Kaidan. His romance arc is mature, interesting and realistically handled.
He doesn't need someone to solve his problems or give him purpose. He can do that for himself. He's strong and has a solid sense of self. He embodies passion, integrity, ambition, independence and honesty, and admires those traits in others.
Kaidan would have been perfectly happy/successful in his own right, had Shepard not come along. Shepard enhanced his life . She/he did not define it.
Kaidan gives more than he takes.
