Citadel or scanning clusters. I haven't extensively tested it, but as I tend to visit the Citadel frequently, and do the assignments there in waves, it hasn't seemed to affect me. I haven't had Grissom ever expire, but I have only done two other combat missions before going there.

I don't think visiting or leaving the Citadel actually has any bearing on any of the timers in the game, except for when there is a mission there. In this way the game is probably like ME2 where mission timing only depended on missions that gave you the Mission Complete screen, and where hub world visits and small side quests didn't count.

Yeah its 2-3 combat missions if you don't do it you got to fight Jack later on as a Phantom.

As for actually times missions I don't remember ME3 having any with a set time like you had me ME2

No it won't. Bomb will expire after 3 missions AFTER you finish Turian Platoon. That means you can do Platoon very late, like for example after Rannoch, and then the Bomb mission. Bomb mission depends only on finishing Platoon mission, not on Citadel II

The Prima guide distinguishes between 'Side Missions', 'N7 Missions', and 'Hub Missions'. Side Missions, in this case, are Tuchanka Bomb, Grissom, Gellix and Lesuss, and as a group they're described as being subject to a time limit of three missions.

Functionally, they seem to work exactly how the timing mechanic worked at the end of ME2. The only problem is that I've no idea if ME3 uses the same concept for categorising missions.

That's the point - I don't actually know what constitutes a 'mission' insofar as the time limit. There's a bunch of fed-ex quests that you get that pay really well - exactly what I need while I'm trying to get the BW early. But if turning in the various bits of junk counts as accomplishing missions then I'll lose access to the mission, and I can't be bothered to play through an hour just to see if that is the case.

And...

I had no idea what you meant by 'Specialist Trainer' until I repeated it out loud.... 'Specialist *Traynor*', you mean? :P

A mission is any point in the game where you are asked to pick a squad and assign their weapons/powers.

Quests do not matter. Missions do.
